Still don’t see how he is even a need. We have a player like this already, his name is Naby Keita.

By people you mean me, so say it instead of being snide.

I didn’t say I believed he was set for PSG, it was highlighting how the reports have suddenly changed from apparently being set for us, hence why I put “Apparently he is set for PSG now
Not at all, mate. I just meant the general frenzy in this thread about disregarding a source when it's claiming a player is coming to us but then act as if the same source(s) was perfectly credible when it's saying the same player is heading somewhere else.

I genuinely didn't specifically mean you, I was just having a go at the pessimistic approach a lot of people are showing in this thread (which is fine by me, but I kinda get lost in the Why and How the same sources grant two diametracally opposed reactions, based on what they say, in this thread)

So we all gonna be honest and say FSG aren't giving us any transfer funds in the next six weeks?

I’m going to be honest and say that Klopp and Edwards will have players in mind and they are waiting to see what happens with the markets and the level of funds coming into the club

If money is there from the income to spend and Klopp and his team find a player they want then they will spend the money.

I just think they've made a stance over the furlough/covid stuff and are sticking to it, situation may change season after next.

I agree in some sense , we all know that the club works self sufficient and we are going to lose a sh*t load of money due to the loss of matchday revenue and corporate events. So I suspect any money spent will be from selling the likes of Wilson and Grujic etc

He was bossing the midfield. He is a top quality player, no doubt about that.

Still don’t think it happens though, unfortunately.

Watching him yesterday he plays in the exact same role as Fabinho - why spend all those wages on an injury prone player when we already have a top quality player there

There is a theory that Fabinho is going to be used at cb next season from time to time

      Lallana has gone

I think that's why there has been talk around a new midfielder

Personally I think the Thiago link is nothing more than an easy link and there isn't much in it at all. The link being he seemingly wanted it and Jürgen has spoken of him of being one of the top two midfielders in the Bundesliga

It doesnt fit into our model really

What theory is that ? We have Gomez at CB

And Lallana has already been replace by Jones in the squad

The talk of Thiago has come from German journalists only and fed by Thiagos team

Yeah I don't get how he fits in here (which is why we won't sign him) but he's an absolute gem of a player.

Top three in the world in his position for sure.

But we have lost lovren and its genuinely perceived we need 4

I'm not saying hes going there as first choice so stop being obtuse

The second bit is essentially the same thing I said 👍

According to various reports we're linked to Thiago.

I think he'd improve the team but he's very similar in attributes to Keita. However if Gini doesn't sign a new deal he'd be a good signing.

      And he's 29....

      What do we think?

I think that he still has at least 2-3 good years to play.

I'd like him to come, he's got that Genga about him, JK can switch if needed. Lets face it, everyone will be gunning for us, so if we have a different strategy, and change it, when we come unstuck, another option could work.

28m being quoted ?? Wow if we can’t afford that plus the whopping 11m on the Greek lad then I’ll be amazed.

Champions of everything, New Nike sponsorship deal and still we can’t lay out 40m?

I'd say he fits in no problem to be honest.

He's a quality footballer who would add to any midfield and easily could see him in our midfield three.

      Don't think we will though.

I see all the noise still being generated from Germany - it’s looking like Thiago is desperate for a move somewhere.

I think it’s clear the club wouldn’t be interested in him for a few reasons

We already have 7 centre mids fighting for 3 spots

He is currently on £205k a week - that’s more than anyone else in our squad

His age/injury issues - he is 29 and has had a number of serious issues plus a lot of niggling ones , if he was 23 then the club would look at him

When you add all that in plus the intensity we play with then I really can’t see the club being interested in and with all the talk being imo generated by Thiagos agents etc it makes sense

His wages would be astronomical most likely. Just like Werner. We obviously aren’t going for players that require high wages right off the bat. And especially a player like this that’s somewhat injury prone and hitting or past his peak age wise.

Not that bothered about Thiago if we keep Gini which I expect we will.

If Thiago was 3 years younger and not injury prone I would be mad for us to sign him.
