Can't wait to have the injured lads back and hopefully some wicked new additions and we go again next year!

As long as Klopp doesn‘t take a good deep look at his style of football, you might be in for a unpleasant surprise. This might run deeper than just one-and-a-half year of bad luck.

In all seriousness if we do end up in that comp, we probably would be able to use more of the squad for a lot of those games.

Its obviously not ideal, as we always want to be at the top table, but the reality is it may be better than being in the europa cup.

Yeah, and obviously it’s not ideal not being in the CL but the reason the likes of Chambo, Keita, Shaq, Tsimikas etc don’t look sharp is because they aren’t getting regular games

In the world of looking for positives that will be mine

Agreed, those boys need games to be able to contribute, getting knocked out of the domestic cups early dont help that either.

It doesn’t but the draws we have had early rounds of the cups recently haven’t helped

But when you drop them in for one game they can’t get going or into any game fluidity

Yea, the odd game aint brilliant.

I was slagging a city fan friend of mine for the easy draws they get in the cups, especially early rounds. no wonder they won league cup so much. ;D

Not securing champions league football will have a big impact financially. Coupled  with the losses already published I can’t see a big spend this summer if we don’t end up in the top 4.

The CL financially is huge - we stood to make more money by winning the final group game this season (the game where Jota got injured) than we would have made by winning the FA Cup ... the difference in prize money is massive and we certainly will have planned to be playing in that competition next season.

The owners are to blame, the season was save able if they had bought a reasonable defender at the start of the January transfer window but no the skinflints waited till yet another defender was injured and on the last day of the window took a young lad on loan with an option to buy so no risk there and a lower league player who was so impressive he hasn't played.
So the skinflints have cost the team a champions league place and will now use that as a reason not to spend again

Am  right in saying should we finish level on points with leicester or chelsea it comes down to head to head and not goal differences?

So we beat Leicester 4 3 and Chelsea 2 1

Definitely goal difference, however that head to head rule might kick in if GD is the same

Goal difference, then goals scored, then play off at a neutral venue.

GD then goals scored if that is same says same position will be awarded that could be fun

If Liverpool win both their last two games they will end the season on 69 points and it is impossible for both Leicester and Chelsea to surpass that. It could all be decided on goal difference, or goals scored if goal difference is level.

So what happens if, for example, Leicester lose 1-0 at Chelsea and beat Tottenham 3-0 while Liverpool win 2-1 at Burnley, beat Crystal Palace 3-2 and Chelsea win their final game at Aston Villa?

That would leave Chelsea third on 70 points in third and Leicester and Liverpool both 69 points, both on a goal difference of 23, both having scored 68 goals.

Premier League rules for classification state that in this unlikely scenario, positions would be decided on the head-to-head record between the two teams.

So gd first then head to head as you say

The permutations ignoring Man United and assuming Chelsea and Leicester each win their last match are as follows:

      Assuming we win out
The worst case - would be a Chelsea win out and Leicester wins their last match. Chelsea would qualify and Leicester and us would be on 69 points, where GD and such kicks in.

The best case - Leicester wins or draws with Chelsea. We would be fourth in both cases with 69 points. If Leicester wins out, they secure third. If both draw and win their last matches, Leicester is third with 70 points and Chelsea would be fifth with 68 points.

Assuming we draw and win our last two matches
The worst case - Chelsea beats or draws Leicester and both win their last match. We would be fifth.

The best case - Leicester wins out and assuming Chelsea wins its last match. Chelsea and us would have 67 points in fourth, where GD and such kicks in.

Conclusion assuming both Leicester and Chelsea win their final match:
We should win out and hope for Leicester to draw or beat Chelsea.
If we draw and win our subsequent matches, we will need Leicester to beat Chelsea, from which fourth between us and Chelsea would depend on GD and such.

So support Leicester for 90 minutes on Tuesday. Got it. If I were to bet on that match I'd tip Chelsea, but who knows?

What if Chelsea win the Champions League?  and finish 5th?  Does anyone have any clear evidence that we will not lose our CL place to Chelsea if we get 4th spot.
