Liverpool to appoint another goalkeeping coach
      Sep 13, 2018 04:20:22 pm
"Liverpool are planning to appoint another goalkeeping coach to Jürgen Klopp’s backroom staff.

Jack Robinson, who has previously worked at Manchester United and is currently the National Goalkeeper Coach at the Football Association, has been given the chance to work alongside John Achterberg with Liverpool’s first team.

Achterberg is overseeing the potential appointment, seeking assistance as he works with up to five keepers a day at the club’s training complex.

While Achterberg continues to focus working with the senior keepers Alisson Becker and Simon Mignolet – and will remain a visual matchday presence in the ‘dug-out’ - the new appointment would help the highly-rated young deputies such as teenagers Kamil Grabara and Caoimhin Kelleher.

Previously, Robinson worked at Old Trafford for seven years, where he was a colleague of of Eric Steele and Frans Hoek coaching keepers of the calibre of Edwin van der Saar and David de Gea.

More recently, Robinson was part of the England Under 17s backroom staff that won the World Cup in their age group last season.
Klopp has been tweaking his backroom team every season at Anfield, making several changes in the coaching and sports science department.

Last summer he re-appointed former first-team coach Pep Lijnders and added specialist throw-in coach, Thomas Gronnemark, on a part-time basis."

Very interesting, I wonder if this is a sign that Alisson has requested a different coach but for political reasons they are making it look like its just to "help" Achterburg.

       :lmao:

If there are 5 goalies to work with then it makes perfect sense to bring an additional coach to help out.

Do you really think that Achterburg doesn't already have assistant coaches though? Perhaps that is the reason why he has never improved a goalkeeper, he's spread too thin.

This decision obviously long overdue. Perhaps should have been made a couple of seasons ago.

Maybe he does, maybe he doesn't. I don't know nor do i remember hearing about him having other coaches.

However, the article you quoted said "While Achterberg continues to focus working with the senior keepers Alisson Becker and Simon Mignolet.....the new appointment would help the highly-rated young deputies such as teenagers Kamil Grabara and Caoimhin Kelleher." so how do you read that and make the leap that maybe Alisson has requested a different coach?

Is it different now because we are high enough on Grabara and Kelleher that we want them to train with the 1st team? because otherwise wouldn't they train with the U23s who i imagine have a GK coach themselves?

We seem to buy keepers who have huge reputations or potential, and the seem to go backwards, and end up an embarrassment. Perhaps Klopp is scared the same will happen to Alison 😳

Just reading between lines, perhaps seeing what I want to see. Even if it is only as the article says, an assistant to ease the work load, then that's a good thing.

And Real Madrid would not have beaten us in last seasons final. The appointment is not before time.

This new coach isn’t going to be working with Alisson or Migs, primarily he’s coming in as a coach for the 2 youngsters.
Klopp has made it abundantly clear that he rates Achterberg, so any conspiracy theories about Alisson demanding it and whatever else is just far fetched. After Alisson’s blunder vs Leicester and the way Klopp wasn’t impressed with the chip vs Brighton, right now I don’t think he’s in any position to be demanding or questioning which coaches he does or does not work with.

Just be glad we are adding what seems to be a considerably good coach to our ranks.

      Quite agree.

At least the guy has a CV  not just Tranmere Rovers like Achterberg.

I’ll happily accept John as the manager of goalkeeping coaches rather than being the goalkeeping coach himself. Manage the coaches and leave the coaching to others.

I don't really see what the guy has on his CV has to do with anything.
Plenty of excellent coaches have pretty crappy playing CV's.
      Including Klopp ;)
