As much as YNWA will always be our anthem that defines us if I could have just one more wish before I leave this earth it would be to sing "We are the Champions" on the KOP.  It is a song which reflects Jurgens team perfectly .I've paid my dues time after time.

I would like the song, but a bit over played this one for me, Walt.

Rather have some club anthems than the generic playlist of we are the champions, and hi ho the silver lining etc...

No doubting the song will crop up though, never see a trophy ceremony in this country, in any team sport, without it. Always a crowd pleaser, I'm probably just miserable.

Well maybe when you sang it all those years ago it still seems unique to us and the lyrics just fit Jürgen's Liverpool

come on it is from 1977 the year we started to dominate the world. This was my era on the KOP if you have never been on the KOP singing this then its something you cant really appreciate but you can now with Jurgens teamsJust read the Lyrics Jürgen could have written them

Nah after the embarrassment of that in Istanbul in 2005, I'd rather settle for a rousing chant of CAMPIONE, CAMPIONE, CAMPIONE......LIVERPOOL!!

I love Queen but I can't stand that tune. Certainly wouldn't want to hear it at Anfield either, generic song that gets played over the tannoy every at basically every cup final. Liverpool have always been ahead of the curve in terms of chants so I think we could do much better

YNWA is of course better but the lyrics for We are the Champions are very apt for Liverpool, I still think its a great song.

Can understand the original poster's point about it being sung on the Kop when it first came out, as did a lot of pop songs during the 60s & 70s, that must have been great at the time.

I think We Are The Champions has been sung by too many clubs on too many occasions since then though & it's almost lost it's meaning. The best thing about Liverpool is the originality, I like that we don't sing from the generic football hymn sheet of "Who are ya" & "You're not singing anymore" chants. I just see We Are The Champions as another generic song

To me it's the ultimate Champions song, lyrics are perfect and full of meaning, can get emotional singing along with it in the car, nevermind getting the chance to blaring it out if could win the PL.
Would be really special, cause thought might never see us at that level again before shuffling off this mortal coil
We've had some near misses so am NOT getting ahead of myself, long way to go and it's not won yet.
But have thought about singing that very song 'on the right occasion' plenty of times, looked on while other teams and fans made those memories - would love to make a few more with Jürgen and the lads - winning the PL has literally become like a grail...

pity you weren't about  in the 70's and 80's George Sephton played every game when we were Champions . It has historic meaning I don't give a F**k where else it is played it hasn't been played at a league game for nearly 30 years that is the significance not whether you like or dislike it as a song.

Done it, many, many years ago, standing in the Kop, at the front on the Kemlyn Rd side. Never in the middle, not that mad, and I was only about 16 I think, game was against Villa, thought we won 3-1, but looking at the records, the only one I can find at that time of the season was 1-1.

The last time I had a really good memory of it was in 2005, you know the game, but sadly the telecast finished early.

That song was played so much in the late 70's and early 80's, good memories, of the Kop, and Annie Rd. Although we are seeing glory days return, the young fans of nower days don't know what they missed, 18000 standing Kopites singing and swaying, one big collective, resistance was useless, we were the Borg!
