      Pre-Match: Southampton v Liverpool EPL (Mon 4th Jan 2021 8:00pm)
      Jan 01, 2021 02:53:45 pm
The league-leaders and defending champions travel south for their first match of the new year, taking on the upstart Saints.

Hopefully we can score some goals on Monday.

Joel Matip will still be out, not sure about Naby Keita.

      Thiago to start?

Well hopefully Southampton won't Park the bus so should be a fairly open game, got to move the ball quicker with a much more attacking thrust to our game COYR

As much as I would love to see Thiago start he won't be ready for 90 so do we start and get 60 mins or so or have on bench . Jones needs to come out for me

Reckon he’ll be on the bench for this one, maybe come on around the hour mark. Imagine Klopp will not want to rush him so maybe starting against Villa in the cup.

I'd start Thiago, I want to actually start a game well instead of scrambling around the last 30 minutes.

We have a good record there in recent years...

      Personally I would go with

      Allison
      TAA
      Robertson
      Williams
      Fabinho

      Gini
      Henderson
      Minamino

      Salah
      Firmino
      Mane

Give minutes to Milner and Thiago and bring ox on around the 93rd minute.

Yeh I have said think the Villa game will be one to look to get a full shift in gut says he will be on bench and as you say come on 60 minutes

Cant see Thiago making a start here, I think that comes v utd.

I do think we need to tweak something though. Perhaps flipping the roles of Fab and Hendo

Minamino has to start for me

                           Alisson

           Trent    Hendo   Rhys   Robbo

                             Fab

                   Minamino   OX

           Mo          Bobby      Mane

Think this game is a tougher fixture that the previous three.
We will have to find some form or some new shooting boots to get anything from this.
I’ve predicted a win but the way things have been, I wouldn’t be surprised if anything to be honest.
One things for sure. If the system, tactics or individuals are just not cutting it, FFS Jürgen, change it while there’s still time for the changes to be implemented.
Subs going on at 92 mins. Get real boss.
Could win it ! Could just as easily lose it.
I expect Saints to have a right go knowing we are suffering a bit at the mo. I also expect us to be a bit nervous as well.

           Allison
      TAA Nat Fab Robbo
      Gini Hendo Thiago
      Minamino Bob Mane

Would start same back 5. Nat wasn't great, but he's a lot better than Williams in the air. Hopefully someone will come in soon at CB in the window.
Thiago was great when he came on the other nite, some unbelievable passing - would start him till he gets tired.
Salah has been poor last 2 games - would maybe start Taki. Haven't been that impressed with taki either though, toss of a coin. Worst decision of the season so far was to play Jota for 87 mins in a dead rubber vs Midgetland.
Really need to start winning matches again, we've had January's before were things have gone to sh*te, hope we can turn things round on Mon.

That’s not the point. You seem to be suggesting that we need Thiago to start well. Where was Thiago when we won 7-0 against Palace, 4-0 against Wolves or 3-0 against Leicester? Where was Thiago when we won the Premier League last year or in fact where has he been for the most part this season when we are top of the league? Answer = not in the team. It’s great to have another world class midfielder in contention but there’s no need to rush him back, the other lads have done just fine.

My point is why not start a game strongly, blitz an opponent then you can rest players later.

Why do you think we can’t do that without Thiago? We are capable of it, even if we have drawn out last 2 games.

Need to keep on the toes of United, 3 draws on the bounce will be unacceptable

United get a pen every game. Ridiculous calls going there way this season. That scares me. They're good and have luck on their side

Just win any way possible, watching the Villa game and VAR are on United's side,Bailly goes in two footed and only gets a yellow then Pogba trips on his own legs and they give a penalty, couldn't make it up.Mane's leg is held vs the toon and we get nothing!!We are going to have to win the league the hard way this season because the premier league don't want us to win it. United are not that good and that'll show as the season goes on,average defence, average midfield (apart from Fernandes) and only Rashford their decent striker. We will smash em on the 17th when they park the bus and try and hit us on the counter.
