Think he should be starting more often than not from now until the end of the season. He's getting sharper and looks pissed off that he's not scoring, anger that's sure to be released on somebody soon. Unlike Diaz and Darwin in that position, we know Diogo's got the goals in him, and the manager will need to help him find a way of doing so in his system.

A lot will depend on what happens with Mo, if he stays then the others can be replaced and it already looks like the offers will arrive for Diaz and Nunez in the summer and Jota won't be short of offers either if we're alerting agents he can be sold.

We should be looking to bring in 4-5 players at the minimum that can set us up for the next 4-5 years.

They aren’t going to sell 3 of the forward players ffs

Agree mate. If Diogo can hit the goal trail that will help massively.

For me though the biggest issue is the defence, the protection infront of it and our inability to control games of football.

The midfield. The perennial issue. The neglected issue in summer '22 (dsspite that press conference when Klopp tried to allay fears we were short) that cost him his last two seasons.

We have done remarkably well so far this season as we are playing without a natural DM, plus the lack of depth (4 for 3 places).

We don't have the personnel in midfield to be tight defensively, and we don't have the numbers to ensure freshness. None of them (bar Dom who is advanced) are athletes, none of them are defensive minded.

We have endo. I dont care if he isnt going to be here next season. He should have been used more. He is defensive minded. Hes a no6. He anticipates danger. He closes the spaces. He disrupts. He makes interceptions and does the dirty work. And he like jones and elliott should be fresh. Cant flog the same 3 week in week out.

Think Diogo will be heavily motivated to get on the scoresheet tomorrow after the Journalist revealed to him in the press conference, that tomorrow marks 4 years since the last time he scored in the CL.

Jota looked taken a back and you could see in his eyes he wants to change that tomorrow!!!

I’m taken aback by that never mind him.

I’ve always liked Jota but you look back at his stats and they are somewhat underwhelming. A big part of it of course is that his time here has been stop/start and therefore he has very rarely been able to gather any momentum with an extended run in the team.

But it probably does reach a point where you realise that has got to be expected as the norm from him and you’re not likely to get 50+ games a season. The exception being 21/22 when he played 55 games and got 21 goals. Not a terrible return but not spectacular either, especially for someone considered as the one of the best finishers the club has had in years.

He's been out of sorts for quite a while now, his injury record aside he should be scoring more.

I'm a massive fan of Jota but he just can't stay injury free.

Has this habit of getting on a good run of goals, gets injured, comes back and it takes him weeks to get back up to speed.

He should have buried that header today. Bread and Butter stuff!!

Yeah. Diogo is my favourite player but hes nowhere near that level currently that he has been in his time here.

He did well on the left under Jürgen and I wonder whether we could try him there and Cody central.

If you think of our elite forwards in the PL era: Rush (though in the twilight of his career), Fowler, Owen, Torres, Suarez, Salah, Mane.

Then there is the next tier: Sturridge, Firmino, Diaz, Gakpo. I wouldn't be putting Jota among them (he is definitely not at the level of prime Sturridge for instance). He is a good finisher, but too much of a lightweight and offers little in general play. It's why i'd have Nunez ahead of him in games where we aren't camped in the opposition half. When on top though, and creating chances galore, then you want a Jota to be on the end of it.

He is among the third tier with Heskey, Nunez, Collymore, Baros, Crouch, Kuyt.

He is a good back up option. We clearly need to be buying a starter.

Nunez is nowhere near the quality of a kuyt, Crouch or Jota. Injuries have affected Jota. He is a shadow currently of what he was. At his best he is a quality forward and he has shown that many times here, unlike darwin.

Been really disappointing since he came back from injury.

Missed sitter headers that he would normally bury in his sleep and I don't even remembering him over his last few games, having a shot on target.

9 duels, won 1. Too lightweight, the ball doesn't stick with him, which is precisely what we don't need from a #9 against quality opponents.

Slot picked the team though, so he carries the responsibility for the mistake. An hour of allowing their defence an easy time. They should have been run ragged from the start. Then against tiring defences you bring on a Jota later on.

He has always been back up level. Slot would rather play 3 wingers than have him in the 9. CL final vs Madrid under Klopp it was Diaz, Mane and Salah.

He is a fox in the box, but we need a lot more than that. In general play its close to playing with 10 men. Just too anonymous and easy to handle.

Jota is definitely better off the bench than starting I think. Let Darwin battle their CBs for 65 minutes, then bring Jota on once they've tired a bit.

To be fair to Jota natural position is the wing, just that he could play through the middle when needed. His best position is wide imo (which is common theme for all our attackers bar Salah).

I love Jota but his form has been poor since coming back in January. See how it plays out in the final two months for him as I suspect he has Slots trust so he will get lots of playing time and see what we have going forward. Everything looks a struggle for him atm.

I was and am a huge fan but there can be no getting away from how ineffective he is at the moment.

There's a solid argument to be had that you let him and Nunez go, buy a top level 9 and use Danns as well.

Diaz and Gakpo give more, Diaz has lots of flaws as well and I'm far from his biggest fan.

The elephant in the room though is if Salah is off as well.

He's a real conundrum. Hasn't really done anything under Arne and is currently miles off the levels he achieved under Klopp. I thought he might start getting involved again once fit but he's done f*ck all.

Physically he doesn't look the same and he is neither influencing games nor scoring goals. I think he would 100% be moved on in the summer if it wasn't for the fact our other main striker cannot hit a cows arse with a banjo.

Sometimes takes him a while to get back to his best.

These injuries must be really taking their toll on him.
