Champions of England v Chelsea - Wednesday 22nd July - 20.15 GMT KO
      Jul 18, 2020 12:14:25 pm
Wednesday 22nd July 2020, at roughly 22.30 GMT, will be the coronation of the new kings of England
(I hear there may also be some sort football match taking place before the ceremony)

It will have been 11,041 since Liverpool FC were last awarded the English League trophy by the time Jordan Henderson raises the newer (& considerably uglier IMO) Premier League title above his head on Wednesday night. Since then seven different managers have tried & failed to win back our rightful crown. Some got agonisingly close, some were just agonising to watch (ahem, Hodgson). Jürgen Klopp is the eighth managerial appointment since Kenny Dalglish stepped down with a few months remaining of the 1991 season, at the time of his resignation, LFC were three points clear at the top of the league table. I imagine many supporters at the time thought it would only be a matter of months until Liverpool got their hands back on the title. Technically, it was. 353 months to be exact, so it's quite fitting that Kenny will be there to coronate Jürgen & the rest of the lads with their medals on Wednesday evening.

Feelings about next Wednesday are strange. Obviously we've got to play a football match against a very good team, and nobody likes to see Liverpool lose, but I imagine a lot of us will have our eyes on the clock urging the 90 minutes to be over and done with as quickly as possible (a bit like me in work at 3.30PM on a Friday), so that the celebrations can begin. A bizarre, foreign feeling for those of us who have not yet been lucky enough to witness Liverpool FC lift a league title - Like going into a cup final you know you've already won. I hope the lads put in a good performance and I hope we do beat Chelsea by a comfortable margin (even if it does mean helping out United's top four ambitions!) but these lads owe us absolutely nothing more this season, and we owe them everything. The level they've performed at on a consistent basis for the last 24 - 36 months has been incredible. Any performance or result will not change the fact that we're the current European, World and English champions.

Taking the Thursday off work and luckily managed to book a table at the Sandon for this one (a pub 100 metres or so from the Kop) with a few mates I've not seen since lockdown began. Not sure if we'll be watching the trophy lift, or even the game for that matter. Depending on how the evening pans we out could easily end up spending the whole 90 minutes (and a few hours afterwards) creating an atmosphere for the players inside the stadium, I know a few others are intending on doing this. So I wouldn't bother with the artificial crowd noise for this one! Wherever you are, make sure the beer & champagne is flowing. Liverpool FC are champions of England (and the Europe... and the World)

This must be the least I've cared about a Liverpool game. Just absolutely buzzing already to see us lift the trophy on the Kop.

Going to head back home to watch it with my old man who I haven't seen since this Covid kicked off. Predicting a lot of beers and a lot of tears!

Where have they put the fences up? Have they blocked off Walton Breck Rd?

No just around the ground, so no entrance to main stand

Oh, thought you meant they were planning on blocking the roads off

Only going to be staying round the Kop / Breck Rd end anyway so that's not an issue. Reckon those fences will have probably been scaled by about 9 o'clock anyway  ;D

It would be nice to see us win but I am just giddy thinking about watching Henderson lift the trophy and the boys go nuts.

Line-up selection I would think be another good opportunity to give both Jones and Williams to show what they can do along with Ketia and Minamino.

      -------------------Alisson----------------
      Williams----Gomez----VvD------Robbo
      --------Jones----Fabinho---Ketia-------
      --Salah---------Minamino------Mane---

Subs: Adrian, Lovren, TAA, Gini, Ox, Elliot, Origi, Shaqiri, Firmino

I think he deserves the shot, and in a low risk game like this I believe he could team up with Milner quite well.

why not play him instead of Milner then, what is it with people not wanting to play Keita???

As for the match I have a funny feeling we'll beat them with a good margin, I think the lads are hurting a bit from the two recent results and they'll want to win well before lifting the trophy.
Another factor is that Chelsea only have 2 days off now before they play us whereas we've had a full week to prepare and refocus.

I am wondering what the trophy lift will really be like this time, with all the dynamics at work.

Is it a given that thousand will go to A field, climb the fences, break out the pyro, etc. ?

I mean, none of it is spontaneous at this point, will that make it different when it happens?

Of course, nothing takes away from the joy and satisfaction of winning the title. The outpouring we saw the moment we clinched was undeniable.

Just wondering.after 30 years what it will really be like Wednesday night.

Be thousands outside on Wednesday night - potentially more than the night we won the title as people have had the opportunity to plan & book time off work etc. The night we won the league was solely just local support who lived within close proximity of the ground

Obviously with the COVID situation most pubs around Anfield are making you book ahead for Wednesday as it makes it easier for them to manage capacity. A lot of pubs I looked at last week were already fully booked, presume there'll be crowds who will just be singing outside and won't bother watching the game too

Club, SofS and Liverpool City Council with joint statement asking people to not gather at Anfield.

Merseyside Police is working with Liverpool FC, Liverpool City Council and Spirit of Shankly ahead of this week's game against Chelsea at Anfield. Together we are urging fans to watch the game at home and keep themselves, their families, friends and neighbours safe.

The game is the final Liverpool FC home match of the season, and kicks off behind closed doors at Anfield at 8.15pm BST on Wednesday (July 22), following which the Premier League trophy will be lifted.

Assistant chief constable Natalie Perischine said: “This is such an important night for all Liverpool fans in the city and worldwide, with the Premier League trophy to be lifted inside the stadium. The club and TV companies have made careful preparations to ensure that millions of people can enjoy these special moments on screen, in the comfort of their homes.

“On this occasion, the best seat in the house is in your living room. There is simply no benefit to going to the ground and we as a city cannot afford for people to gather in large numbers.

“We are all still in unprecedented times due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the last thing anyone wants is a resurgence of cases in Merseyside, with every life lost a tragedy. The last thing anyone wants is for all Merseyside’s patience and selflessness to unravel and for lockdown measures to be reintroduced, as we have seen in other areas.”

Matt Ashton, director of public health at Liverpool City Council, said: “This week, Liverpool Football Club will celebrate their magnificent achievements in what has undoubtedly been a standout but strange season. We know fans will be eager to celebrate Liverpool FC lifting the Premier League trophy but they need to do this responsibly. The coronavirus is still in circulation within our communities so it is vital that we continue to avoid large gatherings, to protect each other, our families and the NHS. The threat of a second lockdown is very real. Fortunately, the trophy ceremony is free to watch on TV. Hopefully the city will be able to mark this achievement more publicly in the near future. Until then, avoid any big crowds and enjoy the Reds being crowned Premier League champions.”

Joe Blott, chair of Spirit of Shankly, said: “This week Jordan Henderson will finally lift the Premier League trophy. Spirit of Shankly wish to congratulate him, the team, and Jürgen Klopp and his management team on this fantastic achievement.

“I desperately want to see the trophy lift and I understand how hard and frustrating it is to stay away from Anfield but I also know it is one of the most deprived areas in Europe with significant health inequalities. The overwhelming majority of fans have so far heeded public health advice and I hope supporters will continue to stay at home and not put themselves or others at risk unnecessarily.”

Peter Moore, chief executive officer of Liverpool FC, said: “Our priority remains on the health and wellbeing of our people, the local community and supporters.

“We know that winning the Premier League is bringing joy to fans during these challenging times but it’s critical that we all get behind the city’s public health advice to keep Liverpool safe.

“The Premier League trophy presentation will be happening inside the stadium and, contrary to reports, nothing is happening outside of the stadium. When the time is right, we will all come together to celebrate but, for now, we are asking fans to keep themselves and their families safe by celebrating at home.”

ACC Perischine continued: “As with any normal match, a comprehensive and appropriate policing operation has been put in place ahead of Wednesday’s game. We’ll have officers on duty at the ground and surrounding area and they will be supported by specialist resources including the Dog Section and mounted police. We will also have a wider city policing plan in place throughout the night, which is standard procedure.

“We will also have additional measures we can introduce if necessary, including road management and Dispersal Orders, and this is again to ensure that people are kept safe and discouraged from the risks of gathering.

“Unfortunately, as we have seen throughout the lockdown period, members of the public haven’t adhered to the regulations in place. But this is our opportunity to all show the rest of the country, and the world, why this city is revered for its ability to come together in challenging times and do the right thing.”

Talk cheap by the council Robby, it simply isn't happening. Probably be many arrested but just can't be helped under the circumstances. I'll guesstimate 15,000 +

Will fall on deaf ears, beaches have been packed out for months, pubs and restaurants are back open, packed planes are taking people on holiday. People aren't not going to celebrate the first title in 30 years, especially during the current non-existent phase of the lockdown. 3 months ago I think people probably would, but certainly not now

Yes where is the surge in cases from those crowded beaches, I thought it was supposed to be a disaster. The truth is that its probably is more or less safe these days but everyone needs to still be careful and vigilant, but there is sod all chance of that happening tonight.

I just hope that the knuckle draggers don't let us down yet again. The Press has had enough opportunities to knock us over the years. Let's not give them yet another chance. I am so proud of my team, but not so much all of the supporters. (Yes, I know the idiots  are only a very small portion of the supporters, but as they say "a bad apple in the barrel rots the rest.")

We are the Champions..........(I've waited thirty years to be able to say that. Only seen it fifteen times in total.)

Biggest worry is dickheads bringing fireworks. Flares and smoke grenades are on the whole safe and add to the atmosphere but fireworks are a recipe for disaster. Worst thing I saw from that Pier Head carryon the other week wasn't the Liverbuilding on fire it was a video of the stray firework (fired by the same dickhead) which came about half a foot away from hitting a crowd of people at 100 odd MPH

Chances are the next day's papers will be full of the minority setting of the fireworks along with the flares.

Watching Klopp in today's presser with Merseyside Police. I get the impression that they are all saying the requisite things but it's kind of understood people are going to do what they want to do, as largely has been happening in many places. People either don't believe what the scientists are saying or they just don't care.

If Merseyside police stand by what their saying  there will be over 10,000 arrest.  ;D Obviously just scare mongering tactics.  :lmao: Like I've said before impossible to police and  hard to condemn ( even though wrong ) those wanting to go too the ground and celebrate.

Hopefully Salah manages to start sticking the ball in the net again. 2 goals in the last 5 or 6 games is pretty poor for him, especially when you take into account them 2 goals came in the same game.

Saying that, hopefully we can keep the ball out of our own net too.

I've been lucky enough in my life to watch LIVERPOOL lift the 1st division trophy many times, but after a 30 year lull, this one will be very special indeed, especially Jordan being presented with the trophy by King Kenny and on the KOP.

But before all that we have a game to win and hopefully we have our heads screwed on and our feet in gear to get a couple of goals against the chavs, I always love being at Anfield on the last home game of the season to say thank you to the team as they walk round the pitch and wave to the fans for all their support throughout the season, tomorrow will feel so strange in lots of ways but I'm hoping the lads can rise to the occasion and give us all a good game to watch.

Obviously Chelsea still have a lot to play for. They can't just play for fun and we need to win to crown it off. Irrespective it's going to be a momentous historic night. Surreal in many ways, not the way we would've wanted the presentation but it'll be unique and amazing moment.

The fans celebration has to be muted slightly but the pride and joy and will be no less diminished. Think this club appreciates and values the supporters more than most clubs and they know how difficult it will be to stiffle the celebration. The club and the game are so much part of the lives of millions of LFC fans. Just hope everyone enjoys the night and celebrates within the current guidlines.

Geninuely asking, does it really matter what Chelsea do tonight for you? Even if they beat us all you need to do is win the earlier game against West Ham and avoid defeat to a Leicester side that have been pretty terrible of late.

Geninuely asking, does it really matter what Chelsea do tonight for you? Even if they beat us all you need to do is win the earlier game against West Ham and avoid defeat to a Leicester side that have been pretty terrible of late.

Basically another permutation into getting top 4. If we both win we go above Chavs. It also means we don't necessary have to beat Leicester as Chavs could lose or draw to Wolves who are fighting for Europa place.

You just need to win your next 2 games, its all in your own hands.

Obviously you have a vested interest in our game but if you beat WH probably in as you have better GD than Leicester. I see you and the creative accountants made a mess of an all Manchester FA cup final. Moyes needs the points as well and he'd love to put the boot in.

As I'm totally impartial to United I'll go...Mancheater United 0 West Ham United 46.

Goal difference is same so it goes on most goals and they have more. However, if we can win 3-0 4-0 then that should be gone enough.

      46 - 0  :lmao: why not 47-0

Maybe they should stop the guard of honours? One was enough. I feel like it gives the opposition extra motivation - we have only won once since we became champions (and Brighton gave us a really a good game)

Lets smash these and end on a high.  ;D ;D

Still on lockdown where I am with a government enforced booze ban in place, so watching us sober on an internet stream was not my idea of how I would finally see us lift the title!

Regardless, hope we batter the chavs and then see Hendo do his shuffle.

Chances are the next day's papers will be full of the minority setting of the fireworks along with the flares.

Yep, need to be extra careful, we don’t want it to kick off, or we could be accused of pissing on the feds & robbing the injured, we’ve experienced those kind of bullshit headlines before from dubious Media

I see Chelsea have put out all the 'slip' videos again on social media. Classy.

Quite looking forward to smashing a few past these cu*ts now.

Yep, but they  conveniently forget the great JT slipping during the penalty shootout  against the MUtants, I think in the‘09’’ CL final, Keith, help me out here, It’s right isn’t it ?  handing them big ears, I’ll never forget those JT tears 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂

Predicted 2-1 to the red men. Hoping it happens, or even a bigger margin, but something tells me their minds will be elsewhere.
Wouldn’t be surprised if we lose to be honest, and wouldn’t care much under the circumstances.
Let’s get it done and get our hands on the trophy 👊🏻👍🏻💪🏆🍺
