Champions League Draw Monday Dec. 16

Just give me Sergio Ramos. That individual. That pr**k. It's payback time. I'm not even talking about which team I want. I want the man, well and truly slaughtered at Anfield.

I wanted to make this a poll but don't know how.

Be nice to go back to play at Atletico Madrid's ground - but then they're probably the toughest opponent in that group.

Lyon would be a decent trip.  Can't remember us having played them?

I can see your point but Ramos would probably love being the pantomime villain!  He's done it throughout his entire career.  (Not to mention the fact that he could injure one of our players again!)

Defeated Augsburg 1-0 (I did not remember it being this close - we discovered Raggy there).
Defeated Man United 3-1 (Coutinho goal at Old Trafford my favorite of his for us)
Defeated Borussia Dortmund 5-4 (one of the great fightbacks)
Defeated Villareal 3-1 (remember their manager sprinting about after they won the first leg - makes me laugh)
Lost to Seville 3-1 in the Final (the handballs, the handballs).

2017-18 European Cup

Defeated Porto 5-0 (poetry in motion)
Defeated Man City 5-1 (ditto)
Defeated Roma 7-6 (madness)
Lost to Real Madrid 3-1 in the final (Ramos, Karius and Bale combine to do us in).

2018-19 European Cup

Defeated Bayern Munich 3-1
Defeated Porto 6-1
Defeated Barcelona 4-3 (best fightback ever)
Defeated Spurs 2-0 in the final.


That's 11-2 overall in knockout rounds.

Thanks for posting the poll.

Drawn in the same group with Lyon in the forgettable 2009-2010 campaign. Lost 1-2 at home to a 90th minute winner (Yossi scored for us) and drew 1-1 in France to finish 3rd in the group.
Ryan Babel scored for us that night. that was December 2009. Our lineup that night under Rafa was:

Pepe, Agger, Kyrgiakos, Carragher, Insua (still playing for Stuttgart - had to look it up), Mascherano, Leiva, Benayoun, Voronin, Kuyt, Torres

(Later that season was the last time I've been over to see the team, beating Lille 3-0 in the round of 16 of the UEFA Cup - 10 years is too long but I was the one who fathered five kids so.....).

Think it's 11-0 in 2 legged knockout games as well - if you include the qualifier v Hoffenheim.

We could be drawn against one of the following teams:

Real Madrid
Atalanta
Atletico Madrid
Borussia Dortmund
Lyon

Who would you most like us to play next in the competition?

It doesn't matter. All those teams are one step behind the real powerhouses (Us, Barca, Juve, PSG, City), some just have an illustrious name that fools you in thinking they are what their name promises. In fact playing Atalanta or Borussia might be dangerous in terms of under-estimation. If you play Real, you can bet anyone will be focused properly.

If you are any other team in that list (or indeed the entire last 16) do you want to draw Liverpool? I don’t think there’s a team left in who can beat us. We can only beat ourselves through complacency.

Ramos may well be a pantomime Villain but he will feel the heat from the entire ground for every micro second of the game. Second leg at home what a night that could be.

I hope we get Madrid and go to the Santiago Bernabéu and smash a dozen into Zidanes face. He just gave the best team in Europe a sh*t load of bulletin board material and incentive to show the plastic Madrid fanbase they are no longer the Galactico's. Klopp is 100x the manager that Zidane is and that arrogance just pissed off the current Kings of Europe. I cant wait!

Well, anyone can say anything. Most people can say we lost it at halftime in Istanbul, and at 0-3 vs Barca. But it’s the final result that matters.

Last game July 2019. Won 3-1. Probably the best option there is.

We scored 1 goal against Napoli in 2 games. We can't get them in this round, but it shows why I want to avoid the strongest teams until there are no alternatives.

"Complacency", such a luxury in CL, a serious team aiming for the tittle cant afford any of it no matter who the opponent is.

Think we're nailed on to get one of the Madrid teams but I'd much rather Atalanta or Lyon.

Would prefer Lyon or Atlanata solely from a ticketing point of view. Very slim chances of getting in if we draw one of the big guns.

Football-wise I've not really got a preference who we draw as I'm confident we can dismantle anybody over two legs. I think Atletico are probably the biggest threat. Been impressed by them this season, their league position doesn't reflect how well they've played as they've been quite unlucky up to now. Would be an interesting tie as well, they're widely considered to have been the best defensive side in the world over the last 4-5 years so it'd be fascinating to see how they try to deal with us

I get why people want Real Madrid. but nah. Id much rather get Lyon or Atalanta at this stage.
