Since we may not see (m)any more signings for the club this Summer, I thought I'd suggest an exercise for those who may be interested in a distraction before the season kicks off.
The basic gist of the game is to be in charge of player recruitment for Liverpool FC. The rules are as follows:
1. You must have a minimum depth chart (extended squad) of 44 players and a maximum of 50.
2. You must have a minimum of 19 players who are still 22yo or younger on 9 Aug 2018.
3. You must have a minimum of 12 players of ENG nationality (primary or secondary).
4. You must have players in reasonably realistic positions to cover the most likely formation for the upcoming season (in this case 4-3-3), meaning you must have at least 4GKs, 4RBs, 8CBs, 4LBs, 12CMs, 4RWs, 4CFs, 4LWs, and no more than 6 extras (as highlighted in the starting template below, please copy and paste).
5. You sign and sell players according to the values provided on
www.transfermarkt.co.uk6. Your starting budget is 2.25m, which will be increased to the website value of any players the club brings in before the end of the window (eg. 54.0m if we bring in Nabil Fekir).
7. Players bought by club in this transfer window (marked by *) can still be removed, with their value (not actual transfer fee) added to your budget for alternative targets.
8. You cannot buy players who are 20yo (or younger) on 9 Aug 2018 from another PL club, or 18yo (or younger) from any club.
9. You cannot buy players under contract to Everton or Manchester Utd.
10. Players without a club during transfer window (according to
www.transfermarkt.co.uk website), can be signed for free.
11. Your official depth chart is the last one submitted (or edited) by 17:00 BST 16 Aug 2018 (allowing 7 days to make changes after actual transfer deadline day.
12. If a current Liverpool player is sold during the remainder of the window for a different fee to his
www.transfermarkt.co.uk value, and you also want to sell him, you may only add their current value provided below (or any potentially updated value as of 9-16 Aug).
13. Official squads continue again at the start of each window. New players of this game begin with the current Liverpool squad (and their values) at the start of each upcoming transfer window (I'll post an updated depth chart of most highly valued 44 players).
14. Despite the rules (which are only there so we all can have a fair and remotely realistic exercise), just have fun with it. I'd encourage participants to only sign reasonably realistic transfers as a genuine squad building exercise to see how the players you'd bring in work out in the world of football compared to the ones we have, however, if you really must find a way to sign Messi and Ronaldo, go for it haha. If you're one of those fans clamouring for us to sign such and such a player because he's going to be a star, make it happen, and we'll see down the track if your call of potentially sacrificing one of our current players for him was worth it.
