We need to start with Minamino.  We won games when he started.

Agree about his physical strength against the Burnley thugs, but what we need is someone to make runs from outside the box, into the box and someone to find them with the pass. If we're going to just cross the ball for 90 minutes then we need to be ready for another 0-0.

Did the job against Palace though and it's quite strange how he's barely had a look in since. His job wouldn't be to occupy their big centre backs.

You are right the problem is up front, but that can be helped by the middle, and getting Fab in there would be huge. Thursday is a chance to do that. Matip and Philips are well capable of handling Burnley.

Fab Thiago and 1 from Hendo/Ox/Shaq bring hat drive from the middle

Spot on,some people saying we don't need to buy a CB or 2 aren't seeing the bigger picture, our midfield hasn't been good the last 4 PL games and all season if you look at the goal tally from midfield in the PL,Fab has covered for VVD for 14 PL games and that a massive miss in midfield. It's not just down to our strikers to score goals,Mo and Sadio work hard both offensively and defensively but i would drop Bobby for Minamino or Shaq,Bobby's sloppy passes, poor touches and dreadful finishing has been going on for far to long.

Might win us a penalty though ;-) In any case he'll only get stronger by playing, not sitting on the bench and he cannot be worse than Bobby is currently.

Perhaps if Matip is back, we could leave Hendo in there with him, and give  Fab a run in the middle with Tiago and Ox. Just a thought.
Fab sitting deeper, Ox driving on and Tiago picking the locks.

Haha he would be booted out of Turf Moor and land on Pendle Hill.

I'm afraid Minamino isn't the answer and the fact we won 7-0 v Palace was not down to him being in the lineup.

These types of signings have started to creep in the last 18 months and its worrying because I'd rather we have genuine options on the bench rather than players Jürgen doesnt trust to play unless its a last resort.

I agree hendo needs to be In the middle of the park with fab. Philips at the back against their height makes sense

We look like Barcelona without messi - all possession and F**k all threat

Bring Thiago on if we are leading and he can hold the ball himself for 20 minutes

It seems ironic that in our last win in the league, where we won 7-0 against Crystal Palace, we have struggled ever since. Further more I agree with the above post that Minamino is not the answer. I just wonder what the solution is to rekindle scoring form especially against struggling sides like Burnley.

Nobody knows if Minamino is the answer or not as hes never had a proper run in the team.

Could he do much less then what is in the team at the moment?

I'd be happy with matip and Phillips at the back.

Fabinho hendo and thiago in midfield for me. Salah in-between Shaqiri and mane up top.

Or we could ask minamino to play the bobby role ... give him a run of games. He has never had 1/2 dozen games to get any rhythm.

Against Newcastle Phillip's was like a cart horse but against Wolves his air superiority was nothing short of brilliant which is why I think he should start against this team of thugs. As much as I would love to see Fab back in midfield I cannot see him being moved out of CB as Matip is sure to get injured in this game. As much as the front 3 are frustrating atm I think they are strong enough to break Burnley down. Maybe Origi as an impact sub if we need to throw balls into the box. But I also think this is where Thiago will shine and will unlock this defence. Here is hoping anyway.

      We need to be careful we don’t change too much at once, we’ve seen before that having too many changes can render us virtually toothless with no cohesion, flow or balance, no doubt Burnley wil bring the double decker with them so we really need to find a way thru them, there are a few good ideas above with different X1’s with varying changes, so this is my effort, fwiw;

                                                                    Alisson
                                                    Trent   Matip   Phillips  Robbo
                                                                   Fabinho
                                                     Shaqiri                  Thiago
                                                                  Minamino
                                                       Salah                   Mane

Bench; Kelleher, Milner, Hendo, Ox, Bobby, Jones, Origi

Providing of course Joel makes it he sits in with Phillips, if not I’d play Hendo next to Phillips and not Fabinho, I want him in his normal role protecting the back four, Shaq & Thiago creating with Taki linking up with Mane & Mo,
Hendo & Phillips will have enough to cope with whatever Burnley try to throw at us, especially with Fab in front protecting, harsh on Hendo if Matip makes it but something has to give in midfield to allow for the changes required,

I agree with most that we need to tweak here & there, but with caution, I know it’s only Burnley but we’ve had our fingers burnt before with too many changes, we need a win, goes without saying, but we f***in do, for confidence alone if not hanging on to coat tails !

To me this team picks itself. You don't have the luxury to "try something new" or "give players a chance". You play your best 11 (that are available) players. If they can't beat Burnley, then you have issues.

Lets be honest, its very hard to retain the PL. This team has done exceptionally well for 3 years now, we couldn't really have asked for more.
But I do sense a big change is needed. Burnley @ home shouldn't be filling us with dread we should be impatient to see us tear into them.

But the league will be gone if we don't score and win.
