FC Midtjylland 1-1 Liverpool: In game and Post Match discussion
      Dec 09, 2020 04:35:28 pm

Waiting to host for the 6 times Champions of Europe

Starting XI: Kelleher, Alexander-Arnold, R. Williams, Fabinho, Tsimikas, Clarkson, Keita, Minamino, Jota, Origi, Salah.

Subs: Adrian, Jaros, Wijnaldum, Firmino, Mane, Henderson, Jones, Robertson, Matip, Cain, N. Williams, Koumetio.

Leighton Clarkson is handed his Champions League debut for Liverpool in this evening’s Group D finale with FC Midtjylland.

The 19-year-old Academy graduate lines up in midfield at the Arena Herning to claim his third appearance for the Reds’ senior side.

Jürgen Klopp makes a total of eight changes in Denmark, with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Naby Keita returning to the starting XI.

Only Caoimhin Kelleher, Fabinho and Mohamed Salah retain their places from Sunday’s win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

For me, Klopp is taking so much risk. I would have not play many of those. We can afford 1.5M less.

Ok one or two unexpected but glad most of the big guns being rested, great opportunity for young Clarkson, the lad will be buzzin, so good luck to him hope he shines brightly, make or break for Divock I think his days are numbered but a good performance  would do him no harm,

Chance too for Kostas to show what he’s about, he won’t get many chances so he needs to make the best of it, all in all that’s a decent X1 and although I’m not expecting us to be fluid I still think we could win this,

1-2 Champions League champions elect !

8 changes. Trying to introduce all new players for one match isn't really a professional approach to a Champions League game from one of the biggest clubs in the world. Still plenty of mixing and matching and no doubt he will make other changes at 45 minutes.

I don't think Jürgen is quite confident yet in Billy Koumetio to come in and play 90 minutes in our back line. Hopefully we can get a decent lead and maybe then he makes a debut.

Interested to see how Leighton Clarkson fares. He's a leading light for the U23s for sure, but he's also going to be giving away a lot of size out there. I hope he puts on a strong performance.

Always happy to watch this team. Hoping everyone comes through unscathed.

We have to keep the sponsors happy.  Although, I don't think the side we are putting out here is as comparatively strong as Chelsea's last night.

Probably the main one to be concerned about is Trent but he may just play a half.

Hope Clarkson has a fine CL debut and that Kelleher can keep those positive vibes going.

For those calling the team selection mad, who would you put out there instead?

A player can be injured any time he walks onto a pitch, matches, full training, recovery, whatever. Any time.

This will be a very useful match for everyone involved. Guys like Origi, Minamino, Tsimikas and Keita need a game. Young guys like Clarkson, and Rhys Williams continue their football education. It also provides some relief for our first choice players who have been playing so many minutes in short period of time.

Anyone know what kind of odds I could get for Origi to score tonight? Developing a strong hunch, regardless of how out of it he has seemed of late.

Other than Salah, no major surprises for the starting lineup.

Since Phillips is not registered to play it makes more sense to play Fabinho than Matip given Joel's frailty and Koumeito not being ready for a full game at this level.

Each of those three almost certainly will be subbed out by 60 minutes if not the break.

Can his thread title be changed to "Kellher" as a tongue in cheek homage to the player and whoever got his first half top printed?
Seems to me a bit of Scouse humour in the players threads would go down a treat.
