      Pre-Match: FC Midtjylland v Liverpool: CL (Wed 9 Dec 2020 5:55pm)
      Dec 08, 2020 12:23:39 pm
Goes ahead in Denmark after fears of having to forfeit then move it to Dortmund.

Already qualified and Midtjylland already bottom theres nothing at stake in this one.. Surely this will be a night off for the first team?

Big question for supporters is probably do you go with Origi or give the game time to the likes of Glatzel or Stewart?

Id see no reason to take Kelleher out. The more he plays the better he will get. An hour for Trent and Naby perhaps, to get them back up to speed.

                                 Kelleher
            Trent     Rhys            Koumetio Tsmiskas

                         Cain Keita Clarkson

             Minamino  Stewart  Origi/Glatzel

havnt a clue what team will start on wednesday. defo lots of changes, Personally if Origi starts its his last last last chance, he looked really uninterested the last time he started.

Klopp might surprise a few by starting more senior lads than we expect. Joto, as brian noted trent and keita need a game to help with match sharpness, even if its only 60mins.

I think we need at least 1 senior CB or fabhino. ;D

What's the rules regarding the playing of all the kids for this one.

Obviously in this instance we are qualified and Midtjylland can't qualify - but what would have happened if we were playing Ajax and they were level with Atalanta and going for qualification?

5.55 KO. Damn. Was looking forward to sleeping through this one but with it being an evening game I'll have no excuses not to watch.

This is Liverpool and every game matters and with that in mind time to play the kids and F**k the result off.

Do we have a squad of fringe  players that would assemble a starting XI? Struggling to find some midfielders and a CB we can use.

Maybe half an hour for Trent and Keita, no more than that, other than that play the fringe players, ther ei sno sense in risking any key players in this game. I'd even be tempted to play Adrian in goal, throw the poor f**ker a bone.

It's game time for those who need it most, be it coming back from injury or letting the kids gain more experience. We could experiment with how we play as well.

I expect Keita and Arnold to get around 60 minutes and Origi and Minamino to get full games. Robbo, Matip and Fab should get the night off. The rest just use any kid who is registered for the CL.

Think those 7 will play but no idea regarding the rest really. Maybe Trent and Keita will get some minutes to get up to speed again.

If it's me I will definitely not risk TAA, Matip, Gini, Robbo, Mane and Mo.
And for me Naby must play this (as he seemed prone to injury so play him upon he available).

There are photos of today's training on the official site, but it's hard to tell everyone involved because a lot of the pics are from a distance and the closeups are mostly of first team regulars. I see Leighton Clarkson for instance, but I don't see Jake Cain. He may have been there, but along with pics being taken from distance, the players are heavily bundled in a lot of the pics (lovely weather on Merseyside today, it appears).

Someone mentioned Ox appears to be in full training. I don't know if Jürgen would try to give him a runout tomorrow or not, maybe too soon if today is his first day back in team training.

Looks like even with a lot of so-called fringe players we can still put out a decent side. No doubt Minamino, Tsimikas and Keita need a game, as does Origi. I know Jota missed most of the Wolves game, but I would still keep him out tomorrow, there will still be 3 games in 7 days to follow.

I"m guessing Jürgen goes with Neco Williams at right back and we see Trent back in the starting lineup on the weekend vs. Fulham. A lot of the first choice players will likely be training at Kirkby on Wednesday, while the others are in Denmark.

Would probably give Trent and Keita a start, get some game time into them.
And give Kelleher another start too.
Apart from that, would rest all the regulars.
Great win that last week vs Ajax, free hit for Jürgen tomorrow.

I should think a couple will play. These games can be valuable stepping stones fir the youngsters but you need a bit of experience alongside them to ensure it is worthwhile. I would expect to see either of Fab or Matip To partner Williams and I’m fairly certain we will play either of Hendo or Gini in midfield because we simply don’t have the bodies available

Any player from their B list can be added to up to 24 hours before any particular fixture. The B list consists of players who are born on, or after, 1 January 1998 and have been eligible to play for the club concerned for any uninterrupted period of two years since their 15th birthday (players aged 16 may be submitted if they have been registered with the club for the previous two years)

I've read somewhere that any U21 players is eligible, but if that's the case I don't know why they have this list on the UEFA site. This is our registered squad list for 2020.

      Goalkeepers: Alisson, Adrian, Kelleher, Jaros

Defenders: Virgil, Gomez, Trent, Robbo, Matip, Tsimikas, Rhys Williams, Neco Williams, Billy Koumetio, Yasser Larouci

Midfield: Fabinho, Gini, Thiago, Milner, Keita, Hendo, Ox, Curtis Jones, Shaqiri, Elijah Dixon-Bonner, Jake Cain, Leighton Clarkson

Forwards: Salah, Jota, Mane, Bobby, Minamino, Origi, Harvey Elliott, Layton Stewart, Liam Millar, Luis Longstaff, Paul Glatzel

The players in bold do not appear to be present in Denmark. Elliott obviously is no longer with the team.

      Origi, Minamino, Jota
Subs: Adrian, Trent, Robbo, Matip, Fabinho, Curtis, Mo, Sadio, Bobby (Jake Cain if he's there).

After yesterdays presser, i can see klopp doing exactly this, probably 50/50 experience and youth.

Why though, wasn't Klopp winging about too many games then he goes and plays half of his over worked players in a meaningless game, it makes him look like a bit of an idiot in my opinion and weakens his arguments about 5 subs etc. If there was a chance of Midtjylland affecting the final group standings then I'd kind of understand it but there isn't.

Hence the reason I asked if we were allowed to just put out a team of kids in the Champions League.  I wasn't sure it was allowed.

So I'm not sure how much of an extent this is down to 'idiot Klopp' or 'contractual obligations'.

I note Chelsea were already group winners but practically all their first team were in last night's matchday squad.

Not sure any obligations team list wise can be interfered with if one team has already won the group and the other team are already finishing bottom? Ajax v Atalanta is in their own hands

If no obligations have to be met or are not being broken due to the circumstance then its silly to have first teamers involved. You cant on one hand say players are not protected enough and then on the other hand the first chance you get to rest them, you dont

ah ok, that's a fair point, but how would that contract work, surely a manger is free to chose whoever he wants from his squad, I'm just trying to figure out how that stipulation would be phrased, you need to play the players who have played the most, who are worth the most, who have highest stats. Its an interesting one.

I remember back in the 90s some English teans, including Spurs I think, got in trouble for fielding.a U21 team in the old Intertoto Cup.

Klopp on the official site is quoted as saying Liverpool still wants to win every game it plays, even though we don't need to win this one.

On the other hand, the pics of the pregame walk keep showing everyone from behind so I'm wondering if a few more kids are with the group than they've shown. Cloak and dagger like.  ;D

Not really fussed about this one, although at the same time I want us to win it.

Expecting a mixture of kids and regular first teamers, with a run out for TAA and Keita to get them back up to match sharpness.

      Other than that, F**k knows.

Apparently Bobby being looked at by the trainers, may have picked up an injury in pre-game training.

I just don't see Klopp disrespecting the CL and fielding a full team of youngsters. He will undoubtedly field a mix of young and established players, if for no reason other than it's a good opportunity to give those established players some minutes to get them back to match fitness since they are coming back from injury (ie. Keita, Trent) or get so little playing time otherwise (Origi, Minamino).

Even when Bayern when to Madrid, they still started players like Alaba, Sule, Costa and Sane.

Going for a narrow win for the Reds, 2  1. Although the main thing at this stage, is to avoid any needless injuries, with the group wrapped up.

I really would be annoyed if we start Fabinho or Matip, the rest of the team we can have a few seniors playing one half but not the CB's please, we need to wrap those two in cotton wool.
