Outstanding tonight. Tbh he has always looked the best of the "rookies" we have been playing in defence.

Very good in the air, I think he has a future at the club.

The final proof we can stop messing about with midfielders in defence.

      Good defender.

He's a mature lad and a good defender. As I said before he is a non non sense defender and with a ball playing next to him, he's huge.

Good to see another young player, showing a lot of promise, making his mark in the first team. We need one or two more players coming through like Nat Phillips.

Anyone think him and Gomez could very well have a decent partnership long term? Both English, same age, ones slow but no nonsense and one is quick and plays the ball...

      Nope -

All getting a bit carried away , he did well and his brave and gets stuck in but he is horrificly slow and poor positional sense, he will be a decent enough 5th choice CB

He was doing good because we had a decent DM playing in front of him.  Hope Fabinho can keep playing the DM and at the same time not getting injured.

Easily one of my favorite players on this team. Just a hard-nosed, no nonsense, throwback type of defender well aware of his limitations and therefore (mostly) keeps it simple.

For sure. Plays like a boot room era player. Definitely a throw back style. Over the moon for him. Well done Nat

What about 24 year old defenders though?  :f_tongueincheek:

I like him and his attitude has been great but I think we need to look at the bigger picture and what standard we have at CB nornally.

For me he's done a great job and id be happy enough for him to be here as 5th CB in a list but no more.

Thats the thing i like most most about him. He doesnt over complicate things. He knows what he is good at, and plays on his strengths.
He knows he is isnt quick, so he play smarts and try to get them wide.
Really mature player, and hard not to like the lad.
Well done Phillip. Deffo a player to have in the squad for future.

but to me it would be massively unfair to him, who has proven he can play at this level, and bar another injury-filled year, he would never see the field except maybe FA/Carabao cup games. If the decision is he's 5th best, for he personally it would be better off if we sold him to a promoted team where he could get more regular playing time.

Then you have Kabak who has also done well. If Nat is 5th, does that mean Kabak is 6th? Then he becomes an academy/U23 player, and we are all seeing he too belongs in this league.

CB is going to be a dilemma this summer.

Right now I'd rather keep Nat as backup than Matip when everyone's fit.

The big factor here will be whete does Nat want to reach?

Is he ok with playing for Liverpool as 4th 5th or 6th choice or does he take a move should it come?

I think if we are totally honest if we intend to be European champions and English champions regularly in the next 10 years then he does not play too often.

I have said all along how well hes doing but he is too inclined to rush in to things, ball follows too much and being honest lacks the recovery speed to make us the best.

Hes a cult hero, like Erik Meijer. We loved him for his heart but nobody wanted big Erik as first choice striker
