Liverpool 4-1 Cardiff City: In game and Post Match discussion
      Oct 27, 2018 01:59:42 pm

      Anfield at 3pm, stunning

Starting XI: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Lovren, Van Dijk, Moreno, Fabinho, Wijnaldum, Lallana, Mane, Salah, Firmino.

Subs: Mignolet, Matip, Gomez, Robertson, Milner, Shaqiri, Sturridge.

Adam Lallana starts as Liverpool make three changes for the Premier League clash with Cardiff City at Anfield.

The No.20 comes into the XI in place of Xherdan Shaqiri, while Dejan Lovren and Alberto Moreno replace Joe Gomez and Andy Robertson in the back four.

Virgil van Dijk captains the Reds.

Not overly thrilled with the changes but should be more than enough to win.

Some bold moves from Klopp but I think we will have enough nonetheless. I predicted 3-0 after changing from 3-1.

If we don’t win today we don’t deserve to be in the title race - simple.

      Let’s do this

Just a little surprised Shaqiri isn't starting as you would assume they would park the bus. However, it's a very very very  very strong team, and a team that should be winning regardless of whether Shaqiri and Gomez are playing or not.

Long season ahead - got to keep Players fresh , think the changes are sensible , shouldn’t make too much of a difference - the players have to keep sharpness in case of injuries

Agree it looks a bit odd. Also odd to have three defenders on the bench in Gomez, Robbo and Matip, especially as Gomez can play all across the back. No more two should be required. We did this some last season in the run-in, but that is when were down to a minimum of first team squad players. I guess in scenarios, Trent could move into midfield if we  picked up a couple of injuries during the match (unlikely of course, but this is part of what determines manager's choosing of their seven).

Hoping to see Trent enjoying some freedom and regaining some form today. Also hoping Fabinho continues from a strong performance midweek.

Clint still smashing the game threads I see :D  I'm looking forward to this game. I'm slightly surprised we didn't give Shaqiri a start but we shouldn't run into many problems today.

Not particularly happy with Moreno and Lallana coming in for Robbo and Shaqiri.

Lovren and Moreno in the same line up worries me enough for a game that could be made harder than it should be. Generally not keen on defensive rotation when it’s not really necessary, it’s arguably the most important area on the pitch where you need consistency and rhythm. Our back 4 of Trent, Gomez, VVD and Robbo is the best we’ve had for a long time and I see no reason why, for the 3rd league game running, it’s been broken up.

      Salah hat trick.

A very attacking team, with lots of pace down the flanks and (hopefully) a solid centre.

Bring Shaqiri on around 60 to exploit tiring legs?

Clean sheet under threat with Moreno in, even a dinosaur like Warnock will see him as the weak link, went for 3-0, less sure now.

Terrible. I'm not concerned about today, think we can still win... but there's still another 7 days until arsenal. Our first 11 will get rusty and less connected.

Azpillicueta has managed it for over 2 seasons now so I don’t buy that for a second.

Would've gone with Shaqiri but Klopp wants Lallana back to full fitness and it makes sense to do that in this type of home game. Shaq is unlucky to miss out but he has shown enough to be in contention week in week out.

Want to see Gomez in there to build on his partnership with Van Dijk but I'd be very surprised if Cardiff came away with anything

Don't get why people are so surprised by the changes. A week rest after this game has very little to do with the fitness for this game.

The international break might be boring, but the majority of our players do play quite a few minutes for their countries.

Shaqiri played almost 4 full games in the last 12 days and bar 10 minutes in the CL, so did Robertson.

Gomez is probably being rested just to make sure Lovren gets enough game time in case he needs to step in when Van Dijk / Gomez get injured.

All in all a very decent line-up and I think a lot of people will be happy to see the Fabinho / Wijnaldum combo in midfield again. Will be interesting to see whether we line-up as a 4-3-3 with either Fabinho / Wijnaldum as the lone #6 or the 4-2-3-1 in mid week with Lallana being the link-up player.
