I honestly can't name anyone from the 99s till today because we improved lots of them: Alonso, Torres, Suarez, Reina, Johnson, Mascherano, etc

Even Benitez and Klopp have improved here!

They were good players but we improved them to be World Class here or somewhere else!

We are World class with a stunning culture/religion and I'm not being biased!

JesĂşs JoaquĂn FernĂĄndez SĂĄenz de la Torre

That is a pretty big name, 35 characters.
I increased the font size to make it even bigger.

Perhaps thats the longest name, not the biggest

The one that we signed and made me go ‘wow I can’t believe we got him’ was actually Fernando Morientes. Was so excited when we signed him and he turned out to be bang average for us :D

Besides him, I’d say Torres, his name had been around for absolutely ages and was a real statement which was then backed up with immediate performances.

If you’re going Babbel then I guess by rights we should go Christian Ziege as well.......Euro 96 winner and WC runner up.

Yeah but I trump that with Karl Heinz Riedle. was proper buzzing on a beach in Crete when I read we signed him.

      Great player.

A little on the downside when we got him but boy he was a player in his day.

He was arguably a bigger name when we signed him than Torres was.

Good topic, not been too many real big names. Litmanen was the other good shout.

Question: What was the most desperate attempt the club has ever made at a "Marquee" signing?

      Answer:

      Robbie Keane !   ;D

( I always questioned Rafa's sanity with  that one ..... he attempted .....and succeeded)

The last signing that got me really excited was (after watching a lot of dutch football) a certain mad uruguayan f**ker

It has to be Fernando Torres. Given that he was already an established star at Atletico and one of the first names on an incredible Spain team sheet by time he signed for us. It seems between the years of 2004-2007 he had been linked with every major European club around. The Mancs thought they were getting him in 2006 yet come the summer of 2007 he signed for us. And yet it was a relatively cheap deal even back then (albeit made possible by us sending Luis Garcia the other way). More high profile names were going to follow...or so we thought. His signing was nothing but a false dawn if anything, covering up the cracks that were already starting to appear under the treacherous ownership of Hicks and Gillett.
