Fukin Gutted for the man.

Sad news indeed. We'll miss his long mazy runs up to the opposition box, and calmness on the ball in general....

Gutted for Joel. Didn't deserve to have his career here end like that. If there were any thoughts about a new deal they will be over now. Always a great attitude with Joel and a character to boot. Would love to see us win something this season and him to be at least celebrating on the pitch with the boys.

The emergence of Quansah is good for us. Gomez will get more chances now. Be great if konate could sort himself out and back up matches and go again. Just goes to show how quickly these things can happen.

ACL. That sucks. May be it for him period. At his age after an injury like that could be he calls it quits.

Gutted. If that is to be the end what a fantastic player he's been for us.

I wonder if the club would give him a small contract extension, so he can finish his career off properly next season ?

Sad news about Joel. Hopefully he recovers and can get back playing next season, even if it's not for us. Excellent player for us, will be missed.

Not for a blown out ACL 

As a CB he can come back 100% because at this position you do not need agility as much as a forward or offensive midfielder. I hope we keep him, market for him will be grim anyway bc of his age and now injury history.

Give him time. I would have him back for the pre-season and see if he is up to standard.

Win him a medal!

He has been a brilliant player and has played a crucial role in winning medals.   I do think with his injury record and that of his fellow CB's in particular Konate and an aging VVD and Gomez's history, we should look to bring a new face next summer. 

He deserves a chance to see if he can play any sort of role at the back, even on a temporary basis. Such a fine player does not deserve to be thrown on the scrapheap altogether.

I love this club

Love Joel Matip. One of the most underrated players of the past 10 years.

Sometimes you have to be ruthless, but Matip has been good this season and I imagine he’d be fine being a back up next year. I wouldn’t be against giving him a contract but I also wouldn’t want to see him come back a shell of his former self and then get stick.

Best case scenario for me is he heals up and plays a productive part next season when called upon.

wow, injury web site saying sept. 24 for Matip return.

I can defo see us giving him a 6 month extension minimum, be horrible if his contract runs out and he still has a few months of re-hab to do with no club.
