      Title Winning Goal
      Feb 11, 2020 03:57:08 pm
So 6 more wins for the title. Just as a hypothesis - Say we win our next 5 league games & are unfortunately knocked out of the FA Cup by Chelsea, after a valiant performance by the kids. That (I think) would leave us facing Crystal Palace on Saturday 21st March, needing a win to clinch the league (providing City win all of their remaining games up to that point)

So here's the scenario - the game is deadlocked at 0-0, it's been scrappy. Hodgson has turned up and stuck 10 men behind the ball, aware of the fact it's 10 years since his woeful tenure, wanting to do everything he can to stop poetic justice running its course & to deny Liverpool the chance of clinching their elusive 19th league title in front of his nose.

90 minutes on the clock and we're in to added time - A chance is carved out. The ball is squared across the box and somebody is there to tap it into an open net - Who would you want that player to be?

VVD. For me, we started to look a prospect when he arrived, incredible CB.
Hendo does some great work on the wing, beats a couple of guys and whips in a cross for VVD [who has stayed up for a corner :) ] who powers home a header from around the penalty spot.

Love the idea of Trent ( scouser) wining it, but for all he does to create goals and score late decisive goals, has to be my fave, Bobby With one of his deft turns, leaving a couple of defenders on their arses, and BOOM !

      My choices;

      1. Hendo - Captain, obviously. Would love it to be him after all the stick he's taken in the past. He'll go down in history no matter what & he's scored some important goals for us but I'd love him to have a "Gerrard moment" what people can look back on

      2. Robbo - No real need for an explanation. It's just Robbo

      3. Trent - Be great for a scouser to do it

      A real team goal.

      Every player touches the ball.

We keep it for a good 10 mins, passing, moving probing and they can't get near us.

Then we spot an opening, and quick as a flash, we step up a gear, the ball zipping around, opponents in disarray, working it around the box, in quick 1-2's, until running from deep, Henderson bursts into the box, the 'keeper charges out, a little flick to Firmino, who scores no-look into an untended net.

Henderson's pass to Trent to the wing then Trent cut back inside beat a defender and on the edge on the box, he shots a wonderful goal.

      An Englishman to a Scouser.

However, even a dog scores it I would be happy.

Won't be at City if we win out. It's only possible if we drop points.

City has 51 points after 25 games. 90 max points if they win out.
We have 73 points after 25 games. We need 6 more wins 18 points to reach 91 points.

      That makes Palace at home.

Origi at the right place and the right time once again at the Kop end. No two ways about it. I won't mind if it's off a cheeky quickly taken corner.

I'm thinking Palace as well just now. Was trying to think of a scenario where Roy starts celebrating for us. JĆ¼rgen might enjoy Mama Sakho scoring an own goal to clinch the title for us as well. To celebrate, JĆ¼rgen and Pep can do the Mama-Benteke secret handshake they did when Mama was on loan there and Benteke scored two to beat us.

We should have won the title last year if it wasn't for a financially doped competitor we would have.  But over the last 2 years every player in the core of the team have had some sensational moments important contributions.   I just find it hard to choose one.  Whilst his contribution against Barcelona was very important but just feel that Gini has had the least exposure. But for me it would be nice to be a special team goal.   I don't think it will be tight game personally when or if the finishing lines starts flashing during a game, I think it is going to be a comfortable win.  Might be that all three of our forwards get a goal.

My fear is that it is decided with City dropping points somewhere and our team not on the park, maybe playing later that day, already having played earlier or playing the next day. It won't take anything away from our accomplishment or our joy over finally winning the league, but it would be nice for that moment to be there with fans and team present.

We won our last title, waiting at Anfield for the score from Villa v Norwich. It didn't dampen our celebrations. Nor did it in 83 when we won the league because Norwich beat the mancs.

Anyone. We've had this discussion already.

Hopefully it will be against Palace, but assuming the game is off, it doesn't matter. Personally I don't think Hodgson has the wherewithal to keep us scoreless at Anfield for 90 minutes, as nobody else has.

Most of us would have been happy enough in August just to win the league. Not many of us were too bothered how or when. The same applies now.

We won our last title, waiting at Anfield for the score from Villa v Norwich. It didn't dampen our celebrations. Nor did it in 83 when we won the league because Norwich beat the mancs.

As.i said, it won't take ANYTHING away from our joy at the accomplishment. The example you cite from last time people were at Anfield. Works.

My fear is that it is decided with City dropping points somewhere and our team not on the park, maybe playing later that day, already having played earlier or playing the next day. It won't take anything away from our accomplishment or our joy over finally winning the league, but it would be nice for that moment to be there with fans and team present.

Hendo is a great shout, from being told he is basically sh*te, by Ferguson, to lifting the CL Trophy & ultimately the EPL Trophy would be a real ā€˜F**k Youā€™ moment for him, however, he will have the honour of Lifting both as Liverpool Captain and be transferred into instant Legendary status, following in the footsteps of club Captains before him,

Ideally tho, on the day All of our front three score in a exhibition of football where everyone contributes  from Allison to Salah, in our best performance of the season, everything clicks, from 50/60 yard passes, one/ twos, slick passing, little flicks here and there, and virtually taking the f***in Piss, ultimately with Firmino doing one of his no look goals, his hat-trick goal having not scored all season at home,

A 5-0 thrashing at least, and where old Rubber face Hodgeson and his Crystal tip tossers are totally humiliated......and a week later @ the Emptihad....Pep and his pretenders have the privilege of giving us ā€˜The Championsā€™ a very very slow and longgggggg Guardā€™ of Homour.

One of my strongest memories as a young man was the game against leeds in April 73 second to last game more or less a title decider and we won 2-0 Keegan and Cormack the entire ground erupted the Kop was heaving and we new it was our title. I hope we get to win it at Anfield our supporters deserve that special moment and to share it with the team

Haven't stopped thinking about the moment since this Thread was started to be honest. Didn't want to jinx anything but yesterday it hit me really, really hard. Standing outside having a smoke at home, looking up at the beautiful sky and this wave of emotion came over me. Couldn't stop JĆ¼rgen fist pumping and saying to myself, it's F***ing OURS!!!! Started jumping up and down and was just overcome with emotion that I went in the garage and had another F***ing Cone! An almost celebratory cone, thinking...where will I be when it actually happens, will I be at home where I watch every game or do I go to a packed pub in Melbourne? Picturing that moment when that final whistle goes, watching our Supporters flood the field and embrace the Players!! What a F***ing moment that's gonna be!!!!  Just don't accidently injure them please, they have another 8 League games, numerous CL games and FA Cup games to play in.   :D :D :D :D

I've always hated pitch invasions anyway, but at this club we celebrate our achievements properly and allow the players to share the moment with us, not wanting to run for the dressing room. When the time comes, I want to see the fist pumps, the Germanic hands in the air team salute, the organised fireworks show held, if it's at home at night etc. The last thing I want to see is a repeat of the scenes in 1976 at Wolves and worrying about player/fan safety. I don't know if that game actually finished, given there was so many on the pitch after the last goal, I've never seen any footage of the game beyond that point anyway. I know invasions were generally a more regular occurrence in that era, but I would like to think we're a level above that nowadays.

We're all excited, very excited about what is the prize at the finish line, but we're not cavemen who can't stay off a pitch when we win something these days, that's more for the Shrewsburys of the game, to celebrate draws at home against reserve teams. It's not fair on the players and staff, and it's not how we do things here.

I reckon pitch invasions are a bit small time myself, don't think it will happen. I think aesthetically the better image would be all of the players celebrating in front of a capacity KOP, full of scarves and flags, as opposed to a half empty stands with hoards of people on the pitch, having to play Where's Wally to try and spot the players

Or Pulisic? City had to win to delay us, when Willian stepped up for that penalty, it didnā€™t change our situation. Just really killed off City.

Yes, in hindsight I'm glad it's done. I certainly didn't hold back in screaming at my telly for Chelsea to get a result.  :)  - Am glad we were able to put in one of our best performance of the season the night before vs. Palace.

Some players may need a couple of days of fitness training to sweat the alcohol out, but I have no doubt whatsoever that the team will be highly motivated to put in a top performance and earn a victory vs. City next Thursday. Would be a bit more icing on a fantastic cake of a season.

I think we'll beat City with surprising ease, especially with them missing Fernandinio, their defence is really quite poor, Chelsea might be a trickier opponent although I'd fancy us to beat them at Anfield. Its Arsenal away I'm looking forward to, that could be a real goal fest!

Whatever. Donā€™t really care how itā€™s done as long as we achieve the outcome. Red card, penalty or own goal, I donā€™t really care.

Think Divock. Appalling there are still those who think heā€™s not good enough for us despite delivering positive outcomes. Itā€™s doing me head in.

Not a player Iā€™ve cursed more in the last two seasons than Fernandinho, brilliant from cityā€™s point of view obviously but a pain in the backside for us! So very fitting that in the end he was caught out that lead to us winning the league, like when the villain in the movie gets found out in the end.

Weird how Fernandinho gets sent off for an innocuous hand ball, after getting away with 5 or 6 red card incidents throughout the season.

Handball on the line is automatic red as its denying a goal scoring chance.

Willian goal seals the title... Could happen again next time if we got him in a free 🤔

He's missing a CL medal. We could help. Join us on a free and perhaps with a pay cut if Michael Edwards is negotiating... ;D

If he's on a free I'd actually take him for a year. Think he'd be a sound squad player!
