The way things are going and with the ability Leipzig gave to score I think we need to be smart here.

      Hold what we have.

Against every ideal I have Id go 4 5 1 to be a lot more solid and to kill space for them.

Trent and Robbo would be vital to this as would Thiago. Unless Kabak is ok we have to go again with Fab at the back I dont think Rhys will be up the movement of Leipzig

                             Alisson
         Neco    Philips   Fab   Tsimikas

      Trent   Thiago  Milner  Keita  Robbo

                                 Mo

Milner ahead of Gini for leadership and bite. Keita breaking alongbwith Trent and Robbo when we have the ball

Thiago, Milner and Naby must be the slowest set of midfield combinations anywhere, they wouldn’t be able to break out of a paper bag never mind leading any break against Leipzig.

I understand what you are saying about playing defensive but in some ways you may be asking for more trouble that way.
How confident are you of a back line containing Neco and Phillips and inviting the opposition onto us?

I think we might be better off pressing them higher up but in a 4231 or 41212.

Certainly one things for sure the 433 seems dead for us in terms of creating anything.

The only questions here will be whether Fab plays in midfield or defense. Otherwise, I think this lineup will be pretty standard. It's clear Jürgen was resting starters against Fulham for this game.

With a 2-0 lead no need to try score and can just focus on managing the game and let them come out and leave spaces in the back to exploit. Lot of rotation against Fulham so should expect a pretty full team. Salah was one of the few not rested on Sunday and after his sh*t play causing us a goal against i would rest him and get Jota back out.

Think it's important now that Davies and Phillips build up a partnership. Play 2 No. 6,s to protect them in a 4 2 3 1 formation. We don't need to score just ride it out.

Big game this. They are no mugs. We have a good lead to take into the game but our season depends on us getting through this tie now.

I won’t guess a team because i don’t actually know who i would pick right now.

I think we will lose. But still scrape through.

Not sure Kabak is fit enough yet but even so I’d prefer Phillips next to Fabinho, we can’t gamble with a Phillips/Williams, Phillips/Davies, Kabak/Phillips as CB’s, so unfortunately Fabinho has to be one of them,

I’d go....Alisson, Trent, Phillips, Fabinho, Robbo, Gini, Keita, Jones, Jota, Salah Mane

Bench.. Adrian, Neco, Kabak, Milner, Thiago, Shaqiri,Firmino, Tsimikas, Origi, Souness

F**k knows how we will play, just hope we can put our domestic woes behind us for 95mins and finish the job off without too many dramas.

Biggest game of the season given our horrendous capitulation in the league. I'd be very surprised not to see Fab back in defence where he has been excellent all season until the injury. I'd go for:

                                 Alisson

      Trent            Fabinhon           Kabak          Robbo

                               Gini        Thiago

There probably isn't a worse European country for the Leipzig and Liverpool players to be travelling to right now.

Suspect it would have been safer by a magnitude of at least ten for Leipzig to travel to Anfield.

Hungarians on Monday awoke to a new round of strict lockdown measures aimed at slowing a record-breaking wave of COVID-19 hospitalizations and deaths that are among the worst in the world.

A rapid rise in pandemic indicators since early February prompted Hungary's government to announce the new restrictions, including closing most stores for two weeks and kindergartens and primary schools until April 7.

Mind you, in terms of qualification for the next round its probably safer that Liverpool don't play at home.

I'd prefer Keita instead of Wijnaldum but doubt he's going to after his first full 90 minutes back.

Thiago has looked more interested in the CL than the Premier League so he can play as well.

      I'd play

      Alisson

      Trent Rhys/Kabak Nat Fab Robbo

      Thiago Gini

      Jota

      Salah  Mane

ie a 5-2-1-2 formation, very defensive but enough of a counter attacking threat to keep Leipzig on their toes. We have to start protecting our defence more, start getting some clean sheets/draws and then build back from there.

We briefly saw what we’ve been missing when Fabinho came on in the midfield for the last 15 against Fulham, but he has to play in the back four in Europe otherwise it’s a car crash waiting to happen.  A pairing of phillips with either rhys or kabak would be suicide against decent opposition.

I’ve also had it with Gini now, he turns up every week but actually does nothing. Keita plays for me too. I don’t think playing him for a game and then leaving him out for three has ever done him any good. He needs a consistent run of games so his body can get used to the demand. Keep playing him.

      Alisson

      Trent
      Phillips
      Fabinho
      Robbo

      Thiago
      Milner
      Keita

      Mane
      Jota
      Salah

I wasn’t impressed with this lot the first time around and I think one goal will see us through.

Fabinho has to play in midfield...Philips & Kabak should be good enough for these..

      2-1 Redmen

      Is Kabak fit??

The fact these have to score is huge, surely itll give us up chances

Don’t know Brian but we need Fab in the middle of the park alongside Keita on the right & Thiago.. these 3 will give defensive cover for our fullbacks bombing forward..

We need to play 3 CB's, sit deep and hit them on the counter attack, unless our players are unable to handle a change in formation /tactics.

Tough ask to get another 90 out of Jota but no options now really as Shaq/Origi just aren't viable options for a game like this. Think Fab needs to go back into defence for this one as well.

Wonder if they'll play Hwang from the start tomorrow, his pace in behind worries me.

We're stronger up top without Bobby as he offers zero goal threat and loses possession regularly. Just hope Jota is ok to start another game in quick succession.

Actually I think you probably could use Origi in a game like this, to a certain extent, IF you set up as more of a counter attacking team. I'd actually be tempted to start Origi and then if we somehow find ourselves needing to chase a goal we can bring on Jota or Mane.

Is that guy Ben Davies fit?  I thought I saw videos of him in training, but I can't remember if he's ever been in a match day squad.  If he is fit, he must be really bad to find himself behind Kabak, Rhys, Nat, etc.

The CL is all we have to play for now.  Hopefully Klopp can find a way to make us a little more defensively resilient while maintaining a threat on the counter.  If we can find the right balance of that, we could actually still win this thing.  It's just a matter of grinding out results and getting a little bit of luck in the right moments.

Why oh why do you want Fabinho at CB when that has been part of the problem for so long now? Playing players out of position. He’s a midfield beast, let him do his job ffs...

A sh*t load has happened between the first leg and tomoz, not getting away from the fact that domestically we’ve been absolute Pants, with lots of sh*t in them too, but tomorrow is a different target, a different comp and hopefully a different mentality,
First leg from what I remember was a lot of worrying that we would get turned over, as it turned out however,Leipzig had about a good 35 mins throughout the  95+ but didn’t really cause too many dramas, well nothing we couldn’t handle,

Alisson, Trent, Kabak, Henderson, Robbo, Gini, Jones, Thiago, Mo, Bobby Mane took to the field as starters, we won 2-0 ,

We have all of those players available again with the exception of Hendo & Bobby, but do have Fabinho, Keita & Jota, kind of changes the dynamic me thinks,

We have to play Fabinho at CB, Phillips next to him with Trent & Robbo either side, Gini as DM, Jones & Naby in midfield, and Mo Jota & Mane up top, two nil is a decent start, but not insurmountable, one goal against and their backs are up and our chins go down, I know it’s hard to imagine us actually scoring but with Jota & Naby back I think we pose more of a threat than the first leg,

There’s more pressure on them because they HAVE to score and that could play right into our hands when they push forward, Phillips adds a bit of height for the set pieces and just has more about him than Kabak has, IF we can score early doors it’s game over so soon as we can do that the better.

                                                           Alisson

                                                  Jones.            Keita

Alisson, TAA, Fabinho, Kabak, Robbo, Thiago, Gini, Jones, Salah, Jota, Mane.... I think this is what Jürgen is going to go with.

Hopefully we just drop our defensive line back so they wont exploit our lack of pace.

Couldn't care less if we lose 1-0 again aslong as we progress. A goal and a better performance would help restore belief though.

COYR, need to win this for Jürgen more than anything

I agree that it would be an incredible achievement but if we prioritise the CL now, resting players in the league games etc plus find some long overdue form then why not.

If for example we can get a solid win tomorrow then that should build confidence in the CL campaign.

I’m worried if we put all our eggs in one basket, then don’t win number 7...........
While it’s still mathematically possible to get fourth place, we’ve gotta go for it. Other teams regularly go into meltdown at the run in. There’s always hope ‘

The key is evident there. One - two touch football. Moving the ball quickly unsettles the opposition, as long as your intentions are positive, and not passing backwards and sideways.

Fab at the back all day for me, was our player of the season before the injury IMHO. Would love him in midfield but he's our best available CB so he has to play there. I'd love to play Gini, Thiago and Milner in midfield. When form is an issue you need energy, hustle, hard-work and leadership, Milner brings all of these. We look a bit lightweight with Thiago AND Jones in the middle and we're 2 nil up (not down).

Really interested to see if Jota gets the nod ahead of Bobby, i would play him but we know Klopp loves Bobby so who knows which way he goes.

I hope we go through as much for Klopp as anything else, can't bear to hear any of the twitter tw*t talk about him going or being under pressure. He deserves better and most Reds know that.

Fancy us to win 2-1 tonight. How we fare in the league at the weekend might be another matter entirely though! Tough season but we all need to stick together.

      Yea.

Philips & Kabak with Fab sitting in front of them, that will do me, let Gini & Thiago go there thing.

Maybe trent and robbo wont be bombing on as much, we just need to keep it calm, they will come onto us, so we will get chances on the break.

Have a feeling we are going to boss this game tonight. We still have the best manager in the world, the best fullbacks in the world and a couple of the best forwards in the world. If that's not enough to win....don't know what to tell you.

Its a bit of a puzzle how we've lost so many recent games then ;-)

In all seriousness we do still have a very good team, we just need to adjust tactics and formations a bit, plus inject some confidence and belief back into the players. If Klopp can do that then fantastic, I'd be so happy.

Bit of a puzzle how we went undefeated at Anfield for 68 games, you never mention this in your narrative against Klopp..

Yeah that was quite an incredible achievement, and then to go from that invincibility to 6 straight losses, its really weird and No its not all down to CB's, but I can't be bothered to get into all that again.

I'm trying to be positive about the game tonight, but some people seem intent on provoking an argument in a wummish manner ;-)

Don’t think for one minute that this will be easy, even though we’re up 2-0, they are a very good team and they’ll be acutely aware of our form of late. I think we have to turn things around sooner or later, tonight would be a good place to start, 2-1 to us. Where do we stand on away goals, is it as if the 2 games had been played as they should have, so we have 2 away goals!

Wonder how Jota is feeling. Could Jones or Shaq play a false 9?

      Yea.

Philips & Kabak with Fab sitting in front of them, that will do me, let Gini & Thiago go there thing.

Maybe trent and robbo wont be bombing on as much, we just need to keep it calm, they will come onto us, so we will get chances on the break.

This sounds like a plan. They have to come out fighting being 2 down, so as long as we don't give them space to run into behind, we should be able to keep control and pick them off again.

Has to be Jota for me, so I hope he's feeling good.

I don't have much faith in Shaq other than an occasional whipped in cross.

Jota behind Mane and Salah is my guess. Milner doesn't appear to be involved, at least he wasn't in training yesterday. Fab Gini and Curtis in midfield I guess and we'll be set up to counterattack as the "home" side

Love ya no matter what, but could do with a win just now lads.

Don’t need to play a false line, not as if that formation has done much for us recently.

Thiago will play without a doubt and if Fab plays in midfield which I have my doubts it will be Jones who makes way

Totally spaced it on Thiago. Of course he will play.
