Flamengo v. Liverpool CWC Final Sat 21st Dec 17:30
      Dec 19, 2019 04:33:26 pm
      So we're in the final.

From 5,000 feet above I can say assuredly that Flamengo will have a much more involved attack than Monterrey did. Monterrey had players who could really strike a ball and obviously forced Alisson to make some great saves, but the Brazilian club can get forward MUCH quicker, both down the wings and via combining through the middle. They are just much more dynamic. So our defence including midfielders, is going to have play much more up to its usual standard.

Obviously having Virgil back would help, but it's more than just that. We didn't have Fabinho, Gini or Henderson in midfield and that made us very porous. Flamengo could exploit that even more effectively than Monterrey did.

Likely Fab and Gini are still missing on Saturday. Hendo in midfield would help but the rest of the options are mainly attacking players it seems to me.

I wonder if the best option for Saturday is to just go for it, to show every bit of attacking firepower we have, fullbacks bombing forward, first choice front three interweaving with those two and Keita, not worrying much about conceding because we'll just score another one then. This isn't a sustainable tactic over the season but maybe as a one-off it would be the way to go, given our personnel issues. Would likely be fun to watch, at any rate.

Hopefully those six attacking players and our goalkeeper can have special performances all at once, with our defensive group putting in an industrious shift for us. Let's make it a night/day to remember.

it would be a fitting end to an incredible year for the Club. Jürgen will not match Sir Bob's record or even Shankly's but he can be the first to elevate this club to World Champion Status and I think he deserves to be seen in this unique way.
I hope he realises just how much we respect him as our manager and as a man. Saturday these lads will see this as a chance to become immortal and to do what no other Liverpool team has done I don't think they will let this opportunity pass them by

Surely full strength we'll have more than what Flamengo can handle and should be able to contain their attacks. I'm more concerned about their cheating and dirty tricks, does anyone know who the ref is, hopefully not another South American.

Being world champions would really suit this club of ours. It'll be a tough match on Saturday but the team will give all they can.

If Virgil is back I'm confident of a win, if hes not, then all bets are off really.

Virgils presence would complete the defence and allow Hendo to slot into midfield to complete that.

3 attack minded midfielders, with Hendo in the centre of defence again, that's asking for trouble.

I'm expecting this to be a proper game of football played at a decent intensity. This is their everything and they will be coming for us.

Good side Clint and one I believe MOST would go for, but i don't think Gini will make it, hope I'm wrong but he's most definitely a doubt, be happy enough tho if the Ox takes the field in his stead,

Flamenco looked decent on the front foot but not so going backwards, I think without stating the obvious we can exploit the spaces behind and between the lines,
NEED Virgil back for this even if he's not 100%, a 90% Virgil is better than a 110% Henderson impersonating a CB,

ANYHOO,  both sides will be full on so we could be treated to a wee goal scoring bonanza,  in the end it may be decided by who has the tightest defence and the best keeper, and the fittest squad,
No prizes for guessing who wins that argument !

      Lets get it.

Watched the semi v River Plate and RP were superior most of the game.

Its goals that count and Flamengo got it at the death.

Im more comfortable facing them than I would have been RP.

Still a dangerous team ... but I think our name on this as WORLD CHAMPIONS

Hm, seems that this is a rematch for a final we lost in 1981, that should be enough for a good atmosphere itself. Im gonna watch this game, im gonna support the reds from the bottom of my heart... just my hometown club won this trophy long time a go and it was always belittled like a trophy with no major importance, maybe i fall under the influence of all those stories.

But now when i see how all of you and other fans see this final, you got me in the hype train again. Going to reserve a table in the local pub to watch it tomorrow with some mates, final is final.

fair point to an extent but I do think VAR prevents a referee being to biased or to wrong.

Our lads will have to be on their game physically, hopefully now they’ve had a few days to adjust they’ll be ready. I thought we got outmuscled and pushed about a bit during the first game. Hopefully having BVD back will make a big difference.

Depends on the ref and how he determines situations, favoured the Mexicans last time, they fell like domino's at times & the ref hoovered it up like that's the norm yet Mo got booted all game and bugger all given

The issue I have, is every time we touch one of their players they’ll go down like s sack of sh*t, because that’s how they play. The ref will give them everything, and if we do it, we’ll be accused of diving.
Fearful of this game as the dark arts could undo us, and if we lose because of it, it could upset the confidence a bit.
Hope to F**k we batter them, but I think it will be a close run game.
Probably won by the odd goal.
      Pray it’s ours.

Ref is some fella from Qatar, i doubt he knows how to favor anyone, i just hope he wont ruin the game by calling for VAR every 10 minutes.

According to Wikipedia, it was the Brazilian teams Cruzeiro and Corinthians.

Rate this as a 50/50 toss up.  CWC certainly seems to be a much bigger thing for the South Americans but I'd expect us to have the better side.

Can't even fathom us failing for the fourth time to land this though!

Got to be honest, I think in the past Liverpool as a club probably didn’t take this serious enough, stories of Liverpool players drinking, playing golf etc prior to playing Flamenco explains all we need to know, that was the culture back then, it wasn’t out of the ordinary for players to go on a jolly after a match day, I think most top division players did similar with their respective clubs,

So for a club so successful as Liverpool were, to be invited to such a occasion was seen as a nice wee couple of days  out in the sunshine, a few beers, relax, do some bonding, perhaps with the local females and chuck  in a couple of games for bums on seats making a fast buck for the powers at be,

Bit different this time round though, Jürgen Wants this trophy, and the prestige that comes with it, not to mention the historical value, so do the players, people may see it as a waste of time, and not particularly ideal with the timing, but with everything else Jürgen has been involved with, there are no negative undertones, he and his staff get on with and deal with it the best they can, it is what it is as he says on a consistent basis, could it have been rescheduled perhaps but there was never ever a perfect time for what is essentially a one off competition ,
As ever Jürgen will look at the positives rather than anything else, he’ll use it more as a mini break with a couple of serious games to boot,

So in 90 mins time we face a South American outfit who will test us, and we will obviously test them, and it will come down to who is the fairest of them all , or in other words who are the fittest, we keep it tight for a good half hour save the legs then with our ability to control we should get the better of them.

Really looking forward to this now.

No kobasa jokes please. Thank you.

Virgil ok apparently so our chances have just gone up quite a bit. I will never ever forget watching Jordan back in June the emotion was just so raw. Lets send a message out to the clown in Old toilet who still thinks City are the best team in England 14 points behind the Word Champs. I think the lads are going to be really up for making club History tonight
