Liverpool to Villa in about 4 years. His biggest moment since leaving us for Barca was knocking Barca out in the Champions League.

Liverpool to Villa in about 4 years. His biggest moment since leaving us for Barca was knocking Barca out in the Champions League.

He might not have played as well as he'd have liked, but he won a few things:

      Barca
      La Liga: 2017–18, 2018–19
      Copa del Rey: 2017–18, 2020–21
      Supercopa de España: 2018

      Bayern Munich
      Bundesliga: 2019–20
      DFB-Pokal: 2019–20
      UEFA Champions League: 2019–20

Maybe he should have stayed at Liverpool.

But then we wouldn't have got the 140mill.

As much as I liked him, and would have liked him to stay at the time - looking back, I wouldn't change things, that 140mill was put to good use.

Fairly obvious he was heading there after Stevies conference yesterday giving out his stats despite saying didn't want to talk about other clubs players

Good luck to him.  I hope he does well and is able to find a little redemption as he plays out his final years.

Good for Villa though they're in a position where they're basically safe from relegation but too far from EL qualification. Will be a good opportunity for Phil to showcase he can still play in the PL and get a permanent transfer over the summer.

Villa has option to buy so if he proves himself, that's probably where he'll end up.

How is it an option to buy?  Isn't his contract up in the summer?  Maybe it's just an option with Phil to keep sign him up permanently if he does well?

Edit - Nevermind.  Apparently his contract expires in 2023.

I’m really interested to see how it goes, think he can have a James at Everton type impact at Aston Villa but actually keep it going for the remainder of the season. One things for sure, if he can still hit them outside the box shots he’ll win them a good few points.

Your maths are spot on Al!
There’s no doubt the influence Stevie will have can provide the boost to Coutinho’s performance.

Your memory of those outside the box shots are different to mine

90% of them I had to duck out of the way of in the Kop 😀

I also remember them winning us a good few points when we couldn’t break teams down, it literally became his trademark for a bit cutting in on the edge of the box and whipping into the opposite corner.

Actually you both are right. When he came to us then he wasnt a player who was good from distance, then last couple of seasons he became really good and i remember somebody else in the squad were saying that Cou used to stay behind after training sessions and focus on long shots.

No matter what happened when Cou left, he gave us alot of good memories and we as fans appreciate it.

Gini should have learned from Phil's experience, nevertheless I hope he does well. It's sad to see talent wasted.

Coutinho’s prowess has certainly diminished sines he left us. Let’s hope he pings in a couple of worldies v mancs, then goes back to mediocre 😂😂

People here still do not realize how much Klopp makes players look better than they actually are. Look at Coutinho, Mig, Shaq, Can or Gini and where they are now they do look quite ordinary in comparison. It was the same when he was in Mainz and Dortmund. There was an infamous player - Großkreutz - a guy with limited skills and Klopp made him look so good that he was nominated for the national team and won the World Cup in 2014 (on the bench only of course); after Klopp was gone Großkreutz dissappeared into deeper leagues again.

Cunthino will be an average player at Villa, he won't harm them, but he also will not help them much. If he does then it's a testament of Gerrard being the next Klopp-magician.

Gerrard squeezed a goal out of Couts almost immediately and it led to taking points off united in the end.

      I'll drink to that

I'd be interested to see what percentage of his wage Villa are paying. I'm sure I've read before he's on over £300,000 . I can't see them paying half of that?
I'd have liked to have seen him back with us for the remainder of the season on loan on a third of his Barca wage though .I know I'm in the minority..
