Son went off crying but was never a red for him in all honesty. Tripped him but straight into Serge Aurier who did the damage. Sky not showing it for obvious reasons.

Injury no doubt is horrific. But it offers a clear example of the incompetence, weak and feeble nature of Martin Atkinson. You've got Spurs and Everton fans on twitter now saying that his refereeing probably contributed to the atmosphere that led to the injury as well as using the emotion of the event to change his mind. (Players like Shawcross at Stoke, Taylor at Birmingham were filthy individuals who always got excused because they 'weren't that type of guy'. They were. But on this occasion Son really isn't that type of guy.)

Not happy with inventing graphics to disallow Firmino's goal yesterday he administers an absolute shocker of another refereeing display exempt of no control, no reason and no intelligibility. What a weekend for the man. A clusterfuck of an individual who's overseen, almost single handedly, a farcical weekend of refereeing in the Premier League.

      Sack him.

I don't think it was a red for either of them, but certainly not Son.  Horrible injury like, but didn't deliberately have his leg broken by either of them.

Hope he gets the best treatment and makes as close to a full recovery as he possibly can.

Son got caught in the face by Gomes ref played on Son run 30 yards and lunged at Gomes ball was long gone, son had intent to get Gomes back not saying to break his leg hurt him but revenge he wanted. this happens in every league were players go after some payback, but in this case it back fired.
       Red should stand.

Son obviously didn’t mean for it to turn out the way it did but there’s no doubt he was chasing back with nothing other than the intention of bringing him down.

Go back a few weeks though and look at Chowdry on Salah. Chowdry went after Salah with nothing but intent on bringing him down and the way he flew in on Salah, the outcome could easily have been the same as Gomes.
But people tried to argue that Chowdry had no real intent and that it was purely tactical. Tactical or not, sooner or later someone was going to pick up a potential career ending injury from a cynical foul and now it’s happened.
Things aren’t going good for Son or Spurs this season so when you get caught by someone then you are going to be pissed and want to then even it up but no one would have predicted that happening.

The foul itself from Son clearly isn’t a red card but when you chase back with the sole intention of fouling them and this then happens, what do you expect.

Tough recovery period ahead for Gomes, mentally as much as physically.

      Yeah no doubt.

I think this is what Klopp was on about though when he has said numerous times that although not in the rules necessarily, but he thinks cynical fouls like Sons and Choudary should be red cards.

I guess when you're ahead of players running back you can't see or anticipate contact and that can be dangerous.

I'm still waiting to see the bad challenge from Son, as what injured Gomes was accidental and far from a bad challenge. End of the day, feel sorry for Gomes, but do I F**k want the game turning into Basketball!!

Nice to see Harry Wilson score on well worked corner but from the handful of times I watched him play he really doesn't offer a whole lot or is really noticeable on the pitch. Enjoyable game to watch between Newcastle and Bournemouth.

Which makes it all the more puzzling why we didn't try to sign him, but I guess we have enough midfielders.
