      Anfield

      Pre Match discussion here.

Not too sure of all the calculations but I am assuming that a defeat means we're effectively shafted out this competition.  Not too sure on the draw but let's just keep it simple.

Another big effing scoreline and another three points.

Cheers Rafa - don't forget to carry on 'coaching and training' the players.

      Line Up For Wednesday?

Surely the same starting lineup today, just Stevie and MAsch/Alonso in the middle, and certainly babel on the right.

Based on todys performance, Babel has to start.

      Any thoughts

Well Ive got my tickets in hand and ready for the trip and looking forward to the game woots!! Have to say I think this will be the team

                  Reina
      Finnan Carra Agger Risse
      Yossi  Gerrard  Mascha  Babel
           Crouch
                Torres

I think the only worry is that Quasimdo bloke whatever his name the winger, the one who likes visiting the hairbrader a lot is very fast but plays the game like another portugues pr**k who plays for that team along the east lancs road. Im really looking forward to this one and will be in the anfield Road End for the game so hope we score in the first half. Dam that anney road end I always have to start the singing off. Anyway 2-0 to us Im going for hope thats the result anyway.

Are you for real pal? ...would you really play Riise instead of Arbeloa for such a critical game on JAR's current form.

AA every time over JAR at the moment. No doubt in the world...

Don't be so negative mentioning defeat.

We will beat the Porto and march on in the CL on Wednesday... for sure!

Yes I would start Risse but and Arbeloa would be on the bench personnally I thought when we played them at down the right hand side they looked weak so a good stirke from the left might be a way to unsettle them.

I can't read your post properly...maybe it's because you typed it with your arse cheeks?

Now that's what I call a skill to be proud of.

For the record, I'm not a negative supporter and I'm as happy as punch with our form at the minute... if you can't take constructive comments that try to improve a very possible in our game, then that's your problem not mine.

Enjoy...and keep those arse cheeks flowing dude...

LMAO SDAEFTS BKDAS PBLDS !! ....so there.

I think we wil tear Porto apart on Wednesday... with Torres getting a brace and Crouchy scoring a wonder goal... how negative is that pal?

Porto play tonight against Vitória de Setúbal at about 6pm.

Porto have played 10 games in their league - winning 8 and drawing 2 and are sitting at the top.

Wait a minute, before we stop Quasimodo we have to stop their midfield build-up. We could see that their build-up is from the midfiedl. If we could just do that we're in for an interesting game. Break their midfield and beak their hearts. And we need to play a very physical game.

Rafa may have to think of how to stop the ball from getting to Queresma. If he could get Mascherano and gang to harass the Porto midfiled that would cause Porto to struggle.

Im only going on what I saw at Porto, Quasimodo is bought into play a lot and caused us problems down that wing and should be made a target to close down. Thats why I agree with your part about we must be physical, get in their face dont let them play and hunt them down. Mascha would be ideal for that role get into Quasi and burst his hump, metophorically speaking of course.!!!

if we went with that wed get the result we deserve and be out of the champ league. One up front at home in a must win game you arent steve mcclaren are ye??

      Reina
      Finnan Carra hyppia arbeloa
      Gerrard masch lucas kewell
      crouch torres

Thatll do for me although if we went with babel for kewell but with him up with crouch and torres id be equally happy. Wouldnt risk Agger in such a big game as it has beena  while since he played

Yeah, won 2-0. Lisandro and.............. Quaresma. Didn't see the game though. If they haven't lost this year then it's high time they did, isn't it.

I think they've got a tricky task against us on Wednesday. The timing of the game is one thing on it's own. I imagine we will be at full volume on Wednesday and rightly so.

The players have to go out there with the same notion as the fans and prove a point.

      Perfect timing for us! ;D

The meeting up beforehand should get things started for the match! ;) We just need to drown their fans out so we don't have another Marsielle esque atmosphere on our hands!

And on the pitch, the lads cannot give them an inch! Close them down, stop their flair players. Do it properly and we should be finishing off with the 3 points! :)

With all the backroom politics threatening to wreak havoc, nothing will ease troubled minds like a clinical display from a team that must win or die...(in the competition that is)

Torres must play, he must carry on where he left off on Saturday, making space and terrorizing the Porto defence. He'll come good tomorrow night, I'm sure of it. Porto are a good side but we have momentum that we've manage to maintain depsite a (tragic) international break.

We'll just want it more and we'll play like we do.

      Liverpool 2 (Torres; Gerrard) - 0 Porto

With two games gone since the 8-0 win over Besiktas & two clean sheets in those victories over Fulham & Newcastle you would suspect that things would be rosy at LFC towers this week in preparation for the must win game against Porto in the Champions League.

…but as with all things/people that look to be doing well, ultimately they get handled poorly by the daily rumour rags, that class themselves as Newspapers. Always aim to bring down a good thing, should be on their coat of arms & the rumours of rifts etc are shockingly bad journalism that we have all come to expect but should never buy into.

I know there is to be a big vocal show of support for Rafa at the game on Wednesday & I do hope the team on the night keeps up the momentum that has been building of late. As ever the team on the pitch should be the ones judged & it should be where all the talking is done.

      Prediction

Prediction League Standings 27 Nov 2007

(TABLE SHOWN IN ORIGINAL POST VIA LINK ABOVE)

My form from the last 5 now reads: DLDDD.

Gaining just two points from the last two games, I lie precariously in 10th place with a form of 3 straight draws. I need a 3 point correct scoreline from somewhere & I hope my 1-0 for the game against Porto is justified. Porto are top in their league with a 4 point lead over Benfica & I get the feeling that it will be a much tighter game than against either Newcastle or Fulham.

I would also hope to see a Crouch/Torres partnership from the start of the game, as Crouch knows how to find the net in CL matches & Torres needs more games to sharpen his finishing after coming back from injury. The foil of these two different types of forwards should benefit each other immeasurably.

I'd say, park one of our fellows near to Quasimodo fulltime, stuff and harass their midfield to cut off the supply to Quasimodo, this will cripple their attack, fully agreed Mascha fits the role perfectly and he must play. Besides that, pound their defence to the maximum with our speedy players and Voronin must play to provide maximum harassment. Their defence will crumble if we pressure them enough. Besides that, the crowd must also pump-up the volume to the maximum.

But, i've the hunch that Porto will start the game fast and furious hoping to score early and close shop. So, we must not be slow starters and caught napping, we need to be extremely discipline at the back and keep it tight while we start pounding them right from the start of the game.

Porto beat SETÚBAL 2-0 on Sunday> Quasimodo got one of the goals too. I have a feeling their players will be up for it Wednesday night up to put us out of the competition. We will need to be totally up for it aswell, but I have a nasty feeling that with all this crap with Rafa and the owners going on it could be detremental.

I hope the players and Rafa are keeping their eye on the ball for Wednesday (must be very difficult).

We must win on Wednesday - as if we lose the Yanks and Parry will go for Rafa's neck.

Shame to see that neither SG or JC have had the cojones to say anything at all this week. I personally would have wanted it... then again... I am contradicting myself - because if they did - they wouldn't be concentrating on the game ahead would they... I do spout some bollox eh??

      Don't all agree at once!

I'm confident for a resounding win tomorrow, the players will be wanting to prove a point, on and off the pitch.  I'm sure they must feel the same as us, especially the Spanish guys.  This will be like a Cup final tomorrow night, one of those special Anfield nights  ;)

Don.....SG and JC have probably been told or should I say advised not to say anything about the situation.

The boys and Rafa really need to concentrate on this game tomorrow and try to push any negative thoughts about events from the last week firmly to the back of their minds.

It's going to be a VERY hard game and they need to be totally focused on the task in hand.

Come on Liverpool we have faith in you to do the business tomorrow night.

Concentrating on the game won't be a problem for our lads. Once again the media have blown the situation completely out of context. What I think has happened is Rafa want's confirmation of his speending power to start negotiations for Jan. Gillett  & Hicks just want to see if we qualify for the C. L. knock out stages. If we do that takes care of approx 10 mill. If we don't they will have to restructure thier finances and make the relevant adjustments. Thats understandable due to the huge summs involved. Rafa should have kept his frustrations too himself.  By Dec 16th it will be patently obvious if we are in the C.L. K.O stage, and in with a shout of the Prem or not. Both big money spinners to set your spending against. What's the problem with that ? Don't let the media get to you, just keep supporting, keep the faith. A win tomorrow is vital.

There'd better not be another marseille event again! the fans should be exploding songs and chants all through the match and try too damp out porto's spirits. ill be bitterly disapointed if i hear even one chant from porto's end.

Lest not forget that Porto haven't lost in the league or in Europe this season.

And let's not forget the last time we had a mass-demo day was against Arsenal for the Justice for the 96 and we got beat.

I hope the Rafa thing doesn't overshadow the game and we get the right result on the pitch too.

I'm inclined to agree with you on that one U-Borat...

Tonight's game has added significance. A convincing victory will give the team more momentum and impetus to soldier on in the league but will also send a message to every dissenting corner of Anfield. Rafa's the man for us, without a shodow of a doubt.

The motivation will prove to be decisive, as we steamroller over Quaresma and co...

That Gonzalez Porto midfielder talks too much. Go to Skysports and read what he's got to say about us tonight. I just hope Masch and gang will harass him, stuff him and shut him out. We need to give them a good leason tonight and we need to play like men possessed and pound them from the very minute and don't let them play football.

It's going to be a night to feel very, VERY proud to be a mighty Red.

We will show those Yanks (...and Rick JUDAS Parry) what P-A-S-S-I-O-N is all about.

COME ON - LET'S HAVE YAAAA!!!

No Babel? He's on fire at the mo.

As long as Riise dont play we  should play  a good high tempo passing game.  Can see goals.

God forbi he starts in LM.

                            Reina

      Arbeloa    Hyypia    Carragher    Aurellio

      Benayoun   Masherano Gerrard Kewell

                     Torres    Crouch

What I expect and hope to see. Come on lads, do it for the Gaf. Im pumped for this game, waiting to see the crowd reaction after reading the papers and watching that tw*t of an owner Hicks. Do us proud.

Good team I can see us playing something very similar to that except maybe a fine tweak @ the back with Finnan over Aurellio.  Also is Yossi back from injury now then? if not I suggest we have Babel on the right wing.

Agreed with line-up except Babel instead of Kewell.

I say, give this Quasimodo a baptism that he will never ever forget and let him have the everlasting memories of what it feels like to play in Anfield. Come on, lets give them a mauling tonight that they'll never ever forget and make them cry all the way back to Porto.

Porto played against Békistas for the last game,
it's possible that they played not very good tonight and played at 120 % against Békistas.

I know Marseille because i'm french, and they're irregular, they can loose tonight. :)

Let him have sometime with his boyfriend.

Honestly the lovely footy we  have been playing, when it gets to Riise finished. If ho it was game, set, match before he came on V Newcastle he  added nothing, slowed Eveything down.

I would not cal him a proffessional.

Yes I would start Risse but and Arbeloa would be on the bench personnally I thought when we played them at down the right hand side they looked weak so a good stirke from the left might be a way to unsettle them.

He  scored 1 league goal last season. None this season.

A bit OTT there mate, I agree that Riise is no longer Liverpool standard and feel we should sell in January, but there's nothing to suggest he doesn't try or isn't professional. He just isn't good enough anymore unfortunately.

Just making a few last minute preparations before I leave for the game, this being one of them!

I think we should nail Porto 2-0 if we keep them quiet on the wings.

      See you down the Sandon!

It is important - but if we could only win one game out of this and the weekend's Premiership fixture - I'd still take three points on Sunday.

However - massive massive game and it will really put some excitement in to that Marseille game with all the 'permutations'.

Come on reds lets do this.

Big, big night - we will win. 2-0 or more.

Anfield will crack Porto to pieces. We will use our 12th (crowd) and 13th man (Rafa) to the hilt!
