Just because we are keeping clean sheets doesn't mean we don't need a CB or two,we have no fit CB's and one of our best players which is a CB is out until April and our best midfielder is playing CB.The balance of the team isn't right,we are really missing Fab in the midfield, everyone talking about the strikers not scoring but where are the goals from midfield? If Gini doesn't sign then i would give his place to someone else,he's either wants to play for us or he doesn't.
We already have Phillips Williams and Koumetio. Whether they're good enough or not is a different matter, but we do have fit centre backs. Centre backs against teams such as Burnley at home, are not going to have a lot of work to do, they just have to do it well. Fabinho is a defensive midfielder and an excellent centre back. He's been our player of the season so far.
None of our rivals are signing players atm. It's usually difficult to buy in January, this year even more so. So you can see why we haven't got the chequebook out. Going out to buy a centre back atm, means a 6 game immediate absence if he's not already in the UK. That's if he's good enough. If Jürgen thinks he needs time, it could take months. It took him 6 months and an injury to Moreno, just to get him to finally play Robbo every week. We could all see what the full back issue was but he didn't trust Robbo, and then as now, if he doesn't trust someone to do the job, he won't play them. Hence why Wijnaldum always plays when he's available and Shaqiri doesn't.
The main problem is further up the field. We haven't scored 7 goals in 1 game then 1 in 4 games, because we need new centre backs. We need to speed the play up, create more chances and get more shots on target. If we do that, the goals will come. It's not a centre back issue, it's not an issue with a specific player or area of the pitch. It's mainly a tactical issue and it needs to be sorted out soon.
