African Cup of Nations 2019

The African Cup of Nations kicks off today (21 June 2019). 
Hosted by EGYPT who are the most successful African nation in the tournament having won it 7 times and surely one of the favourites again this time around.





Egypt kick off the tournament tonight vs Zimbabwe who make the tournament for only their 4th time.

Looks like he's ready to leave the pitch.

He's been down several times through a mixture of fouls and self-inflicted error. Shown his ability in brief moments, but not much, and I'm still struggling to see his real quality.

Nigeria game plan was for Ndidi to boot Naby which he did pretty well, Naby wasn't much of a factor other then playing a couple good through balls. The game is pretty dull overall with very poor play in the final third from both sides.

Ndidi did decent enough. Keita far too weak.

Super Eagle's are 1st team into the next round.

That was a superb goal by Salah. Beautiful finish.

Unless the rules have changed again in the last few weeks, then Egypt are very lucky not to be down to 9 men. One chap lunged in scissor kicked a Congo player with both feet off the ground, and just now an Egyptian defender (last man) took down a Congo player who was through on goal to score. Just outside the box. Straight red... but no. Both were given yellow cards. 

3 nil nils today. Standard was pretty awful

Big win for Madagascar today vs Nigeria. Although the game has little significance to Nigeria's progression, it is an embarrassing result, and fully deserved.

Super Eagles desperately lack any real quality.

Worrying scene with Ugandan goalkeeper stretchered off later. Nobody seemed to touch him.

Sadio put behind the disappointment of a poor first pen to then score a goal and score a penalty at the second attempt.  Fair play for stepping up to take it.

Probably should have been given as a foul by Mane, but a decent finish. Glad to see him scoring. I want Senegal (mainly Mane) to do well.

That was unexpected for me, we are getting Salah about 2 weeks sooner back than I expected, thank you SA.

Happy this afternoon to watch the Super Eagles continue on. Good win over Cameroon, even though there was some appalling football at times, especially at the back.

Cool, means we get Salah back sooner. Obviously good to see our lads do well with their county but I’d much rather them back with us.

Mane and Senegal are up 1-0 with Mane assisting on the goal with a nice threw ball for Gueye to run on and Mane having multiple scoring chances but unable to finish. Looking like they will be in the semi-final unless Benin can find a goal from nothing.

Mane had a good game, and Senegal march on. Probably the favourites now.

Glad to see the Super Eagles are also into the Semi-Finals, but not convinced they have what it takes this time.

Enjoyed watching Madagascar's run in the tournament. Should be a tough match in the final, Algeria have looked good, while Senegal have stuttered a few times but seem to have picked up their game in the knockout stages. Obviously with Mane and also Koulibaly at the back I fancy Senegal to win.
