Been a disaster so far at the parcel depot work at. Exports down by two-thirds, 80,000+ parcels in limbo, just in the UK, more stuck in mainland Europe. So many people refusing to pay import duty, a lot of them get mad when you say it is because of Brexit.

I've had to do a sh*t tonne of overtime clearing up some of this avoidable mess.

      Better for our farmers  :f_sorry:
      Better for our fisheries :f_sorry:
      £350m for the NHS :f_sorry:
      Control Our Borders :f_sorry:

Brexit has been and always will be when this country shot itself in the foot.

      I’m
Not taking in any European goods at present due to tariffs being paid upfront.. can’t afford to do it..

Hey but we’re getting wine & beef from
      Australia...🙄

An immigration system "controlled by the UK - not the EU". In other words, back to how it was before Brexit. Stick with the devil you know and all that.

Meanwhile, the Tories and the DUP are still threatening to suspend the NI protocol, claiming it's not what they signed up for. Yes it is, therefore the protocol must be implemented as agreed.

‘Hyper-creepy’: Gavin Williamson mocked over One Britain, One Nation song

Education secretary upsets some parents for encouraging all schools to take part in campaign

For North Korea, it is a rousing anthem with a bold opening line: “Let morning shine on the silver and gold of our land.” For Vladimir Putin, it’s a chanson-like melody, Where does the motherland begin?, from his favourite Soviet spy film. And for Gavin Williamson, it’s a new “patriotic” song with the chorus line “Strong Britain, Great Nation”.

The education secretary has provoked outrage – both real and amused – for suggesting children should sing the song on Friday to mark “One Britain, One Nation” (OBON) day. Williamson has praised the campaign by a former policeman, Kash Singh, and encouraged all schools to take part. “Children can learn about our shared values of tolerance, kindness, pride and respect,” the education department tweeted.

A video of the song sung by Bradford schoolchildren features the flags of England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Footage shows them waving union jacks and posing for group photos holding the OBON banner. The lyrics say: “We are British and we have one dream / To unite all people in one great team.” The song ends with the words: “Strong Britain, Great Nation!” repeated four times.

Critics pointed out that most Scottish schools will have already broken up by Friday for the summer holidays. And, they note, Northern Ireland is not a part of Great Britain. Others have gone further – posting memes with Boris Johnson’s face pasted on the body of North Korea’s Kim Jong-un.

There have been inevitable comparisons with the Hitler Youth and with the school song sung by millions of young East German communist pioneers: “Uns’re Heimat”, or “Our homeland”. Some have suggested alternative patriotic anthems, including the Sex Pistols’ God Save the Queen or Pink Floyd’s We Don’t Need No Education. Comments have ranged from “brainwashing” and “stomach-churning”, to “hyper-creepy”.

Even the usually flag-waving Daily Express struck a sceptical note on Wednesday, reporting that some parents have threatened to boycott the event and to take their children out of school in protest. “Leaving aside the significant concern that this all seems very Hitler Youth, why on earth are you encouraging singing in schools during a global pandemic when cases are rising in schools?” one asked Williamson on Twitter.

Meanwhile the LBC host James O’Brien played the song on his show on Wednesday while standing ironically to attention. Striking a tone both weary and incredulous, he said: “I wish I was joking. It’s real. It’s actually real. I don’t know how much time we can spend on it without collapsing into fits of giggles coupled with a really weird sense of desolation.”

Singh defended his concept, which began in Bradford and West Yorkshire. He said it had been “very successful indeed”. “This country is a brilliant country, I came to this country as a six-year-old kid who couldn’t speak a word of English. My parents were labourers, they worked in a factory and foundry. There are fantastic people in this country,” he told the Telegraph and Argus.

He added: “I think we need to celebrate that and create this spirit of oneness and togetherness, and showcase that we’re all one people of this country regardless of where you’re from.” The campaign has attracted support from former politicians including Norman Tebbit and the MP Brandon Lewis, as well as the actor Joanna Lumley.

More of those big wins from Brexit.  Reintroduction of mobile phone roaming costs when travelling to Europe.

EE to reintroduce Europe roaming charges in January
Mobile operator EE will charge new customers extra to use their mobile phones in Europe from January.

Those joining or upgrading from 7 July 2021 will be charged £2 a day to use their allowances in 47 European destinations from January 2022.

EE previously said it had no plans to reintroduce roaming charges in Europe.

It is the first UK operator to reintroduce the charges since the Brexit trade deal was signed at the end of December.

Since 2017, mobile networks in EU countries have not been allowed to charge customers extra to use their phones in other EU countries.

There are some "fair use" limits, for example, you cannot get a mobile phone contract from Romania and then use it all year round in Italy.

In January 2021, EE, O2, Three and Vodafone all stated they had no plans to reintroduce roaming charges, despite Brexit giving them the option to do so.

EE said on Thursday that introducing the charges would "support investment into our UK based customer service and leading UK network".

Jim Allister and Kate Hoey continuing to make themselves look stupid over here in NI.

You guys want to be over here to see the nonsense. If I didn't think it is likely to lead to violence on the streets it would be comical.

Pretty much the biggest complaints about how leaving the EU has left things here is from the very same people who voted for it and couldn't wait to leave.

And to add to it all they want to do is blame someone else

Agree mate. Same goes for Allister. An apparent intelligent and educated man on the face of it, who makes himself look very stupid on countless occasions.

Problem is this nonsense is whipping up young loyalists to protest and I'm 100% sure they don't even know what they're protesting about or what they want.

To see people out protesting with Union flags about the protocol when it is the very Govt of the flag that agreed to it seems to escape most people's attention.

      Ridiculous.

Can anyone point to a single benefit from leaving the EU that isn't some glib jingoistic, nationalistic nonsense that isn't very important?

Odd that we are the only country suffering these shortages..

What’s not being mentioned in the media about drivers..

European drivers are refusing to deliver in the UK because once they enter they need to quarantine & most are not vaxxed…

Or the Govt have been encouraging UK businesses to take on more British drivers and less European.
