      Joe Fagan: 100th birthday

      Today would have been Joe Fagans 100th birthday.

      Joe will be best remembered for leading the club to the treble of league, European cup and league cup in 1984, his first seadon as boss.

      Sadly his second season would be his last as Heysel was too much for him.

      He joined the club in 1958 working on the coaching staff and under Shanks took the reserve team. And remained a vital component under shanks and then Bob before taking charge himself.

      A born and bred scouser. Another humble nan who achieved brilliance.

      Good old Smoking Joe.  Manager when I first went to watch Liverpool and what a bunch of trophies he collected!

      Considering he was literally what we would call a caretaker manager,  what a first season winning the treble.

      Next time ye see them make sure they know what he meant to us. Even all these years later. I was only a kid when he retired but he was my first manager really
