Best post-war manager of all time
      Apr 26, 2020 12:42:15 pm
The BBC running a poll on this. Slur Alex is winning at the moment. We're represented by Shanks, King Kenny and Sir Bob. I voted Paisley. Bit of fun, but somebody needs to stop Fergie running away with it!

Alf Ramsay can do one. Luckily he was managing after the war otherwise that linesman would have probably ruled the third goal out!  ;D

Ferguson will win that vote, because what he did will have stuck more in people's minds with it being recent. Tbf also no other manager since has got anywhere close to winning the league for the mancs ;)

The absolute greats for me are Shankly, Busby, Stein and Paisley.

Gentlemen and what they did for British football won't be matched.

It's a pointless argument. Sir Alex will definitely run away with it. 13 League titles alone is enough to put him top of that list

But three Europan cups during his time makes Paisley better!

Still a lot to learn young one.

Plus btw we don't have ultras on the kop, scallies yes, ultras no!!  ;)

Always laugh at the fact Busby used to play & Captain Liverpool

A good wind up to remind the mancs that the road which leads up to their stadium is named after a Liverpool captain

Wasn't until he died tbh a lot of Liverpool fans my age cottoned on to the fact Busby played and captained the reds.

Liverpool made a concerted effort as there was a national minutes silence for Busby and didn't want divvies ruining it. Bits in the proey & echo about Busby.

A lot of older reds also mentioned how he was great mates with Shankly and if we sullied Busby's memory, we were sullying Shankly's memory etc etc.

Guess it depends on what a person values more. If you asked someone who had a better previous season Klopp or Pep, it would depend on what they value more: 1 Champions League or a treble, Beating PSG, Bayern and Barca or dominating England domestically.

Wouldn’t say that. It took him a long time to achieve that. It’s certainly not at the level of Bob wining 6 leagues and 3 European cups in 9 years.

Fergie will win it, hands down and it’s a pointless poll to even be running because a lot of people seem to have forgotten football existed before the Premier League and Fergie dominating it.

Fergie wins these things as if there isn't a debate to be had. Sure, he was a great manager domestically. His longevity is pretty unique, his ability to build excellent teams almost seamlessly over two decades is a great achievement. Yet his record in Europe is really bad considering the number of years he competed, the funds he had and the pulling power of the club. Nor did he evolve football in any way, create any particular style for others to follow.

As much as I hate to admit it it probably is Ferguson. to win that many titles and regenerate the team so many times is quite incredible when you think about it.

      Ferguson will win.
Probably rightly so. He was quite fortunate that the English throne was vacant. We had already decayed and nobody else had earned the right to own it. But united certainly took it for their own. 13 league title, numerous domestic cups and two champions leagues are a great tally.

But remember also that he won league titles and a European trophy with Aberdeen before that. That was probably his greatest achievement.

The legendry Bill Shankly, who achieved such a lot for the club & Matt Busby, both deserve a mention in this topic. Especially Bill Shankly who brought in so many players, that helped lay the foundation to our success.

Its s grest achievment. But he was there 25 years or omething... Sir Bib done it all in 9...no comparison for me. If Bob was a press man in his day and not so humble he would be spoken of a lot more highly by non Liverpool people....6 championships and 3 European cups in 9 years plus 3 in a row league cups while winning leagues and European cups...wrap it up the mans number 1 no matter what any poll says
