Referees statement about the disallowed goal:

This just in from Referee HQ
“In the 42nd minute of Crystal Palace v Liverpool, James Tomkins scored for Crystal Palace,” begins the dispatch from the PGMOL. “The on-field decision was to award the goal, but the VAR identified a clear push by Jordan Ayew on Dejan Lovren and advised the referee to reverse his decision and award a free kick to Liverpool.”

IFAB: Laws of the Game – Law 12

A direct free kick is awarded if a player commits any of the following offences against an opponent in a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force:

      charges
      jumps at
      kicks or attempts to kick
      pushes
strikes or attempts to strike (including head-butt)
      tackles or challenges
      trips or attempts to trip

We never give up! So many times in years gone by our heads would have dropped when they equalised but in a game where we struggled to create chances, we then hit back and regained the lead within minutes.

We could have done with this game being a week after the City one, think we’d have wiped the floor with them. But it was always going to be difficult after an International break. Majority of the team were poor today compared to what they are capable of but the one thing that was spot on again was the mentality and fight to get the win.

People say how will we cope without a key player. Well like without Salah and Bobby vs Barca, without Alisson for much of this season so far and without Salah a couple of times this season...we cope by still getting the win!!

Get in. Huge pressure on City and Chelsea now, it’s certain we will have extended our lead over at least one of them. Hopefully they will be a draw.

Something else I wonder about this ruling in today's game, as VAR becomes more established, will teams in England begin to change their approach to corners and other set pieces in the attacking end? Because everyone* has set piece designs with players running interference or setting picks or just plain fouling defenders, but if these start getting pegged back, that probably will have to change.

(I don't just mean other teams. When Ragnar Klavan played for us he was like a human wrecking ball trying to open chances for his teammates by plowing over defenders.  ;D )

Welcome win by the lads with great character.  Once again, Gini did his invisible man act. He is just not good enough in our midfield. The sooner the Ox gets back to full fitness, the better..

So what's more important in this league? Poor performance or three points? Although performance usually leads to goals which results in points.

Poor quality game but again we showed great fighting spirit and deserved the 3 points.
Onwards and upwards but can we please buy a top quality 4th forward, we really need it.

So vital on days like today where or rivals are playing each other. We never seem to be concerned about pressure at all any more. Always so relaxed no matter the situation

The reason they switched to attacking our right side with TAA, was because Wijnaldum had the left locked down tight.
He was excellent defensively, which allowed Robertson to get forwards more against a very well organised side.

      Never in dooubt ;)

Scrappy game, which was exactly the way they wanted it.

We kept plugging away though, and got an excellent win against a tough side that were very well organised.

      We go again.
