Aston Villa 1-2 Liverpool: In game and Post Match discussion
      Nov 02, 2019 02:06:06 pm

Adam Lallana starts for Liverpool in this afternoon’s Premier League encounter at Aston Villa.

The midfielder replaces Fabinho in the Reds’ starting XI in the only alteration to the team deployed against Tottenham Hotspur last Sunday.

Naby Keita has recovered from a knock sustained during the Carabao Cup win over Arsenal in midweek and takes a place on the substitutes’ bench.

Liverpool XI: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Lovren, Van Dijk, Robertson, Lallana, Henderson, Wijnaldum, Mane, Salah, Firmino.

Subs: Adrian, Fabinho, Milner, Keita, Gomez, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Origi.

Liverpool: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Lovren, Van Dijk, Robertson, Lallana, Henderson, Wijnaldum, Mane, Salah, Firmino.

Subs: Adrian, Fabinho, Milner, Keita, Gomez, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Origi.

So my question from this is will Lallana play the same role Fabinho typically does, or will Wijnaldum and Henderson be more the anchors with Lallana playing a bit further upfield behind the front three. The midfield three are always rather fluid in formation anyway, but this is what question comes to mind for me.

Also, saving Fabinho for the City match re cards suspension obviously as we've been discussing, but the fact that he's on the bench...in what circumstances would he then be subbed on?

Looking forward to the match as always - wish I could see it.

Sorry guys for lack of pictures but I cannot post.

I believe we have enough to beat them! It is reasonable about Fabinho being on yellows.

Thought Lallana played well in the role especially first half on the half turn and positive passing. Tired a bit second half but sure could interchange with him playing instead of Ox and Naby suggests he may play there

Very possible. I noticed in watching the full match that none of the players who were getting pelters on here were as bad as some made them out to be during the match thread. I get that you don't concede five goals without some things not being stellar, but given all the circumstances I thought there were a lot of positives, including from individuals like Lallana.

Bit surprised Lallana got the nod over Alex. Hendo probably play off the back 4 with Lallana in the hole just off the pace.Would've gone for Ox. bit more direct, not as intricate as Lallana but still a strong line up. Lovren still getting the nod before Gomez.

Was at the game so didnt notice if he was getting Pelters but was unjust if so kept the ball better than Ox and Naby

Could be trouble if that’s Lallana as the defensive midfielder.

Doubt it will be.  That McGinn lad for Villa has been decent this season so one to watch.  Think Henderson and Wijnaldum will both probably take turns covering that position.

Hoping to not see Fabinho's name in the MOTM poll because we didn't have to bring him on.

I'm normally happy to say any win will do, but it would be much better all around if especially today we can have this all dusted by the 60th minute.

Ref will not be able to resist carding Fabinho if he comes on to get his little moment on MOTD tonight.

Could be trouble if that’s Lallana as the defensive midfielder.

He will do his defensive stuff but he'll pop up just off the pace and play off Bobby & Mo. Hendo will revert back to his holding playmaker role. Lallana adept at arriving late in the box to nick a goal. Could be a good pick.

It's the midfield trio that worked incredibly well in the first half of Klopp's first full season here before Lallana got injured.

Henderson will anchor the midfield, Wijnaldum most likely on the left of the midfield three and Lallana on the right. Obviously interchanging positions when needed and rotating etc.

A midfield in a team that was nowhere near the level we are at now.
