Manchester City 1-1 Liverpool: In game and Post Match discussion
      Aug 04, 2019 01:45:11 pm

Wembley waiting to be conquered by the European Champions

Starting XI: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson, Fabinho, Henderson, Wijnaldum, Origi, Salah, Firmino.

Subs: Mignolet, Lovren, Keita, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Lallana, Shaqiri, Matip.

Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino start for Liverpool in the Community Shield clash with Manchester City this afternoon.

The forward pair are named in Jürgen Klopp’s line-up at Wembley after beginning pre-season training on Monday at the Evian camp.

They’re joined by Divock Origi in attack, while elsewhere Joe Gomez begins in central defence alongside Virgil van Dijk.

James Milner is ruled out of the game as a precaution due to a tight muscle.

No actual striker on the  bench. Might make for an interesting lineup in the 2nd half if Bobby and Mo can't go the distance (just finishing their first week of training, those two).

Then we will see Origi in the middle and AOC and Shaqiri on the sides. Maybe Keita as well.

AOC and Shaq is probably the right call by you. Keita will probably sub on for Henderson or Gini.

Also looks like Gomez has supplanted Matip at center back.

No Harry Wilson. Even with Mily out of the team. Klopp doesn't rate him like some on here do.

Gomez had supplanted Matip at CB before he got injured last season.  Still too early to tell and I'd imagine Gomez and Matip will share out duties in the next two games.

Matip had dropped way off after his first season, but he rallied in the 2nd half of last season and played quite well. I remember Joe was in good form as well before getting injured. You are undoubtedly right about them sharing.

Think Brewster has struggled in the last few games so I’m not overly surprised when I think about it, big ask to play against City at any time of the year.

He may prefer to get Brewster a full match in the EFL Trophy in three days. No question which one Rhian would rather be involved in if it is a choice, but this may enter into Jürgen's decision.

Wasn't expecting Lovren and Lallana to still be on our bench the season after winning the European Cup.

However I am not a football manager.  Just makes me feel like a missed opportunity, especially when you look once more at Man City's bench.

Also my feeling. This talk about Lallana and AOC being like fresh blood etc, they aren’t. Lallana in particular is very injury prone and AOC has struggled with injuries throughout his career, notwithstanding the one he has come back from was a freak.

Hey ho, lets see what the season brings, come on reds!

Be losing both in the same way as Moreno and Sturridge I expect.

      I reckon he's pretty fatigued.
A long, long lay off, intensive pre-season.
We've seen with AOC in pre-season that his legs aren't quite there yet.

Brewster will get his chance, and I reckon plenty of them this season.

2 chances from giveaways, one for each side. Sterling dispossesses Gomez and Henderson nicks it from Stones, but neither resulting shot finds the back of the net.

So many empty seats. What's the point of having premier seats for the big games if no one turns up for them.

And now Firmino presses Stones into a mistake and sets up Salah, but the shot is wide. The press seems to be working well early.

Mo should have done better there (just a week into his preseason, I know).
