Rottweiler of a defender Billy and he made the opposing defenders look like Jack Russells.
As stated Tommy was in a care home and had advanced dementia which had affected him for a number of years.
If I’m not mistaken he was born around Scotty Road and I do know after his playing days he ran a pub I think it was by Skem.
My cousin worked in the pub and she always said he was straight to the point and would not take sh*t off anyone, much like his days at Anfied.

      RIP Big Man.

Correction to the above, I always thought Tommy was born near Scotty but it was in fact a road between Anfield and Goodison.

I done the Anfield experience a few weeks ago, wanted to see the new stand etc as haven't been to Anfield for some time, in fact far too long !
Anyway, at the dinner, David Johnson was doing a talk and said on his visit with Ipswich that he nutmegged Tommy going through on goal, when walking back Tommy says to him, you do that again and I will break your fcuking back ! They don't make them like that anymore.

Great player for us and really sad to hear how he ended up.
      RIP Tommy.

I seem to remember in 77 he was on loan in the States and only came back because Thomo was injured.

Happy birthday to The Anfield Iron.

Would of been 77 today. And we all know 77 has a special meaning in the life of Tommy after his goal in the 77 European Cup final.

They broke the mould when Tommy was born, I caught the very end of his days with Liverpool but will always remember that goal in the final, although I didn’t fully appreciate what it meant for Tommy at the time,  I was only 15 and still wanking myself to death, my Ol fella loved him, loved how hard he was, and how he wouldn’t take prisoners, it wasn’t til later I read that Shanks said Tommy wasn’t born, he was quarried, always makes me smile,

      Happy Birthday Tommy, RIP YNWA

Was still 2 years away from his debut when I first stood on The Kop. He was very raw at first. He actually wore the number 10 shirt although he played alongside Yeats. At that time it was 1-11 and Tommy fooled a few early on. But he was a decent footballer and was only sent off once, for giving the ref a bollocking. Only booked 3 times. Probably nobody dared go near him.

He crunched a few in the early European cup games. Part of our great history. Legend from the start to the very end.

      RIP Tommy Smith..one off.

Tommy was a very good footballer far more than he was a hard man (so called). Checkout the 74 Fa Cup final and watch some of his touches.
