I'm not quite getting the level of outrage over this one. That 80% furlough offer from the govt is not just for smaller businesses. It is for all businesses who have temporarily ceased operations due to the pandemic.

There is a different, but related issue here, about the players wages. Said it the other day on another thread - the players should be donating a big chunk of their wages to the NHS. Do that and I have no great problem with the club claiming the furlough money off the state for the non-playing staff.

Because why are we the tax payer having to pay billionaires staff? And why should colleagues of billionaires be forced to use a scheme that takes 5 weeks to go through, once they finally manage to get through the process?

Told you again and again were owned by skinflints fed up saying it

Totally agree, proving FSG only in it, to line their own pockets, at the expense of the ordinary working man, including the many loyal fans.

On your first point - cos that is the implication of the scheme the govt announced to help businesses through the pandemic. If you are losing money cos you can't operate during the pandemic, you can get the govt to pay 80% of the wages of the staff that don't have any work to do cos of the pandemic.

Most people were pretty happy with that scheme when it was announced. I know I was - I can't wait for my employer to tell me I can take 3 weeks off on full pay, wish they'd get on with it to be honest. If you think the scheme is a bad one and that the taxpayer shouldn't be subsidising big business through this full stop, fair enough. But there was no real outrage about this scheme at the time. I don't get why it's suddenly so bad when it applies to LFC as opposed to every other business, big and small, that is using it.

      Question for you sore monad.

If you had a company that made 45 million profit in one year would you take advantage of the furlough scheme ?.

Big businesses like ours should not be using it full stop.

That's an odd reaction to being off work during this to be honest.

I've been furloughed since last Wednesday and I'm far from happy about it and my staff are the same when I've spoke to them. Great that we can be at home and limit the spread but to say you can't wait for it is a strange reaction in my book.

Remember there will be people that either will never have a job to go back to as the business will close or when they do get back it will be far from the normal we are used to for quite a while.

I’ve had all day to stew over it now and I’m still as bitter and disappointed as I was when I woke up to the news this morning. Massive own goal and never in the ethos of my club I thought a kick in the teeth for Klopp also. Make no bones about it this club is where it is now because of him. The whole corona thing and this now just taken the shine away from all the important football stuff for me.

      Gutted.

Man city now saying they wont be furloughing staff

Maybe or maybe not a reaction to us using the scheme but now a PR win for them to top our PR own goal

You still have some league 2 clubs who haven't used the scheme yet a club like ours built on our principles have

      Cu*ts

Title will mean less even if the season continues for me
Once and for all these lot have shown they dont get 'it'

Very surprised we've done this, the majority of non playing staff wages would be a piss in the ocean to a top PL club, poor from FSG this...

Woke up this morning still gutted we've done this.

Our owners have transformed us on the pitch but they really do not understand this club off it.

Agree with you, but it is fair to say Klopp has transformed the team on the pitch.

It’s a disgrace that they have now tarnished our club with its great socialist ,caring reputation by doing this . Shame on them . Personally I am fuming about it .

What has taken them years to build up, ie a reputation as good decent owners, they have managed to trash completely with this. Not only their reputation, but the reputation of this great club of ours. They are custodians, and Shanks, Bob and Joe must be turning in their graves! There is still time to revert this decision, but it has to be done ASAP if they are to salvage anything from this PR disaster!

Club could easily pay these guys for the period, how much interest is their wealth gathering a day? The opposite decision would have been a massive gesture. Sad day for our club and more ammunition to the haters.

I can't say I'm surprised.  Businesses almost always only look at the bottom line.  We are seeing the same sh*t here in the USA -- companies being bailed out by tax payer money, then turning around and laying off staff to help cut costs.  It would make me sad/mad if I wasn't already completely desensitized to it....

Wrong it's either Mike Gordon or the other yank down in London, Peter Moores is about as scouse as Jimmy Tarbuck, but he ain't the head fella in charge.

I'm saying it's no coincidence that the clubs moral compass has changed since we have had American owners

Peter Moores also has dual citizenship and is very americanised in his outlook having spent most of his adult life living and working there
