Right now I wouldn’t start Shaq in the middle in a game like this.

Personally I’d go Gini, Henderson and Keita for this one and sit Milner down. Despite the miles he covers his recovery has looked slow in recent weeks and he’s given away silly fouls.

After the break Fab starts coming into that equation plus Lallana and we can move to 3 from 6 which is a much healthier position.

If he starts the usual middle/front  [Gini, Milly, Hendo, Mane, Bob, Mo] reckon we 'might' struggle. You never can be sure though, Jürgen has a knack of getting lads up for the big games - but can only go on recent form.

I'd bring in Studge and Shaq, and leave Hendo and Bob on the bench.  Maybe also bring in Clyne for Trent.

The lads looked drained against Napoli, so hope Jürgen freshens things up. Not ideal that the next game is Shitty given our and their form, but don't see that putting the same set of lads out again is going to give a different result.
Plus Studge and Shaq have done well, and possibly deserve to be starting on merit/form anyway.

Problem with Studge, as well he has been playing, if you put him in you fundamentally lose the ability to press. Our wins against City have been built on forcing mistakes when they are in possession in their final third and then taking advantage. If Studge would genuinely press the ball he'd be in the side no brainier for me but I don't think he'll ever play that way because he's lost trust in his body. Bobby is the trigger for our entire pressing game so he has to play.

Agree . Studge should have played Wednesday or at least more minutes when our style of play was much more suited to what he gives. However if things don't go as planned today he should be given more minutes to make an impact as should Lallana who can also something different . Our bench needs to have options who can change the game which is why Moreno should be no where near it . Lallana, Keita,Studge and Shaq all viable options

The only question is the midfield and right now I think we're at our best with Gini at holding mid, which means Milly and Keita ahead of him.

Salah to start because his pace is critical to our plans and the defence picks itself.

Any result wouldn't shock me but i think we can still be confident heading in to this one. The crowd will play it's part and the boys should surely be up for this one.

      2-0 win to the lads.

I really didn't think about putting Shaqiri in as an attacking midfielder in this game but it does make sense. Last season we had the OX with his energy and willing runs forward so Shaqiri would go a long way in getting something similar today.

Ox after months of settling in compared to Shaqiri who has one (?) start and was pulled at half-time?

I’d be shocked and worried if he started as a CAM.

I’m sorry but Shaqiri doesn’t have the discipline to play in midfield, and certainly not against City. If Keita isn’t fit then as much as it pains me to say it we’ve got to go with Gini, Milner and Henderson in there.

Think we’ve just gotta hope the occasion brings s bit more energy, form and finishing to our game.
As we all know, when we’re on it, nobody can live with us. Just unfortunate we are not in the best of form at the mo.
I’ve predicted 2-1 but st the same time extremely worried we’ll be over fun.
Think it has to be Gini, Millie snd Keita in midfield. Shawn is not positionally disciplined enough for this one, Hend could be great or sh*te, there doesn’t seem to be any consistency in his game so a bit worried there.
If Bob is having a mare, perhaps put Shaqu on, and Stu for Mo if he’s also off form still, but let’s nit wait till
80 + mins. Give them 25-30 mins to get into the game.
Worried, but trust the lads and Jürgen to bring home the bacon 😊

Think we've got this one in the bag, if they're not up for this after losing the perfect start to the season to the Chavs and slipping up against Napoli in the CL then we've got more on our plate than we thought, I'm going for 3-1 to the Reds and fingers crossed for Mo to start firing on all cylinders!
Off to bed now as its 8-45pm and K.O in just under 5 hours at 1-30am.

The top 3/4 are now limbering up for the season. Spurs made an iffy start but now, thanks to the odd dive, are up to speed. Chelsea's new manager has hit the ground running, ditto Arsenal's new manager. City are probably the best in the League. Despite our great start a number of issues need resolving. Midfield, the front 3 need to take the chances. The expectations on Mo are massive and careful handling is needed.

The midfield is a bit over maned. Fabinho might wonder when he's going to get a run in the side. Klopp is still working on his best midfield line up. How to get the best out of Shaqiri. His work rate seems to be in question. Did the squad need another top striker rather than 2 very pricey midfielders, one a holding player. Today will not resolve all the issues Klopp faces. A win today will go a long way but regardless, I think City will still be the best in this League.

That wouldn't be a great surprise. Might be a smart move. What if Trent gets roasted. It would put his development back a bit. I'd be happy to see Trent start but Klopp might feel taking him out just for this one isn't such a bad idea.

Ok regarding Trent but why split a central defensive partnership that has been outstanding? If Trent is out it has to be Clyne in

      NB: Team no longer available

We can't lose this game, if we win. It will be brilliant. But at least a draw because we will be all three teams with 20 points.

Thats  how I'd go as well Clint.

Not in work until later so am going to be able to see this one and looking forward to it.

I know, putting Lovren back in goes against the grain a bit. Gomez has been outstanding and is developing a solid partnership with Van the man. Klopp must be seriously worried about Sterling.

Gomez has the pace, probably the quickest defender in the league. Is Klopp putting him at right back to keep up with Sterling. Sterling as Gerrard said has great body strength for a winger. Solid as a rock - we undersold him.

May be Klopp also think playing Shaq as an attacking right sided wing back might mean whoever plays right back might not get the backup from Shaq defensively. Could be a different line up than we expect.

How bold or brave is Klopp going to be today. Take a chance and put Shaq in there. Shaq,Keita and Henderson in midfield. Very offensive. Take a brave manager to set out to go very high against City.

I'd go for it but obviously we don't have the pressure Klopp has. But I would go for it.
