Maybe our toughest match of the season to date. Definitely Atletico's toughest match.

I would have no problem with a scoreless draw in this game. A score draw would be better.

      NB: Team no longer available

Subs: Adrian, Lovren, Milner, Lallana, Keita, Oxlaide-Chamberlain, Origi

I have gone for us to win 2-1 and that should give us a nice cushion to bring back to Anfield.

Toughest game so far was Wolves away, I don't see this being harder, I actually think we win this 2-0.

One of, if not the best defensive side on the planet over the last 5 or 6 years. They've lost their mojo a bit lately though and aren't the team they were 2 or 3 seasons ago. Would have been interesting to have played that side from back then, just to see how both teams dealt with each other, but of course on the other hand I'm very happy we're not, as they were a brilliant side & would have caused us more problems than this one will.

Think we'll win 0-1 or 0-2. Can't see them carving out many chances against our defence with a frontline of Morata and an aging Diego Costa. If they still had Greizmann I'd have been a bit more worried but I think our defence is good enough to cope with whatever they throw at us

They seem to be in quite a poor run of form and I think they have a few injuries as well. Obviously no complacency in the CL but I do feel we will be to strong for them.

No doubt they'll raise their game for us given the occasion but you're right, even if they manage to muster an extra 5% I don't think it will be enough for them

Not watched them recently. See they are, or were recently, 4 th in laliga so no slouches. Will be tough at theirs, just hope our high line doesn’t get to enthusiastic if we haven’t scored before the 70th minute, and over do it, leaving acres of space behind.
Apart from that, I don’t think they’ll get many opportunities.
Could possibly nick one from s set piece or something, but I’m confident we’re good for 2.
So 2:1 to the red men it is 😊

Any idea if Costa is gonna play for them? They'll play with 2 banks of 4 (well, they always do), so Hendo and Gini have a big task in carrying the ball forward more frequently to create chances for us. Wouldnt be surprised if we alternate between a regular 4-4-2 and a 4-4-2 diamond, with our usual starters.

      Alisson
      Trent Joe Virg Robbo
      Hendo Fab Gini Mane
      Mo Bobby

      which could turn into

      Alisson
      Trent Joe Virg Robbo
      Fab
      Hendo Gini
      Bobby
      Mo Mane

Think Fab will come back into this for Keita and surely Mane will start . These have had some poor form of late and with a few injuries score draw the minimum we should be taking from this

Can't say I've watched Atletico this season.  They've had a day extra off having played on Friday and are at home so they do have those technical advantages but not sure they are as good as the team that got to a couple of Champions League finals.

It's a tougher than possibly expected draw for the last 16 but I'm sure Atletico wanted to see a lot of other teams rather than us.  I expect us to beat them over two legs but I don't expect it to be by a big margin.

I'd take a score draw but I hope the players do get a result going back to that stadium.  I'm a big fan of Divock Origi getting some game time (off the bench) there as well.

Taking nothing for granted but a 2-0 away result would be brilliant, one of the hardest teams in the competition, be nice for the lads to revisit where they picked up the 6th Cup & May give us that extra motivation if it was ever needed.

It's a tough match but like others, I think we'll win 2-1 - at the very least, we'll get an away goal.

My main man  v my second main man as choices when Rodgers went.

      Klopp v Simeone

Should be good.  I'll take a score draw over there.

If you look at the AM squad, there isn't one of them that would make the LFC squad. Reds to win 0-2

      Klopp v Simeone

He was certainly one of the names in the running at the time.  Simeone must now be one of the longest serving managers in the Champions League.

The way La Liga has opened up a little bit over the past couple of years he probably feels there is a real chance to get them another title at some point.

Their problem this season (and over the last few as well) is they don't score enough goals.  25 goals in 24 league games.  Too many draws (10) and 5 of them 0-0's.

If you look at the AM squad, there isn't one of them that would make the LFC squad.

Must apply to the vast majority of teams on the planet.

Their last 4 league games have seen them:

      Win-1
      Draw-2
      Lose-1

      Scored-3
      Conceded-3

i hear they may have injuries to their forwards, which should make life a bit easier.  Will be a tough game, but we should win.

      0-2.

At the time of the draw I said this was the worst possible draw for both teams. Maybe their recent form makes it a little better for us but they will still be a tough challenge.

Fab and Mane for Ox and Keita will be the only changes I think.

I wonder about Divock just now. I'm a big fan of his too, but I'm starting to think this is his final season with us. I see the club is releasing a documentary about him, the timing of which seems a bit odd to me. Of course he's seemed out of the reckoning before and came back to score a few of the biggest goals in recent history, but Jürgen seems to prefer Ox as the chief sub in the forward line just now.
