Pellegrini has been a bit of a dick this week.

He does know City lined up his replacement while he was still in the job doesn't he?

      Have some self respect man!

I agree, it's our form which is a concern more than the results. I can remember earlier in the season when some of us were talking about how weak the attack looked and we were laughed at, well now with a few injuries in defence we aren't getting away with scoring the 1 goal any more.
Klopp has to go back to how we played last season and take the shackles of our attack, this patient build up play nonsense has to stop as we don't have the players to execute it, especially not Bobby who lost the ball and misplaced passes all night. We have to back to quick counter attacking football, that is our strength.

The only issue with that is, in the absence of Henderson and Wijnaldum, is our midfield capable of driving performances like that? Our attack is looking impotent and I doubt that's down to the gaffer telling them to reign it in. All our problems stem from the fact we let Clyne go. It's not because Clyne was a fantastic player, but having a natural right back there rather than a 33 year old midfielder not just being played out of position, but being played in a position that requires more pace than his OAP legs can deliver is a problem, and it's not just a problem down the right flank, because of injuries to others in midfield we're moving someone out of the centre of the park who could help control the game better. The sale of Clyne has caused a cascade problem. Now that being said, I don't know why we're not playing Camacho. He's either good enough or he isn't, and if he is, he should be starting until Trent is back.

But let me ask you this. If we're not going to play Camacho, would you rather Milner in Midfield and Fabinho at Right Back rather than the other way around it is presently?

well just got back. what a disappointment. i understand we were going to drop points, but past few games have been worrying, not just the last 2. we just dont look right.

said it all along, i just hated the Clyne decision. utterly bizarre. no coincidence for me, that our last 3 game weve looked like conceding everytime the opposition comes near our box, have all been games with a midfielder at RB.

its been my worry all season long, squad just isnt deep enough. we cant cope with losing anymore than 2, at a push 3 players. difference between us and citys squad is huge.

I know not many came out of tonight with much credit, but my word what was firmino doing in dubai?! past 2 games hes been appalling, and Salah not much better!

as with Leicester, really worrying that at no point all 2nd half did i feel a goal was coming. created absolutely nothing.

its mad i feel so gutted with us top of the table in february!
but its pretty painful, that the gap could have been 7, and come wednesday itll be 0, and we'll be 2nd..............

We have increased the lead btw, and it's still in our own hands. Seems some posters here need reminding of that.

We didn't let Clyne go. He asked to quit a title race for mediocrity with a bunch of also rans. So off he went.

City's squad is better than ours, but that's not showing in the table. They're dropping points to all sorts of teams, Chelsea Newcastle Wolves, etc. We're going through the annual post-Christmas hangover we have had under Klopp. Despite that, we've lost just one league game and are still top of the league. We've got through the other hangovers before, and we'll get through this.

People were saying we had it won last week, now they're writing us off. That's the worst bit of these results, the panic meltdown and extreme reactions that accompany them. This is a 38 game marathon, there's going to be peaks and dips and curveball results thrown in everywhere between now and the end of the season. It wasn't won last week and it's not decided this week. Most of us would have been satisfied with a 3 point lead now, a couple of months ago, and certainly would have back in August.

No we haven’t, after the last round of games we finished 5 points ahead of them, after this round of games we finish it 3 points ahead of them. I’m pretty much 10000000% sure that them getting 2 points closer to us isn’t us increasing our lead. But, if you want I will get a calculator and check this just in case there is any lingering doubt.

You say all our problems stem from letting Clyne go. I can’t quite see how our forwards and lack of goals at the moment is anything to do with him going. He has 1 goals and 2 assists in 4 years and we didn’t struggle for goals last season when he didn’t play at all apart from the odd minute.

The sale of Clyne has caused a cascade problem.

That 33 year old midfielder who has provided the same amount of assists in the last 3 games from RB as Clyne managed in 4 years.

Games with Milner at RB since Trent has been injured this season -
      2-0 win vs Wolves
      4-3 win vs Palace
      1-1 draw with West Ham.

The first Palace goal Milner was caught by the pace of Zaha but only after Matip wasn’t paying attention, wasn’t in line with the defence and played Zaha onside. The red card wasn’t great but he had to take it because he was stitched up by Shaqiri’s bad pass and Bobby letting it run. But he also got an assist and we won the game.

West Ham goal today? Keita losing the ball cheaply, followed by Bobby losing the ball cheaply and then from a resulting free kick, Keita letting Antonio go free. Milner was no worse than any other player in the rest of the game, also got the assist for our goal.

Vs Leicester we had Hendo at RB and where did the goal they got come from? The left side, because Robbo gave away a cheap and needless free kick. Hendo actually had a solid game at RB

For all the goals we’ve conceded with Milly and Hendo at RB, it’s actually been the CB and LB areas that have been largely at fault. Our right side has produced more goals than if Clyne played there too.

I really don’t know how a problem can stem from binning off a payer that has previously played no part at all for the best part of 2 years. The problem hasn’t been letting Clyne go, it’s an easy excuse to make but one of our biggest problems has been the midfield and the attack. We’ve had Salah playing a different role to his record breaking season, we’ve had Bobby playing a different role to where he was so great last season and we have a jumbled midfield of purely work horses...why? Because we didn’t sign a number 10 in the summer. Blaming the departure of Clyne is the easy way out, but sooner or later, not getting a proper replacement for Coutinho was going to come back and bite us. All season, even with a fully fit squad the attack hasn’t flowed quite right and it was thanks to our rock solid defence we were hanging on for games, which if it hadn’t of been so solid, we wouldn’t be where we are now, that’s for sure.

This I completely agree with. Camacho I think needs to be given his chance, he performed well enough there vs Wolves and he’s about the age Trent was when Klopp put full trust in him. Which makes me wonder why not with Camacho. Maybe. He isn’t good enough or maybe Klopp doesn’t trust an 18yr old in a situation we are currently in and is going with what has worked in the past. But, for me I think it should have been Milly in midfield for Lallana and Camacho at the back.

I’d say how it is, Fab in midfield and Milly at RB. Firstly because the goals we’ve conceded haven’t actually been he fault of our RB situation. Secondly because I think Fab works so well with Hendo and Gini in the midfield. I think moving Fab would be a greater deficit than sticking with Milly at RB.

I’m still massively frustrated at the last couple of results, I said the other day one of the things I hate most is not winning after we’ve taken the lead, so apologies if I’ve interpreted your post the wrong way mate.

If you think it's gone from 5 points to 3, you can. I see it as increasing from 2 points before ko to 3 atm. Therefore the lead has increased.

I think most of us would have taken a 3 point lead at this point of the season. It's a year since we were losing at Swansea, couldn't hold an injury time lead against Spurs, and wondering if we were even going to finish top 4. Now there's forensic inquests instead into why we're not 5 points clear anymore.

We're in a slump now no doubt. If people want to be stupid and say 'we've increased our gap' then fair enough but the reality is we had games against Leicester and West Ham to go 7 points clear and we've been lucky to get a point both times.

Injuries and a drop in form have really hit us. Never going to be at our best with 4 first teamers out (and two of them in the run up to the game) but when we needed our big players to bail us out they were nowhere to be seen. Bobby and Salah in particular (certainly the former's form has completely fallen off a cliff since his hattrick against Arsenal) and even Mane is only playing in patches (but at least he's putting the ball in the net).

Saturday will be the first truly must win match of the season as City will be top by then. Drop points there and all the momentum will be with City and it will be a tough way back.

Oh and Pellegrini's an odd c**t ain't he.

Forgotten about the way City treated him, still not over a Champions League quarter final defeat from 6 years ago and crying about the offside tonight when Noble fouled one of ours in the lead up to their goal anyway.

Prior to our goal, I thought James Milner received the ball after it bounced off a West Ham player so no offside there.
      Is this not the case?

Mate, we don't need a miracle, we are still 3 points ahead. Ok we are going through a bad patch but we all need to stay calm. Get our injured players back and go again.
Reading some people on here you would think we were on a run of defeats and 10 points behind City, stay calm people we can still do this.

Bulk of players aren’t like they used to be. Look at Gerrard in the season we finished 2nd with BR, he was literally playing through pain near enough every game, loading himself up with injections and doing everything in his power to play. As much as Hendo has improved of late, I dont think a sore knee would have come even close to keeping our last skipper from playing at a time like this.
Klopp made a reference to some players needing to essentially man up a bit where it comes to knocks, couple of years ago I think. Maybe he needs to bring that speech out again because it seems the slightest knock is keeping the same players out time and again - Hendo, Lovren and Lallana largely. Look at Trent playing through the 90mins vs Brighton with an injury.
Some players you know will battle through the pain barrier but some you know won’t even attempt it.

I agree with your comment that the bulk of players aren't like they used to be.A big  majority of players would not last under the system when we did not have subs.I will give one example (Gerry Byrne) and leave it at that.
Back on topic ,it was bad enough dropping 2 points against the Hammers but it was the slow passing game and no progress upfield that annoyed me the most.I might upset some with this post but I want to see number 19 back at Anfield this season.

      We were Billy.

Just said in the player thread that I thought Fab in particular was slow and wasteful. He kept misplacing passes even simple ones when popping it back to Virgil or Joel were 2 yards off target and just slowed us again.

Overall we’ve been poor in two games. It happens. Time to wake up from this torpor and get back at it.

Fab may have been slow but with a pass accuracy of 91% he was not wasteful compare him to Bobby at 76%!

Fab had the highest pass accuracy last night.

One of the stats that can be misleading in my opinion. It measures completed passes.

Doesn’t - for example - pick up ALL the passes 2-3 feet wrong side of both full backs and the cbs that weren’t intercepted but slowed us down.

He’s a great player. Big, big part of why we were so pedestrian last night.

Yes and we're playing terrible from. Start of the tear and feeling pressure in Feb what be like in May. Don't improve 100% city will easily win the league. There favourites again. The fact we only won a league cup in 13 years is putting extra pressure on the club to win silverware. Definitely will not happen unless we are playing at top of our form till end of the season
