I'm sure if Sturridge put the ball in the open net we would have won.

Hopefully it's a learning experience for us, this loss. 5-0 win on Saturday, yes please.

So in what is TAA better?  Faster, more precise, better crosses, better tackling? Or does mean younger = better for you? I don't see it, but of course in my comparison I do consider that Clyne does not have a regular game rhythm, that's huge. But his potential looks as good as TAA's.

Trent is faster, a more accurate passer and forward thinking player than Clyne even at his peak. Defensively i would give Clyne a slight nod  but considering 8 year age difference and the 275 more games he has appeared in that would be expected.

Clyne is a good fb but for what the way this team plays TAA is head and shoulders above him.

Shaqiri. Our best player by some way. Thought he had an excellent game. I wasn't that bothered when we signed shaqiri to be honest because I'd have preferred to have fekir who plays in a slightly different position, but I've come to realise shaqiri will be a big player for us this season and will be very useful.

Really wondering if Jürgen can integrate him into our first team, maybe this?

      Alisson
      TAA Gomez VVD Robbo
      Hendo Milner
      Shaq
      Salah Mane Bobby

In that case Shaq would be some hybrid: very offensive midfielder and second row striker.

Not terribly concerned with the result.  We have bigger, more important games ahead.

      A few takeaways:

Shaqiri looks boss, and will be a big player for us!  His passing was great and he worked his socks off.

On another day, Studge would have had a hat trick.  He scores that open goal 99x out of 100.  It was a freak miss that rarely happens to him.  The shot off the crossbar was a beauty and he was unlucky not to score.  If he stays fit then he will score a lot of goals this season.

Keita showed flashes of brilliance.  A bit better end product and a bit more consistency and he will tear teams apart.

Nice to see Clyne back after his injury.  He keeps things simple and always does his job.

I can see why Klopp has said it will take time for Fabinho -- he didn't look comfortable with the pace of the game.  A bit too pedestrian.  The quality is apparent, but he needs to sharpen up.

      Moreno was sh*te.

Lovren did nothing to suggest he will displace Gomez any time soon.

Win on Saturday and nobody will remember today's game.

I am starting to wonder why Klopp didn't go for a more rounded midfielder in someone like Rabiot (final year of contract), wouldn't that be far easier to embed than a specialist DM (Lucas with legs) ?

Agree with most of that but Trent is not quicker than Clyne.

Does that make Gomez the best defender of the world? :)

F**k the league cup it's a pointless load of w*nk I'm delighted we're out of it so we can concentrate on proper competitions.

I'm only annoyed we lost at home to those chav cu*ts would rather a league one side had beat us over that shower.

Would have like to progress in the League Cup give the fringe players game time, keep the game sharp, but did not think that we would beat Chelsea to night...
Would have been nice, but come the weekend the game is ours

Rabiot was PSG most consistent player against us.

Not for me mate. The team would lack too much balance.

It might work against the bottom half teams at Anfield possibly, but I certainly wouldn't be turning up at Chelsea with that line up that's for sure.

Shaqiri will still get plenty of minutes because it's important that we keep our front three fresh throughout the season, and it's so good that we have a fourth player to come in who looks every bit as good as them to be honest.

He's impressed me shaqiri. I was worried about his attitude and his work rate but he's turned up here looking like he has something to prove. The klopp effect.

So you must have been annoyed we only fielded our B team then? Klopp clearly did not care to much about this match and I imagine he was fairly surprised that Chelsea rocked up with most of their A team. I fancy us to beat them on Saturday, hopefully we can control Hazard somehow because that boy is on fire right now.

Yep, I was, and Ive mentioned it above.

Regardless of what team we played tonight or who the opposition was, I'll never be 'delighted' at seeing Liverpool exit a cup competition nor would I say 'F**k the league cup'.

Some of my best memories supporting Liverpool have been in Cardiff or at Wembley winning this cup competition that other reds are saying 'F**k it'. If we had got to Wembley again this season then I'd have been down there again, too.

If you don't care for this competition then don't watch us play in it or comment on it then. Some of us do care.

I understand it's not as important as the league but I hate for us to lose anytime. While there's a drop in quality, thought our second XI was pretty competitive and would have liked to see some of these boys get more opportunities in this competition. When we talk about the honors the club has won, we don't leave out the League Cup.

My best takeaway going forward, aside form overall squad depth, is that Naby Keita can be a beast for us in midfield.

      Revenge coming in three days.

It just doesn't make sense to me. Even if the league and Europe are our priority it doesn't mean we should just rubbish off other competitions.

I always see reds say 'it doesn't matter, let's just focus on the league'.  Well what if we go to Chelsea on Saturday and get beat? What then? Out of a cup competition and probably drop down to third in the league. It wouldn't be a good week would it.

This early in a season I don't think we had to throw a game to focus on other competitions. I think we could have played a stronger side. If we had stayed in this competition for longer then we have more options and depending how the season pans out we could throw it at a later time if we had too.

Poor result and a poor performance tonight. I'll never be happy about that and I'll never understand why any red would be.

If somebody said to me you'll get knocked out in the league cup straight away but it means you'll win the league then obviously I would take it. But we haven't won the league for 30 years and participating in the league cup isn't the reason.
