Crikey that midfield that lost 5/5 in Europe.

I assume he wants to keep it tight for an hour before bringing some creativity into the midfield.

I think that midfield trio started against the "mighty" Porto and won!! But since then, everytime we have started or finished with that midfield away from home, we have lost!

Really. 30 apperances this season. Zero goals. Zero assists.

We want creativity in midfield. He runs around alot, shouts and keeps his combover straight ....

About time he produced something. Sick to death of others being left out to get him in.

It is what it is. Jürgen is the boss. Lets get through to the next round.

Glad to see everybody is taking the team news well.

This is the winning team the manager has picked. I'm open for a leave the board wager with anyone who is a regular poster. If we go through one of the chronic moaners can go, and if we don't I will (NO Sockpuppets).

      Any takers?

Hendo isn’t the problem for me, it’s Milner. Bournemouth aside he’s been really bad since the turn of the year IMO. Has tried and tested written all over this line up, hoping to recreate last seasons CL form. Mistake going Milner instead of Fab.

Milner was excellent against Watford couple of weeks ago.

Am disappointed with the midfield. Fab is first name on the midfield team sheet for me so makes no sense to me that he should miss out.

Would have preferred Fabinho as DM, but look, we needed a strong midfield and we've got that, slightly light in terms of creation but i guess something had to be sacrificed,
My feeling is Jürgen playing it cagey, keeping things tight and controlling but hitting them on the break giving the opportunity,
If we're still deadlocked thru 70mins i think he may ramp it up a bit and go for it ie, Shaqiri,  Divock,  might even see Lallana ,
Still believe BM are more worried about us scoring and therefore will be on tenterhooks ,
Can see us going through either with a score draw or sneaky 1-2 .

      MON REDMEN!!

Stuart Holden repeatedly mispronounces SAL-ah as Sa-LAH. This American studio show is cringeworthy - and not just when we are on.

      Fully agree with this !
Really worried of no connection between middle and front 3.
Tried and tested yes, but this season this combo has been poor.

Sorry mate, it was Watford I meant.

Here we go, another person who thinks every player should be getting goals and assists, completely forgetting there are other roles in the team to play. Hendo has been in very good form.

Thought Milner would be in . Was at the home leg and thought Ribery looked good when he came on very clever. Come on boys score draw or narrow win let's not get dominated  and Just invite pressure like AM did last night

Indeed. People crying again on Twitter because one of their favourites isn't playing.

Had a feeling Jürgen would go like this. It's his go to midfield almost for big European games.

What, the 5 we lost you mean 😳

Disappointed to not have Fabinho in the starting 11
Think he is vital to our season
Selecting Hendo and Milner must be about providing cover to our full backs.
If Gini has a barn storming game then we have a damn good chance.

Not surprised but you can understand the disappointment considering our awful record away in Europe when that trio start together.

Let's hope that poor run ends tonight.

Well as disappointed as I am with the starting 11, I hope those out there can do the business and get us through. Not as confident as I was half an hour ago, but hey ho, lets get stuck in and get a score draw at least. C O Y REDS

Jürgen with the safest but also most uncreative midfield. Don't blame him though

You mean the midfield that went all the way to a European final last season.

If we get beat tonight I'm going to blame the waft of trolling that emanates from a large swathe of your posts.

I don't get why people keep banging on about the lack of creativity. Milner is right up there in our team in terms of assists and Klopp always says: "No playmaker in the world can be as good as a good counter-pressing situation." This team is set up to press and to counter.

The 5/5 lost in away games when they have started looks bad, but people need to learn to look at the situation, context and just generally the bigger picture. I don't recall all the games, but from the top of my head I'm guessing PSG, Real Madrid, City and Roma away are included? PSG at their own turf have humiliated Barcelona and Bayern in recent years. Going there and losing is no disaster, nor was it down to our starting trio in midfield. We all know what caused our collapse against Madrid and against Roma we were 2-2 and only conceded in the last minutes of the game. Context, people.

Henderson has been in good form and is still our captain. Wijnaldum is a guaranteed starter and Milner is generally rock solid. It's a huge advantage, being able to bring on Fabinho and Lallana in the later stages of the game. We don't need a win, we need a score draw. If we're down 0-1 or 1-2, all we need is a single goal. Keep things tight during the first half and the game will open up during the second. Fabinho will have more time and space on the ball to spread around some of his lovely passes and Lallana can harass the living hell out of the tired Munich players.
