LITERALLY men against boys, they looked so young :)

Some things to take from it:
      - Thiago starting to look the part, really like his passing
      - as result, don't see Williams playing much in the PL - likely Fab/Hendo until Matip fit or CB signed
      - Salah still looks well of it, we started Taki vs Palace, though not sure Jürgen would do it vs Utd
      - Shaq was better, though hard to judge given opposition

If was us though having to play our u23s/u18s vs full Villa side I'd be a bit pissed at the FA. Bit of a farce.

But a wins a win even vs a bunch of kids, so good for morale.

Wrap Thiago up in cotton wool and bubble wrap until the Utd game.

      By a country mile.

I actually agree with whoever said play him and Shaqiri against the mancs.

Don't really care who drops out of Hendo and Gini as with Thiago and Shaq we see much more progressive football than we have done.

He’s right downright embarrassment this forum sometimes, stick to Netflix with the missus mate.

It’s called passion, and I'm digging out form, not the manager and not specific players. You continue to be a miserable mute.

I know they were young, but, on times we looked like the LFC class of last season. I'm hoping that does something to our players from a psychological point of view.

Well done to the kids though...can't help wonder what might have happened had they not run out of gas!

Now, please buy a CB. A loanee would do. A freebie would do as long as he's experienced! As has been said, that frees up Fab when Matip gets back.

Ehh why do you think Jürgen took him off?

Maybe to rest him before the Mancs game he will 100% start in?

Ehh so you can never drop Hendo because he's the captain?give your head a wobble,if any player is not playing well enough then they can be dropped whoever they are.For me Hendo has been poor for a while, whether he's carrying a knock no one knows but for me he slows attacks down, his crosses are so poor and he passes the ball sideways and backwards way to much, what i can't fault is his work rate.

      I agree.

Hendo is not beyond being dropped and for me something needs to change in midfield, especially given the lack of spark from wide recently.

Thiago, Gini and Shaqiri for me next game.

Why is Jürgen not trying Williams-Phillips? It would free Fab to play in midfield again. Both Williams and Phillips seem to be able to play on PL level, but both just lack enough game time (together) to learn and to get into some rhythm. This was the game to test them and Jürgen didn't.

So who do we play in midfield then in one of our most intense competitive games of the season?

A just fit Thiago and a just fit Shaqiri next to Gini?

This is the real world buddy and in this world Hendo plays against the Mancs every time.

I think two inexperienced CBs would be too risky. With one inexperienced CB, you can have Fab, Matip, or whoever, to keep them in line.

A fired up Thiago-Hendo-Gini midfield will be tasty against the Mancs.

I love when our captain gets this silly flack with calls to he dropped then immediately shuts them all up again the next big game.

Just as the reaction at the HT score was over the top, the idea that we're good now after winning that game is also overstated. They were exhausted by the time we finally broke through with another goal. I know Thiago's brain/vision are set at a faster speed, and technically he is a phenomenon, but he's not going to have that kind of time on the ball in a match vs. senior professionals. For me there are still genuine questions about our form (not our ability/lineup/talent, but our form).

Hats off to the Villa kids for putting up such a good fight.

Everyone including Jürgen recognizes the need to bring in another defender, but it has been explained in some detail that because of CoVid's impact on finances, buying someone in January who can make a difference in the back line is not happening. I'd prefer not to declare that it leaves no hope for us to win the league this season.

But we will need for the form to improve. I'd love to see it begin with a win vs. the Mancs. That match can be the catalyst, similar to how last season's was the one that allowed us to sing it out in the open ("Now you're gonna believe us!")

defo need a CB,Williams and Philips have done well but are short term fixes,Philips is good in the air but don't feel he's good enough long term,Williams is still young but hasn't got the pace and doesn't quite read the game, that goal for them tonight was completely avoidable, their player was the wrong side and cut across him.
