I don't understand the Gomez decision, but perhaps he picked up a knock in training or he's getting leggy and can't make it to league cup.

Surprised on Matip in for Gomez, glad to see Shaqiri starting and with games coming up can see why he's rested Milner.

Looking forward to seeing what Shaqiri can do in that attacking mid position. If we have 4 at the front interchanging positons Southampton are gonna have vertigo by games end.

I'm interested to see if Shaqiri does the mad chase after the ball when he starts a game - certainly does it as a sub.

Big test for him today.  I know there's no such thing as your first 14 players - but he probably needs to be in that group if he's going to be with us beyond a season IMO.

Shaqiri needs to show that he deserves a place in the starting XI.
