Maybe our toughest match of the season to date. Definitely Atletico's toughest match.

I would have no problem with a scoreless draw in this game. A score draw would be better.

      NB: Team no longer available

I have gone for us to win 2-1 and that should give us a nice cushion to bring back to Anfield.

Toughest game so far was Wolves away, I don't see this being harder, I actually think we win this 2-0.

One of, if not the best defensive side on the planet over the last 5 or 6 years. They've lost their mojo a bit lately though and aren't the team they were 2 or 3 seasons ago. Would have been interesting to have played that side from back then, just to see how both teams dealt with each other, but of course on the other hand I'm very happy we're not, as they were a brilliant side & would have caused us more problems than this one will.

Think we'll win 0-1 or 0-2. Can't see them carving out many chances against our defence with a frontline of Morata and an aging Diego Costa. If they still had Greizmann I'd have been a bit more worried but I think our defence is good enough to cope with whatever they throw at us

They seem to be in quite a poor run of form and I think they have a few injuries as well. Obviously no complacency in the CL but I do feel we will be to strong for them.

No doubt they'll raise their game for us given the occasion but you're right, even if they manage to muster an extra 5% I don't think it will be enough for them

Not watched them recently. See they are, or were recently, 4 th in laliga so no slouches. Will be tough at theirs, just hope our high line doesn’t get to enthusiastic if we haven’t scored before the 70th minute, and over do it, leaving acres of space behind.
Apart from that, I don’t think they’ll get many opportunities.
Could possibly nick one from s set piece or something, but I’m confident we’re good for 2.
So 2:1 to the red men it is 😊

Any idea if Costa is gonna play for them? They'll play with 2 banks of 4 (well, they always do), so Hendo and Gini have a big task in carrying the ball forward more frequently to create chances for us. Wouldnt be surprised if we alternate between a regular 4-4-2 and a 4-4-2 diamond, with our usual starters.

      Alisson
      Trent Joe Virg Robbo
      Hendo Fab Gini Mane
      Mo Bobby

      which could turn into

      Alisson
      Trent Joe Virg Robbo
      Fab
      Hendo Gini

      Mo Mane

Think Fab will come back into this for Keita and surely Mane will start . These have had some poor form of late and with a few injuries score draw the minimum we should be taking from this

Can't say I've watched Atletico this season.  They've had a day extra off having played on Friday and are at home so they do have those technical advantages but not sure they are as good as the team that got to a couple of Champions League finals.

It's a tougher than possibly expected draw for the last 16 but I'm sure Atletico wanted to see a lot of other teams rather than us.  I expect us to beat them over two legs but I don't expect it to be by a big margin.

I'd take a score draw but I hope the players do get a result going back to that stadium.  I'm a big fan of Divock Origi getting some game time (off the bench) there as well.

Taking nothing for granted but a 2-0 away result would be brilliant, one of the hardest teams in the competition, be nice for the lads to revisit where they picked up the 6th Cup & May give us that extra motivation if it was ever needed.

      Klopp v Simeone

He was certainly one of the names in the running at the time.  Simeone must now be one of the longest serving managers in the Champions League.

The way La Liga has opened up a little bit over the past couple of years he probably feels there is a real chance to get them another title at some point.

Their problem this season (and over the last few as well) is they don't score enough goals.  25 goals in 24 league games.  Too many draws (10) and 5 of them 0-0's.

If you look at the AM squad, there isn't one of them that would make the LFC squad.

Must apply to the vast majority of teams on the planet.

At the time of the draw I said this was the worst possible draw for both teams. Maybe their recent form makes it a little better for us but they will still be a tough challenge.

Fab and Mane for Ox and Keita will be the only changes I think.

I wonder about Divock just now. I'm a big fan of his too, but I'm starting to think this is his final season with us. I see the club is releasing a documentary about him, the timing of which seems a bit odd to me. Of course he's seemed out of the reckoning before and came back to score a few of the biggest goals in recent history, but Jürgen seems to prefer Ox as the chief sub in the forward line just now.

Won't be easy by any means.AM are a top club, battling against the might of the two giants, Real & Barca and they have a proud tradition. Trippier was a good signing for them. Morata, also, maybe the Prem was a bit to physical for him, not so Diego Costa but he might be injured.

I expect a midfield of Fabio,Hendo and Gini. Naby will be in contention but might just miss out. Got to keep it tight, protect the back 4 and take our chances when they come. High energy and press the space at every opportunity.

Under Simeone they have never lost a home game (8 wins 4 draws) in the UCL knockout round, as much as they have been disappointing in La Liga they are going to be a difficult match up for us.

As for the line-up I would expect Fabinho back in the middle and Mane out on the left. Big thing here is to get an away goal or two, given their issues with scoring we can get a couple it will open things up which can only play in to our hands.

Tough game away for the lads tonight. Just have to look at their home record in the CL recently. Whoever lines out for them, Simeone will be looking for a result.
Presume Fab and Mane will start, Sadio looked sharp at the weekend. Back 5 and front 3 pick themselves, so would go Hendo/Fab/Gini in the middle.
What a place to be in, 25 points clear in the PL, still in the FA cup and off to Spain tonight for a CL tie.

I really want to do this Live thread, my five-a-side is in the middle :(

We need to be disciplined but creative to have success. However, who am I to tell Klopp :D

Can you do it now, and get the mods to lock it until this evening (and add the team) ?

It's become one of the things I look forwards to on match days :)

Tough game ahead gone for a 1  1 draw in the prediction league.

Had 1-1 down but just made the fatal mistake of changing it to 3-1 to us.

It's a shame the Dortmund - PSG game is on at the same time.  Wednesday's games look average.

Need to make sure we up our performance compared to recent away games in the competition.

Going to be a tough team to beat.

Some random numbers as I count down to kickoff.

In these last three seasons we've played 34 matches in the European Cup, winning 22, drawing 5 and losing 7. In those games we've scored 87 goals and conceded 39. That's padded by a couple of 7-0 wins in the group stage in the 17-18 campaign.

Bottom line is, our intrinsic Liverpool-supporter nature of being apprehensive before games aside, we are really good in this competition. Yes, the opposition are good as well, that's what this competition is supposed to be - the best of the best - but WE are REALLY, REALLY, GOOD.

Come on the defending Champions of Europe!

Could be and it will be interesting to see how we deal with a top spanish club. I always prefer the away leg first.I think they will be a bit cautious from the off. They won't necessarily throw everything at us just in case they get caught out by our pace on the counter. Think they will build pressure, with the hope of a goal within 20-25 minute mark.

They might see TAA as being the slightly weaker and attack down his side. Hendo and Joe will back up TAA who will have to hold his position a lot more than usual. We might sit deep, let them come on and go for the quick break away. Think we can score be surprised if we don't.

      1-2...0-2..

Get an away goal and stay in the tie. We have proven time and again that If we can get back to Anfield still in the tie (sometimes even out of it) we can get through.

Wouldn't be too gutted with a 1-1/2-1 loss.

      Would take 0-3 though too.

Even at 3-0, no problem. Just that some of us might be uncomfortable. After last year's semi with Barca. No team is a big problem.

Really really looking forward to this, at long long last we are playing a side that will test us, I believe we’ve had it relatively easy to date although we have had one or two testing moments that were more down to us not being quite at the races,

Atleti have quite a tight defence so I believe and can proffer some excitement going forward, enough to have us concerned at the very least, However, they don’t come across teams like us in la liga although Barca do do a very poor impression, so good old Diego and his pedigree chums will be very worried about facing us knowing that we are relentless, unforgiving, don’t and won’t give up regardless of their exuberance and are currently the best team this side of Jupiter.

I think our boys will relish the chance of taking on Atlei in their own back yard and of course will reminisce the lifting of ‘Ol Big Ears’ in this very stadium, fond memories indeed, I can see it being quite tight first half with each side cancelling each other out, but second half we will be dominant, our fitness will be key so I can see us winning 1-2 maybe 1-3.

First serious step towards No 7, get through this tie and I believe we will go all the way, Again.

Try looking for Sony Six, or Sony ESPN. That's where the game would be.
