League only. He kept a clean sheet at home in the European Cup campaign, but that only lasted one game.

Playing wise, I only remember him from his Spurs days. Maybe he just had his best years here, because I didn't think he was that special for them. After he left, we put 7 goals past him the following season. And many more would follow.

Grob replaced him, and he also had a fantastic career here. But he was error prone with numerous high profile incidents. One of them was the derby at home, when he let a Ratcliffe backpass crawl underneath him. He says he couldn't go out after it. He was lucky it didn't happen now, otherwise he would get the Migs/Karius treatment.

His first game back at anfield was in 1982 when we beat spurs 3-1 to win the league

Saddened to hear of the passing of our greatest ever keeper,  Ray Clemence is a true Legend, the saves he pulled off down the years were simply world class, and but for the FA's golden boy Shilton would have had many more caps for his country.

What did we pay for Alisson?? £75m?
How much would Clem be worth then? double?

RIP Ray... top goalkeeper, had the pleasure of growing up watching him week in week out..
Hardly ever wore gloves as well.. even in the depths of winter on a mid week game up at Newcastle..

My best Clem moment has to be the penalty save at the kop end, in the re-arranged UEFA Cup final 1st leg when we beat Borussia Mönchengladbach in 73
The way he stretched down to his right to palm it away was true quality..

Not so good moment for Clem was when Kenny nutmegged him at Hampden Park... but then Kenny nutmegged everyone..

      You'll never walk alone Ray..

Sad news. Slightly before my time as a Liverpool player but did watch him play against us.

Played more league games in the 70s than anybody else and his stats, trophies and stories tell you everything.

Seemed like a great fella on and off the pitch. 15 year battle v cancer hardly seems like a fair fight. RIP.

Would have been the first English Treble but 22 years earlier . . .

      Remember something he said.

It was to a TV reporter on the team bus after leaving Wembley 1977 . FA Cup Final.

Although Jimmy Case scored a brilliant goal the Scum sneaked the win .

We had though won the League title only a few days before .

He said that after today ( Cup Final ) we would give Borussia Monchengladbach hell the following week in the European Cup Final.

We did.  We beat them 3-1.

      The things you remember.

RIP Clem.  Privileged to have watched you play.

      YNWA

Can identify with his cancer 15 year fight.

Watched him after he took over from The Flying Pig Tommy Lawrence.

If it hadn't been for Shilton being about ... Clem would have had many more England caps.

      R.I.P.  Clem.

I was very saddened to hear about the death of Ray Clemence.I think of all the goalkeepers I have seen play for L.F.C as far back as Cyril Sidlow, without a doubt Ray Clemence stands out as the best of all.I remember when we signed him as a young lad from Scunthorpe and as was the Shankly custom Ray went into the reserves for a season or two.
R.I.P. Ray and thanks for the memories and all the honours you helped this great club achieve.

Rest in peace, Ray. The best goal keeper we ever had. A genius at understanding the balance of the game and  he was brilliant at getting to the ball, before it was kicked, his intuition was knowing where it was going to go. I know lots of stories about Clem, but sufficient to say, I loved the guy. This was a photo of him and Kevin Keegan taken last year, with me between. He thought he was clear of the problem. How sad.

Liverpool's finest ever keeper & as many have said, would have a lot more England caps but for Shilton.

From an era of so many fine English goalkeepers and you look at the dearth of talent now!

Clemence, Shilton, Corrigan, Cooper. Parkes, Keelan, of the top of my head.

6Stringer made a great shout about the 1973 UEFA Cup Final (first leg) penalty save. I remember it well. It came as we were leading 3-0, and the full importance was seen after we lost the second leg 2-0.

My other standout memory of Ray Clemence also involves Borussia M'gladbach in the 1977 European Cup Final. At 1-1, soon after they had equalized, he made a vital save in a one-to-one with Uli Stielike.

It's at 2:30 in the clip below:
