Got a week to recover now and hopefully Adrian gets rid of his mignoletitis 😡Mane MOTM

I like that word... Adrian went from hero to almost zero today. Undone all he did prior to that error. Unforced error. But that’s a keepers’ life.

Letting Ings go is probably the correct decision. Should’ve buried his sitter. But then again Mo also missed his 1x1.

Important thing at this point is to continue collecting points. We didn't start last season firing on all cylinders either, in fact the prophets of doom at the time kept insisting that we were just "lucky". One thing an intelligent person should be able to do on his life is learn from previous experience, so let's strive for that. :)

Bobby missed a great chance too though.

If I’m not mistaken, after that mistake by Adrian, there was not one pass back to him again

It just turns the whole game on its head. All of a sudden everyone seems fallible and it seems to be magnified tenfold when it comes at a point where you're secure, coasting and have seemingly done the job. It's like a F***ing molotov cocktail being thrown through your window while you're watching a Saturday night movie on the couch.

Just brings back horrid memories of Mignolet's keeping. How many points and games did Mignolet lose us from positions of strength? Truth be told we all stopped counting after a certain point - his keeping cost us millions of pounds of lost places in the league and arguably CL football during Klopp's first season with us in 15-16.

At least Adrian can console himself and  say that he's won us a trophy... one more than Mignolet ever did.

Cannot question the balls of this team tho....

Great to see Ox get 89mins ... hard to even judge how he played tbh as my stream was pathetic.

The negativity should not appear after my last pre-match post today. At least negative comments for boring wins. They had a chance to speak up before KO but nobody did. Posting in hindsight comments, would make them look well... less nice. :D enjoy the three points. ;D

He didn't play particularly well, none of the midfield did. He was better in the 2nd half but on the whole, he was no better or worse than any of the others.
Thought Milner was like a bull in a china shop the way he kept bundling into players both with and without the ball.

Salah only really had one or two chances, the one in the 2nd half he should have scored but his overall play was good, linked up well and was passing a lot more it seemed.

Think the only real standout players were probably Virgil and certainly Mane, but that said, Bobby played well, he had a big miss but took his goal well and had some really good bits of play.
The good thing with performances like this is that if we can play like this and still get the 3 points then it should be a lot more comfortable when we actually start to click.

OK - Haven't read the post-kickoff part of the thread yet but I'm sure it was 100% supportive of the team!

Good interview just now on LFC TV with Ox. He rightly refers to his performance as "alright/decent" and adds he mostly concentrated on his defensive responsibilities.

I think other than the three points, the main benefit of this may be to get him so many minutes. I think he showed some very good signs re his driving forward with the ball. No, he didn't create any clear-cut chances and that will be one of his main responsibilities, but I think this should give him much more comfort/confidence in his rise back to being a first choice player.

Otherwise, we withstood the form from a switched on opponent over 45 minutes, and then moments of class from Sadio and Bobby made the difference. We were managing the match at the end quite well and then, well what can you say about Adrian's shocker? I just kept looking at his options on the replay and there's literally only one thing he couldn't do...

Saying that, I had 2-1 in the contest. Looks like Adrian had 2-1 at the bookies and maybe Danny Ings did as well.

Klopp just said post match the told the team beforehand, that what he wanted to read in the papers afterward was "The Mentality Giants were in town."

Yep. Don't forget the save he made in the 1st half. That should have been a goal but he robbed the Saints there.

After skimming through the thread, not sure if ruthcity has succeeded in admonishing the board to be more positive, or if one or two key "Ignore" choices makes all the difference in the world.  :)

      BTW, only one Erik Lamela!

Klopp just said post match the told the team beforehand, that what he wanted to read in the papers afterward was "The Mentality Giants were in town."

There was a German surfer who gave a presentation to the team during the conditioning camp in France. The idea was to ensure that the team does not let its guard down and create the mentality to make the European champions achieve more than what they think they think they can. In any case, we were the "mentality monsters" last season. :)

All goals count the same regardless of magnitude of error, and Ederson just gifted Spurs the tying goal

Hard game to watch to be honest. We were very poor. Sloppy with simple passes and we made Southampton look better than they are.
As expected we were much better in the second half, until Adrians error gave them hope.
I expected us to be below power after the Super Cup, so not too worried about the performance. A big 3 points in a game we could've gotten 1 in.

It really does bugger belief that this game wasn't switched to Sunday. They've known about the fixture for a while, today's game wasn't scheduled for national TV, our Wednesday match was about as far away in Europe as you can go, meaning we weren't even back on Merseyside for more than 24 hours. So Jürgen's "mentality giants" redux is quite accurate.

Now a week of rest and proper training to prepare for Arsenal.

Well that was a close one, terrible first half had no control over what was happening what so ever. I think something is up with the defense and Adrian taking too long with the ball at his feet isn't helping settle the teams nerves.

Nevertheless, we were near enough unplayable for the majority of the second half, Mane, Ox and Firmino all standing out, Salah with a couple lovely touches and turns again.

Worryingly once that goal went in, we seemed to lose our nerve again and seemed all over the place.

We really need to be more controlled in our play, unsure as to why we seem so keen on having such a high line at the back, it keeps exposing us once an opposition player gets in behind our midfield, it just takes one pass for them to cut through as we saw today once or twice and several times against Chelsea.

With all of the above being said, what matters is we got the three points and as Klopp put it, this was the biggest banana skin, the fatigue from the Super Cup and the lack of training against good team at home, all that matters is we keep bringing in them lovely 3 points.

      Come on you reds!

Oh yeah Mane is world class.

I could only listen on 5 live so can’t comment on the match too much.
It did seem that apart from the keeper hick up, we suffered from tired legs in various positions which was only to be expected.
Main thing, under par but still logging 3 points.
And on to the next three 😊

With 7 days till our next game I feel like the squad will be in a good place in terms of fitness when arsenal come to anfield. Massive to win our opening two games and to throw in the Super Cup as well.
