Terrible performance but take the win.

Game highlighted the importance of Firmino dropping into midfield because without Keita and Ox not up to speed we look so one paced.

Tell those players that trophy doesn’t matter 🤣

Haha, loves Jürgen sprinting onto the pitch. Hopefully pick up the club World Cup in December and add another trophy during the course of the season and suddenly it looks like we are collecting trophies quite regularly.

Love coming in here just to celebrate, get the F**k in you reds!

Hearing it's a friendly competition, F**k off, tell that to the players and the manager who were filled with emotion at the end there.

First of many this season hopefully, doesn't matter how we win as long as we keep on winning!

Watched at work and on the ride home, missed bits and pieces as I wrapped up some paperwork. Felt like we're were playing within ourselves at times and our offside trap has got to give George Graham wood.

Someone tell Adrian it's the European charity shield ;D.

Hes buzzing and I love that.

Like Jürgen says, 'it feels big'

Haha I called it that! Chuffed to win it (hopefully I’m allowed to be happy about it!). The save will do Adrián the world of good, aside from the rush of blood for the pen I think he has a pretty good game. I actually think the game will probably benefit the squad long term in terms of fitness but am a bit worried for Saturday. It’s by and large the same group of players who will have go again for the next one.

As an aside how good was a half fit Kante!

Just a wrecking ball of a player, imagine him in our lineup?

Pretty sure Adrian was off his line for that save too...

But VAR doesn't work on penalty shoot outs so...   :f_whistle:

Class isnt he. Still no idea why Sarri had him playing right winger last season?

Breaks it up and then carries it with ease. I like our midfielders but he has all the attributes we could ever need in a Klopp team. Not that it will happen mind!

From Daniel Taylor in The Guardian:

"Ultimately, though, they might have been fortunate the game even reached penalties. Liverpool’s players could feel aggrieved that the referee, Stephanie Frappart, gave Chelsea a penalty for Adrián’s alleged foul on Abraham. The officials in charge of the VAR monitors decided against over-ruling her and it was the same earlier in the match when a handball from Andreas Christensen went unpunished inside the penalty area. Christensen had his arms raised when he blocked Mané’s overhead kick and under the new rules – a point Uefa emphasised in a media briefing on the eve of this match – it should have resulted in a penalty."

Haven't seen a comment about this here but he's absolutely right about that first half decision. UEFA/FIFA have made it clear that if the arm is not within the silhouette of the body, it's a penalty. Doesn't matter how close or far away the shooter was to the defender.

Crap performance, apart from a few moments, but who cares, we got another piece of silverware, get in.

Klopp has to stop with these looney tunes lineups though, unless there were injury issues we don't know about.

I am however a bit worried about Southampton, we might need to rotate a bit.
