Nat Phillips comes into the starting line-up for Liverpool’s encounter with Newcastle United tonight.

He replaces the injured Joel Matip at St. James’ Park as the Reds make two changes from the weekend draw with West Bromwich Albion.

James Milner also starts in midfield in place of Georginio Wijnaldum, while Thiago Alcantara is named on the bench after returning to fitness.

Strong enough line up and although it's great to see Thiago on the bench I doubt he'll feature at all with a couple of players ahead of him fitness wise.

Players are no FIFA '21 avatars you can interchange arbitrarily. Jones is young and still needs to be guided. If you give Jones the bench he'll learn that he gets punished if he makes mistakes. That will make him play scared. So basically Jürgen is forced to keep Jones for now to build trust - both in him as a coach but also in Jones' ability to overcome adversity. Of course all that only makes sense if you feel that Jones is some prospect - and Klopp obviously feels like that. Therefore I understand Jürgen's decision.

Wasn’t sure Curtis we oils start, but did sss as y Klopp wouldn’t victimise anyone or words to that effect, but surprised Gini is dropped. Millie is solid enough but still doesnt offer too much guile going forward.
Just hope Jürgen is brave enough to make early changes if it’s not going well.
Still confident of a 1:3 result, but we have to up the tempo for prolonged periods.
Slow build up plays into opposition hands.
We need to blast the fuckers off the field !

Thought Jürgen had said outright that he wouldn't be involved for this match so I'm wondering if this is just him being named as the 9th of 9 subs with no possibility of him actually coming on.

Glad Jürgen has shown confidence in Curtis Jones - interesting interview with the 19-year old on the official site. He's ready to make amends for Sunday and I back him to put in a really strong performance.

Gini has been playing a lot and I'm sure Jürgen was eager for Milner to get a game now that he's fit again.

Phillips is the bigger surprise for me although I guess he had to choose someone with three central defenders injured.

We rarely have 2 bad performances in a row under Jürgen, so Newcastle should be worried. I think we will win this by 3 or 4.
