We must win this. Play the strongest team and those with the desire to win and take one for the team for the outcome. If the kids have more desire to win this, play them. Those without the fire to get going, leave them out. I can’t take losing this one. If we’ve not been good, losing this would destroy my whole season. For the win!

So are you saying the idea is to win? Please clear this up for me.

What Are your favourite memories of the Merseyside Derby, anyone?

My first game at anfield was against Everton. David speedie and jan molby got the goals in a win.

My favourite game i watched on tv was probably the Gary McAllister free kick one.

I only saw the highlights for the famous 4-4 but Kenny left the next day and even now I’m gutted about that.

McAllister at the death. Divock at the Death.

Before my time following but I bet if I'd seen it live this would be one:

Was at that Derby as well with Speedie scoring and celebrating in front of the blueshite.

Was in our end for the Gary Mac free-kick and yeah it would rate quite highly.

The 10 second wonders at Anfield in 94. Watson putting them ahead, Rushie equalising 10 seconds later. Fowler with the winner in the last derby in front of the old standing kop.

      The Fowler sniffing derby

Beating them in three cup finals in the 80s.

Div's last minute winner, Mane's last minute winner. Carroll in the semi in 2012 with the winner 2 mins from full time. Phil Neville scoring an own goal, Gerrard getting sent off and still beating them with Luis Garcia playing with an injury as we were down to 10 men and no subs left.

Finishing above us in 2004/05........only for us to win the European Cup!!

No wonder they f**king hate us.

I think that game where speedie scored two would have been classed as a Hatrick with VaR as he deflected molbys goal in as well...
I kept my match stub for that game as I managed to get John Barnes to sign it weeks later in a club!

One memory I have, and I’m sure I’ll be corrected, is Bernard diomede having his overhead kick shot stopped on the line by someone’s hand. We scored the penalty (I think) but diomede never really kicked on. I often wondered if his goal was scored if he would have done more after....

Wasn't a derby, was a home game against Sunderland that.

Just noticing after midweek matches that this pits 6th vs. 7th in the Premier League table.  :-[

Hopefully we start earning league results.

Once again the European refs and VAR officials showed the premier league refs and VAR officials how a game should be handled last night. Lets hope they were taking notes.
On that note though let's smash these b##tards for the GBH they dished out to us earlier in the season to ruin our shot at the league title defence. COYR

      That’s sobering.
I remember in the 90s we played them and the game wasn’t even selected for live tv because we were both so terrible.

The Gary Mac one always stands out for me. We played roma a couple of weeks before that game and for some reason me and my dad didn’t sit in our season ticket seats for European games but instead got random ones just to mix it up and go different parts of the ground I suppose. So for Roma we turned up in the upper Anny road and we had two belter seats that were central, row 2 or something but when we got there two guys were already sat in our seats. As they were showing us their tickets, another two guys turned up who also had tickets for the same seats! So 6 of us.

The steward comes over and says the club have made a mistake and as the two original guys got there first then they can have the seats. So the steward put me and my dad in another two seats and they were dreadful. My dad kicked off to the club and they offered him a refund but he said no I want tickets to the derby instead. And the club gave him two tickets for Everton away which happened to be the Gary Mac game. Not a bad consolation eh.

      Sorry to ramble on.

Loads of derbies stick out for me but two others in particular was when we beat them 3-1 and Barmby scored. Can just remember the kop singing HES RED HES WHITE HE SCORED AGAINST THE sh*te NICK BARMBY over and over.

The other one was in the season we nearly won the league with brendan. We played them just after Christmas and at the time we were neck and neck in the league both around 4th. I think it was roberto Martinez’s first season and they were playing better football than what they’re usually known for.

For this game, I was sat in the old paddock but right by Anfield road. Their used to be like a little triangle and I was in there. Night game and the atmosphere was booming. All those bourn idiots came in, loud, excited, optimistic.

That’s until the game starts and we completely played them off the pitch. S&S were on fire but i remember coutinho in particular being unplayable that night. Won 4-0 but that flattered them. Could have been 10.

Best part about it was being so close to that lot and seeing how angry and gutted they were. Seeing loads walk out with half an hour left to go because they just can’t bear losing to us. Fantastic.
