Crystal Palace 0-2 Liverpool: In game and Post Match discussion
      Aug 20, 2018 07:00:13 pm
      Welcome

After an eight-day wait, the Reds are back in Premier League action tonight - with Crystal Palace the opposition for their second game of the season.

      Line-up:

      Selhurst Park

      Team comparison:

      Klopp's pre-match presser:

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QyyUXsRRFA

Liverpool: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson, Milner, Wijnaldum, Keita, Mane, Salah, Firmino.

Substitutes: Mignolet, Henderson, Sturridge, Moreno, Lallana, Shaqiri, Matip.

Crystal Palace: Hennessey, Wan-Bissaka, van Aanholt, Sakho, Tomkins, Schlupp, Townsend, Milivojevic, McArthur, Zaha, Benteke

Substitutes: Meyer, Sorloth, Kelly, Ayew, Kouyate, Ward, Guaita

      News:

Liverpool hope to have Joel Matip available in the matchday squad at Selhurst Park after the defender returned to training and came through an inter-squad match at Melwood on Wednesday.

Dejan Lovren remains unavailable, however, due to a pelvis issue.

Palace boss Roy Hodgson reported on Friday that he has a fully-fit squad to choose from against the Reds, having kicked off the campaign with a 2-0 win at Fulham.

Mamadou Sakho and Christian Benteke are expected to face their former team.

Palace will come at us, not afraid to attack so we can exploit the space. This will be vital, if we hit them on the counter and take our chances we should be OK. We will still dominate possession but they do have some ability going forward. Again Robbo could be the MAN...left back, wing back is such an important position and getting Robbo was a master stroke.

1-3...1-4...if we put our chances away.

Going to be very tough getting into this side this season.

Struggle to remember when we last had this much strength in depth.

      Tactical apparently.

Klopp wants to ease him in to the squad similar to Ox last season.

Worked well for Ox before his injury.

      On Fabinho:

Klopp:"There are normal squad decisions you have to make week in, week out and that's what I did. [There is no problem with Fabinho], nothing, he is here," he said.

Clearly not ready and fully up to speed with the tactics yet. It'll take some time for him to settle, just like Robertson and Ox did. He'll come good.

No issue with Fabinho. There is a shed load of football this season. Fabinho needs to start well.Good handling by the Boss.

I may be wrong but was Ox ever omitted from the match day squad, I’m not sure he was?

I fully understand why Klopp has opted for the same side, no player deserves to be dropped but unusual that Moreno is in there instead of Fab.

What about Clyne, any news on him?

      And Robbo most importantly.

No point playing him and seeing him struggle while he doesn't have the tools/understanding to deploy. As others have said, it'll be a long season so while we can (with the depth we have) we may as well continue cooking him until he's fully fresh baked. Speaks volumes regarding Klopp's insistence of preparation and readiness.

Funny despite a lot of positivity before the games those pangs of doubt always surface just before kick off when stats start flying about.
Our quality will see us through tonight and our bench can if necessary win the game

We never had the same amount of options last season as we have right now. No point having both Henderson and Fabinho on the bench when they're similar in terms of position. Henderson is rightly on the bench over Fabinho at the moment. We also have Matip coming back and now a CB substitute on the bench compared to last week's bench.

With regards to Clyne, last week we had no other CB on the bench, so if there was an issue with Trent, Gomez wouldn't have been able to move to RB (unless we played Fabinho as a CB or RB), so we needed Clyne. If we have an issue at CB or RB today, Matip can come and Gomez can move to RB or Matip can replace Gomez.

Moreno as a genuine LB picked over Clyne who can play there, but doesn't have a left foot and would cause issues in terms of width.

(At least that's how I see it, just different options / positions to cover in terms of players on the bench. Moreno and Matip as LB and CB over another DM because we have one with Henderson.)

Good to see Matip on the bench. Fabinho I guess is still not up to speed. Migs rather than Karius is an interesting one.

Happy with the first 11, and the bench is pretty decent. Fancy us to take the 3 points but it'll probably be quite tight.

Fingers crossed the referee doesn't get involved.

Expecting a good atmosphere from the home fans which hopefully we can manage to stifle.  I think the reason this game still gives people the heebiejeebies is that effing game from 13/14.
