Thatās all well and good but if you look back youāll find that almost all new managers at big clubs make quite a few transfers in their first window at a new club.
I think unfortunately for Hughes and co theyāve inherited a bit of a mess with three key players approaching the end of their contracts so thatās taken priority. Hopefully it will all get sorted soon so we can make the transfers we desperately need to kick on from last seasons near miss.
Why is it a bit of a mess, and itās not a priority sorting out contracts from Arneās perspective, like you said those contracts will be sorted one way or another, while the contracts are still active, there is plenty of time for negotiations,
Arneās priority is to get the squad he inherited up to speed in readiness for the new campaign, additions will come forthwith once Arne has recognised where he feels will need strengthening, as for other managers at other clubs that would depend on the situation a manager faced, and yes possibly they would sign new players, but thatās not the case with us,
We already have a squad capable of hitting the ground running, albeit minus the three who left last season, one being a goalkeeper of which we have ample cover already in situ, the other two who were well past their respective sell by dates, and we have a potential replacement in Sepp for Matip, Thiago and his quality will of course be more difficult to replace, but we faired reasonably well for more or less the whole campaign without him anyway,
Getting back to players contracts in their final year, I donāt think for a second that those players will not sign new deals, so for me itās not much of a issue as some seem to think, I have no doubt whatsoever that those looking after these kind of things are aware of the situation and will act accordingly, keeping thingās in house and not for the prying eyes of the back stabbing pot stirring fuckwits of the media !!
