Rice and Phillips as a midfield duo no need to say any more.

From what I saw Italy waltzed past Rice most of the night. Most overhyped player in that side. Hope United do buy him.

I'd love to see the stats on these last minute subs to take pens. Just seems like a huge extra amount of pressure bringing a player on just to take one kick. Does it normally work out? I doubt it.
If the player you sub on is someone like Milner or Robertson or even Trent I'd understand. But it was a kid who has never been under that pressure EVER!

That could go down as one of the worst managerial  mistakes in the history of International football.

I really hope that the press and supporters don't lay all the blame on Saka. He is a very talented young player and should be a great player with a long career. But this can get into his head and affect him for the rest of his life. Too many athletes have had that split second mistake that they never get over and it spirals into depression and will ruin their lives and career. Google Scott Norwood and Bill Buckner.

Saka was appalling last night though, and should have been subbed off again. Unbelievable that he went and took a penalty

Yeah I know he was subbed off but my point is, why? Hendo is the Liverpool captain who won 4 Trophies in a 12 month span. He would of buried his PK. Instead they put it all on a 19yr old. I dont understand the rationalization of that decision.

Tbf I knew Hendo wasn't going to be a penalty taker. I think I've seen him take 3 and miss 3

Gary Neville on sky sports news just regarding the online racial abuse saying he's not slightly surprised when you've got a prime minister saying people are right to boo the taking of the knee.

      Absolutely spot on.

      Bang on by Neville there.

edit: Must add that it was an absolutely toe curling sight to see Johnson appropriating England's run to the final with some utterly cloying displays of band wagon jumping theatrics.

And yet, a large contingency of England support very much falls on the side of Johnson and his agenda. It's not just the booing of taking the knee but it's the other behaviour. The fighting, the indecent exposure, the goading of anything that looks or sounds remotely foreign. And to top it off on a more personal level for us, my brother, walking back from a friend's flat last night in London, heard the usual anti scouse chants being thrown out once again. They're a horrible bunch of people and perfectly represent Johnson's Britain.

      Bullshit!!

I've supported Liverpool and been going the game for a good 38 years and never seen kids and families abused by our fans the way described here, so f**k off with that apologetic sh*te.

Take the Scouse blinkers off for one moment mate.

Gary Neville just a bitter Labour supporter. Expect nothing more from him.

Does confirm that the taking of the knee is a waste of time though. You can never cure stupid. You cannot stop racism. Kneeling down literally does nothing for the cause.

The Football Association (FA) will conduct a full review after a "large number of drunken yobs" tried to force their way in to Wembley without tickets ahead of the Euro 2020 final.

Fans fought with stewards and police as they attempted to break through gates.

FA chief executive Mark Bullingham apologised to legitimate fans who were affected and said the security team had "never seen anything like it".

The Metropolitan Police said it worked with security to prevent breaches.

Mr Bullingham said he was not sure those who broke in were real fans.

"We have got a fantastic security team at the stadium and they have never seen anything like it.

"There were a large number of drunken yobs trying to force their way in, we run a stadium not a fortress.

I have to apologise to any fans whose experience was affected and any of the team who had to cope with this."

'not sure those who broke in were real fans'.  😂

      Stats from the game (BBC)

Italy have won their second European Championship title, and first in 53 years (also 1968); it's the longest ever gap between championships in the tournament by a single nation, surpassing Spain's 44-year wait from 1964 to 2008.

England have won just 22% (two of nine) of their major tournament shootouts (World Cup/Euros), the lowest ratio of any European nation to have been involved in three or more.

Italy found themselves trailing in a game for the first time at Euro 2020, while overall they spent 65 minutes behind against England in the final, 21 more than they had been behind in their 33-game unbeaten run (in all competitions) coming into the final (44).

England posted their lowest possession in a game at Wembley (34.4%) since November 2016 v Spain (34.3%).

Gareth Southgate has made at least one change to the England starting XI for 37 consecutive matches, making a total of 200 changes in that time and last staying with the same starting line-up in the 2018 World Cup semi-final.

At one minute 57 seconds, Luke Shaw's opener (his first ever goal for England) was the quickest goal scored in the final of the European Championship, while it was also England's quickest in the competition overall and the earliest Italy have ever conceded in the competition.

At 34 years and 71 days, Italy's Leonardo Bonucci became the oldest player ever to score in a European Championship final, and second-oldest for a European side in any major tournament final (World Cup/Euros), after Nils Liedholm for Sweden v Brazil at the 1958 World Cup (35 years, 264 days).

Against Italy, Harry Kane failed to muster a shot or create a goal-scoring chance for only the second time in his 61 appearances for England, also doing so in a friendly against Switzerland in September 2018.

Very poor possession stats that. For all the technical improvements of the England team (and English youngsters are much improved on the technical side) that is far from good enough. Thing is, I think they can be trained to keep the ball better in a way that England teams from past couldn't.

The wilful ignorance towards Henderson's abilities of keeping it simple while putting in the yards to make himself available in space is lost on the manager. If Henderson can do that why can't the others? To introduce him so late on and then haul him off was bizarre. That guy has operated on a level that is technically and tactically of a much higher level than most in that England team. Certainly more so than Mount, Phillips and Rice. That was the biggest issue of the night. In fairness to Southgate he took full responsibility of the penalties situation. I'd love to hear his thoughts on Henderson though.

Still, at least we get him back unharmed. Can't wait for Jordan, Jürgen and co to get back up and running.

Exactly why I don’t support England, the crowd  that follow them and their beliefs don’t represent me.

Kneeling down literally does nothing for the cause.

Nonetheless, kneeling is an outward expression that you're at least against it or you're in support of the cause. It doesn't stop there though. The rest is up to the individual to walk the talk. It doesn't mean anything IF they don't follow through after kneeling and stop at that.

Should say, it was so great to see Italy take the knee yesterday as well. No one talked about that and the fact that racism and racist abuse of black players in Italy is also a thing. So to see them do it was a wonderful act of solidarity.

Such a wonderfully mature and intelligent side are Italy. I think I read somewhere that they've won major tournaments on the soil of Spain, Germany, France and England now. Absolutely delighted for them and I hope they consolidate this with a World Cup win in Qatar, playing the sort of football they have done the past 4 weeks. Unbeaten for 3 years now? What a sensational side Mancini has built.

Hit a poor pen that was saved in their last friendly before competition started.
