      How can they? FIFA rules say they have to be released on international dates. He won't be the first play called up for international duty just as he returns from injury.

      Believe I read where they've changed it this year, teams can withhold their players.

      Hope we withhold all our lads, don’t need any more miles on the clock for anyone this season.

      I found this article for the transfer window for September, 2020 0 not sure if it applies for the March 2021 window:

      "The situation of the pandemic is rapidly evolving across the world and many national governments have again implemented travel and immigration restrictions due to a renewed increase in COVID-19 infections. Some of these measures directly impact international competition, such as mandatory periods of quarantine or self-isolation and travel restrictions.

      As a result, in order to ensure that the well-being and health of all individuals involved in international competition is respected, the Bureau of the FIFA Council has, after consultation with UEFA, decided that the general rules which normally oblige clubs to release players for national team matches should not apply in the following instances:

      there is a mandatory period of quarantine or self-isolation of at least five days upon arrival at:
      the location of the club which has an obligation to release the player to an association team; or
      the location where a representative team match is scheduled to take place;
      there is a travel restriction to or from either location (a. or b. above); and
      no specific exemption from the relevant authorities relating to the above decisions has been granted to players of a representative team;
      "

      If the same exceptions are applying in the upcoming window, is Portugal on such a list for UK? What about Brazil, Spain, Turkey, Senegal or Egypt?

      Liverpool 'set to block' Jota, Alisson, Fabinho and Firmino from internationals

      The Reds are reportedly set to block the exits of their Brazilian trio and Portugal's Diogo Jota for the upcoming round of international fixtures in March due to quarantine concerns.

      The Reds are reportedly set to block the exits of their Brazilian trio and Portugal's Diogo Jota for the upcoming round of international fixtures in March due to quarantine concerns.

      The coronavirus pandemic has created the conditions for a brewing club vs country row, with Premier League sides unwilling to let their stars jet off around the world and risk missing crucial matches.

      Clubs’ hands have been strengthened after FIFA announced that they will be able to stop players from travelling to represent their national sides if it will require them to quarantine when they get back.

      Liverpool players Alisson, Fabinho and Roberto Firmino would be among those Brazil boss Tite would like to call up for the World Cup qualifiers against Colombia and Argentina on March 25 and 31 respectively.

      Meanwhile, Diogo Jota would normally be a part of Portugal’s games against Azerbaijan, Serbia and Luxembourg at the back end of March.

      However, the Daily Mail reports that Liverpool will block their exits for international duty because both Brazil and Portugal are on the UK’s quarantine list.

      If the Reds didn’t prevent them playing for their countries, the Brazilian trio would miss two rounds of Premier League action between April 3 and April 10, as well as potentially the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals, should Liverpool reach them.

      Fantastic news. Absolutely nothing good can come out of those players going away in stupid international games.

      Can't wait to have him back, it will give a real boost in our CL efforts.

      Saw on FB that he was in team training today.  Considering he's been out almost 12 weeks I expect it will take him a few weeks to get back to full fitness, and possibly a few more to hit top form.   Hopefully fans aren't too critical of him on his return -- I get the feelling many are looking to him to hopefully save our season.

      The good news is that the CL quarterfinals aren't scheduled until early April, so with a little luck he could become the catalyst that kickstarts our CL campaign and helps us win another Big Ears this season :)

      This right here.

      A lot of people expecting him to banish Bobby to the bench and score loads of goals....what happens if that isn't the case?

      In all seriousness he'd have to be incredibly rusty, to the point of forgetting how to kick a football, to be worse than Bobby at the moment!

      No doubt he'll be crucified by some on here if he's not immediately banging in the goals and dragging us to victory singlehandedly.  Fortunately, the mods have built an ignore button :)
