Just reading we may have to forfeit to midtyjaland due to travel restrictions and UK government not allowing for any excemptions of the rule!!

Surely that will not be the case, but seems to be a possibility.

If that becomes the case they'll just schedule it in a day after another game.  No sweat for the organisers!

Liverpool's Champions League plans have been thrown into turmoil by the UK Government's latest travel warning regarding Denmark.

The Reds are due to fly to the Scandinavian country next month as part of their Group D schedule.

However, latest travel restrictions mean that any persons returning from the country must self-isolate for two weeks when they get back.

Those protocols have been waived for elite sportsmen and sportswomen since the return of competitions, however it has been confirmed that this will not be the case with Denmark.

This is due to a new, more virulent strain of the coronavirus having been passed from mink to humans.

And according to the Liverpool Echo, this could have ramifications for Jürgen Klopp's side, with the Reds' trip to Herning now being rethought.

The outbreak in Denmark has already caused question marks over the upcoming friendly between England and Iceland.
With Iceland due to face Denmark just three days before heading to Wembley for their November 18 Nations League clash,  the FA are set to hold urgent talks with the FA to find out whether the match can go ahead.

As it stands, Premier League clubs are refusing players the right to travel to Scandinavian destinations due to the latest outbreak.

Leicester keeper Kasper Schmeichel and Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg were due to link up with Denmark while Andreas Christensen (Chelsea), Jannik Vestergaard (Southampton), Henrik Dalsgaard (Brentford), Mathias Jensen (Brentford) and Jonas Lössl (Everton) could also miss out. Denmark have called up nine new players to the squad. Swedish players could also be affected.

The new rules took effect on November 7 and are due to be reviewed in a week.

Should the situation stay the same, it would mean a certain postponement to Liverpool's clash with Midtjylland on December 9.

Long way to go till this game.  Hopefully the group is wrapped up by then anyway.

what a load of nonsense, aren't the Danish players tested, the same as ours?. If they are that worried why not cancel these stupid international games.

Yep, that's what I'm thinking. It should be played in another country if travel restrictions are still in place in a month.

UEFA set up the rules beforehand to trigger forfeits if one club had too many positives or if their government rules kept a match from happening. rescheduling wouldn't be an option as there is no place to put the matches .

Not sure about this mink business,  I know the usa national team is holding camp in Swansea and had it's quarantine waived. They play Wales on Thursday night and the squad is made up of players from all over Europe and South America.

Didn't realise this.  Probably makes sense.  This could have been a 'trick' a club could have played if they needed a point to qualify.

Exactly, I really don't think it will matter, beat Atalanta or Ajax and we are through, actually I think even if we draw both those home games we are through.

It might actually be quite nice to be able to skip a whole game in December

I suggest we roll a dice and draw cards to decide how the points are awarded and how the goals are scored.

Alternatively, simulate the game over computer that determines outcome based on random variables. We could tweak formations and lineups as well.

I suggest we take a tribute from each squad and make them compete against each other in a battle royale style death match.

I reckon we should have a Zoom conference where each player go up against each other, ie; keeper V keeper, etc in 11 rounds of paper, Rock, scissors, with that f***in pr**k Tyler commentating, ‘ and it’s Live’ and Ratboy summarising 🤪

      As things stand

A win v Atalanta sends us through

A draw v Atalanta would leave us needing a draw v Ajax to qualify as we would beat Atalanta and Ajax on head to heads.

So not losing either of the next 2 games makes the game v Midjyland irrelevant. And as has been pointed out, its cancellation only gives us uch needed rest

A win v Atalanta, which unless they play much much better and us much much worse is almost guaranteed, and we could even rest some players against Ajax

Why should we be back to full strength then?

Surely we're the first club to be cautious of such a situation! esp as we are losing defenders as quick as United's faith in Solskjaer ..

We need a new strategy IMO that utilities the best of what we have available, or tell the guys down @ the ATC  they need to fast track some more prospects.

Well that 'no exemption' has already been broken. Iceland will be allowed to play England at Wembley just a couple of days after playing in Denmark.

Games can be played in neutral venues. A number of them were during the qualifying rounds. Forfeiting and postponements are the last of last resort measures.
